was responsible for increased tornado damage in the south? Who is the ringleader of the G.W. deniers?

The National Weather Service says the devastating twister, one of several created by a storm system that swept through nation's midsection the past 36 hours, reached winds up to 200 mph.

Gentlemen, rest your sphincters.  We should hold our attack on Obama until he predictably labels this disaster something that we can later tear apart.  If he calls it an act of God, we will attack him for being anti-God.  If he says shit happens, we will attack him for being anti-shit.  Rest assured, we will parse is every word and when that isn't sufficient to meet our needs, we will fabricate claims against him.  When people die, we win.

The good news is that Oral Roberts University is now organizing prayer meetings in response to the tornados. But just incase they can't get through to Jesus (like if he is pissed at Oklahoma cause of the queers) then they have some storm cellars they're recommending: https://www.facebook...-05-20-16-35-27

It's just weird. I've lived through a few decades of tornadoes and I've never seen anything like the ones that hit Alabama and Oklahoma over the last few years ... sure, thinish funnels that cause a lot of localized damage, but these are mile-wide monsters, the atmosphere just can't form these things without needing to dump an ungodly amount of energy.

I've never been much of a global warming guy, it seems to be that the atmoshere must have some kind of stable potential or we would see far more wild swings than geologic history has recorded. But if the atmosphere does seek relative stability, then in the short term we have something approximating a Laplacian, with no local minima, and local maxima ... just the atmsophere shedding extra energy in tornadoes and hurricanes.

I'm willing to wager that these improbable clusterings of violent weather are in fact due to atmospheric, and lithospheric warming.

You've got to have warm air meet cold air for these storms to form, so maybe if things warm up enough?

Tornado clearly targets conservatives': Daily Show creator faces backlash over insensitive tweet

She thought she was making a topical political joke, but a co-creator of ‘The Daily Show’ managed to enrage many of her followers after tweeting joke about the Oklahoma tornado’s political motivations.

‘This tornado is in Oklahoma so clearly it has been ordered to only target conservatives,’ wrote comedian Lizz Winstead, in a tweet, around 3:30 Monday afternoon.

The tweet was an apparent attempt at using the occasion of the May 20 twister to comment on the scandal currently plaguing the IRS and Obama administration.

article-0-19E771E7000005DC-874_634x576.j

Winstead, co-creator and former head writer for ‘The Daily Show,’ promptly received a stream of angry responses to her tweet.

I am claiming nothing but the right to tell you to go fuck yourself along with anyone else who wants to politicize an ongoing tragedy.  And take your big pink hat and stuff it where the sun don't shine.

Clear enough?  This doesn't even address how stupid the thread is to begin with, who is going to jail?  Seriously?  Perhaps if you removed your socks you wouldn't post such stupid shit.  I am somebody who thinks our actions are and will affect our climate but dipwads like you do nothing but polarize people.

I don't have much time for the "self righteous" either Jack. What does "Political Anarchy" mean to the Bus Driver. Maybe the he needs to move his activities to the "Political Politeness" board.

Why don't the two of you just go fuck yourselves.   Ever hear of too soon?  This is still part of SA and there are lots of sailors in the affected area.  They may well be still pulling bodies out of the rubble.

Pathetic.

Cheap trick to lay siege the moral high ground. You can try to claim it but you don't deserve it.

I am somebody who thinks our actions are and will affect our climate but dipwads like you do nothing but polarize people.

some people will never get it.

Some day when it is obvious that we have all been harmed by global warming and that many lied about the truth or worked to hide and to confuse others about the truth of global warming, it will be obvious that some will deserve to go to jail, but they will not. Just like the great corporate liars of the past who for greed told us that cigarettes are safe, that the lead in gasoline posed no threat, and that bank deregulation was a good idea. Go ahead, change the subject.

Dysfunctional analysis.

You're comparing the death toll from the tornado, not the energy of the tornado. The death toll for a tornado that hit an urban center that long ago was likely high for the same reason the death toll of fires were high back then ... because the building codes and emergency response were practically non-existent by today's standards, and almost 100% of the population effected bore full brunt.

The number of deaths from these tornados in the last few years with modern warming systems and a good number of homes with proper envelope design suggest a weather event an order of magnitude higher