Ok Guys,
Here is the tentative 2013 Texas Centerboard Circuit schedule. Yes, there is a heck of a gap from July 4th till September. It might be a good time to organize a fun sail and play day or weekend down on the coast or elsewhere during that time period. DK had suggested that we do an event for ourselves. Again let me know your thoughts please!

AYC's Opening Day regatta. March 3rd
B2F SHSC March ?
Arlington Yacht Club May ?
Spring Dinghyfest RCYC May ?
Summer Solstice Seabrook June (Solstice weekend)
Long Branch distance race, LCYC July 4th
Centerboard regatta, AYC Sept 7th & 8th
Waiting for the Great Pumpkin. Clear lake Oct. (1st weekend)
Fall Dinghyfest, RCYC Oct (third weekend).
Wurstfest, LCYC, Nov. (1st weekend)

I'll fill in dates and such here as soon as I can confirm them.
Thanks,
FM

2013 Schedule.

The "Waiting for the Great Pumpkin" Regatta was originally planned for Oct 5th however RCYC has Fall Dinghy Fest scheduled for Oct 12th.

We don't like the idea of putting it the week before Fall Dinghy Fest so we are discussing moving WFTGP Regatta on Sept 28th?

any comments?

Howdy 007,
I feel pretty good about the date (insider knowledge from Harpoonette). We could possibly lobby for around the "cans". I'd suspicions are it will be one of the AYC distance courses. Thats back and forth between the channel markers usually several miles between the marks. Depending on the course designation assigned will determine the distance sailed. We can also lobby for a that too ( longer course).

That sounds like a good possibility Kent. I haven't pinned down what date Stillhouse is looking for regarding the HOT regatta (if it is going to happen).

Adding weight might make him faster! He already likes it windy, how about a remote controlled halyard release device, or sea anchor deployment cassette, that I'd like!

If we could install a portable camera to take in his expression and agree teh halyard release may not be used until he is within sight but not quite back to his beer cooler and fishing pole...I MIGHT get involved...maybe for a great deal on a full speed MC Scow

He's ignoring us isn't he? I bet he is confident we lack the technology and the sneakiness to accomplish our little task.

Phooey darn!!! I hate it when he's right!!!.

Maybe I will hide a valentine in the boat for his sweetie and tell him to make sure she looks at the repair...

"Dear Sweetie. Happy valentines day. I am celebrating my love for you by giving free beer to everybody at the next regatta."

Of course he would ahve to follow through...

but then again, he is always a source of a free beer anyway.

++++++++++++++++
maybe we should go back to picking on guys with Wetas??

I can't wait until the sailing season begins.... It should be loads of fun watch Ortega wrestle with that fancy new boat of his with that big ole kite. More than once last year he was gracious enough to capsize on the final push to the finish line so someone else could finish ahead of him. I expect he will be even more generous this year!

I am sailing every chance I get, in hopes of showin y'all some love, or AC transom! Can't wait, have my cabin reserved at AYC for opening day, lets sail!

They are always competitive, hard to beat good portsmouth rating, 'specially when sailed well. But they are so nice, is all good, maybe if I can make them both have a few beers before the race, maybe then.

Oh 29er all the way, buy a regular one cheap and learn, but try it first, my wifey wouldn't even sail with me on it, very tippy, NO relaxing beer drinkin etc. And XX even worse! Having said that, Brent loves his and so does his wife! I think it would be very competitive in our fleet.

Contact Zar over at SSC and see if he will let you try out his 470.
There is a new guy who signed up for CLSC that sails a 29er... you might see if he will give you a demo.
Or you could just face your destiny and get a Raider II. :)

Think you will be seriously unimpressed with 470, but Zar sails his very well.
And Kent must be getting royalties for all his raider sales!
See y'all soon, am gone to mardi gras, will share pix,(no not those kind)

Check out a 505. Epic boat, probably a used on laying around that could be had at a reasonable price. Adjustable everything and super quick.

My wife and I do love our 29erXX. It is her go to boat. I couldn't get rid of it if I wanted to. We put the big rig on last summer thinking we'd switch back down to the standard rig when the wind picked up in the fall. Hasn't happened. We're comfortable now in 15ish and hope to push that up to the 20 range. We weigh about 290 combined and have never had a more fun two up boat. Teamwork is essential to keep her mast out of the water. Planing upwind with two on the wire is a blast and going downhill with the masthead chute up feels like flying. There is no relaxing though, even between races full battens mean the sail is always up to something. Did I mention I'm fifty and she is... well I won't say. Being in good condition is very important. The boat demands a workout in typical lake winds.

If you want good performance with slightly less athleticism required for two up look to a Laser 2 or a 505. If it's one up the IC is the only option. ;-) My wife actually asked the other day if I thought she would enjoy a canoe. Life is good...

Still hoping to make the trip and sail with you all at one regatta.

Take care,

Brent

Hey Brent. You guys made it look easy !!

At 280 lbs combined, I'm a bit hesitant to sail a 505. We're right in the middle of the 29er and 470. An RS 200 would work also, but currently no used ones in the US. Thanks for the replies guys.

Pam still isn't receptive to another boat. If you guys could point and laugh when passing us downwind, it could change her mind.

I think the 505 or 470 would be great! I do like my relaxing time while sailing and I'm sure Pam does too so the 29er just seems a bit crazy. The downside to the others is the sym kite. I hate gybing poles. I can't think of comfy 2 person a-kite boat right now but that's what I'd lean towards.

Pam still isn't receptive to another boat. If you guys could point and laugh when passing us downwind, it could change her mind.

I think she will get tired of seeing my transom this year and tell you to get a new boat.... you did too well in 2012.. blow a few races and you'll get a new boat, she doesn't like coming in last!

Hey Art,

I've been looking at a Johnson 18 and one of the Conroe guys (Joe) has one and loves it. There's one for sale in Denver right now for $3500 if you're interested. Fun, two person A kite boat and pretty fast.

To the TCC: Can I sail a Flying Scot with the fleet? I found a boat I couldn't refuse and it's in great shape. I know it's not the fastest thing on the water but it fills a couple of voids. Two to three people, room for a cooler and fairly fast down wind in a breeze. What say you?

Mr. David Luckenbach (RIP) reaked havoc in the TCC with his Scot.

How many people are interested in lake Conroe for a TCC stop? We have a nice club, although small, with great members who love cold beer. It's not unusual for the club to fire up the grill and serve brats, tater salad and the coldest Shiner you've ever had without charging a cent. If it's early enough in the year, the idiot factor (150 MPH douche bags) is pretty low and good sailing with a S-SW breeze. Let me know and I'll see if we can get it set up.

I think CYC would be great for a TCC stop. There is plenty of space for out of towners to camp and the locals are some of the friendliest around.

Is there any way for me to reach out to the TCC membership and get a head count for interest in the WFW Regatta on Lake Conroe? Maybe an email list or something similar would work. I'm working on this regatta and need three dates that would work with the existing schedule to pick from.

Look on the TCC website for the 2013 schedule... there are openings in it.

As for participation, we have had 4 and 3 out of town TCCers at each of the last two WFTGP regattas. I think Ortega was planning on coming to Houston in 2012 before he hurt himself.

I would suspect you would get about the same plus 2-3 from Houston (Art-V15, myself- Raider 16, and Rob -Raider II, and I might be able to drag Dennis-Raider II and Chris-Force 5 along depending on the weekend.)

I'll be there to set up and sail Saturday as a season warmup for Sunday's racing.

I sailed with DaveK on his boat yesterday and was a fair bit 'off my game', although it could have been from Dave's "retooling" of his Weta. Couldn't get the spinnaker furled right for some reason!

Conroe Yacht Club has their Spring Regatta Scheduled for the 13th. http://www.conroeyc....ebpage2_005.htm

I emailed the PRO from last year earlier today to check on having a Portsmouth fleet and give them the heads up that TCC might be headed their way. As soon as we get confirmation that the 13th is a go I will update the TCC website.

Winter storage is my garage with a bunch of stuff(Christmas decorations waiting to go to the attic, big boat cushions, household items, etc.) piled on top of the boat... the winter for me is big boat sailing.

I'll try to get the new centerboard fitted and the new rudder ready by Saturday.

I thought I'd throw this out there. We are THINKING about moving to San Antonio. I know very little about San Antonio, but I'm wondering, while reading this thread... are there ANY sailing opportunities there? Or am I trailering up to Austin to go racing? How far is Austin from San Antonio anyway? Any who, we're just thinking about it, which got me curious as to the whole TCC circuit, which seems like a whole lot of fun! The boat I'd be bringing with me would be a Finn.

Hi VBeach,
I also live fairly close to San Antonio. New Braunfels area. The closest lake from San Antonio for decent sailing is Canyon Lake. There is Medina Lake on the west side. But I have never heard about anyone sailing there. LCYC is the closest yacht club. They don't have big dinghy fleet. It is mostly Flying Scots and Sunfish.

Your Finn would fit right in with us. We're basically a collection of misfit dinghy's (some are pretty fast) that don't have a fleet. Check out our website (thanks webmaster Kent) and you'll see our schedule for this year. Dues are squat, twenty bucks annually. It provides enough to keep the website running and end of season trophies. We get together and race at different venues and have a few beers and laugh afterwords. I could go on for a good bit, but I won't. If ya'd like to talk about it shoot me a PM with your number.

So if I'm hearing your correctly, sailing, while moving to San Antonio, isn't out of the question, as long as I don't mind driving from lake to lake. Which is fine.... I've been to the TCC website, and it does sound like a great time! Distance wise, from venue to venue, what are we looking at, 200 miles between sites?
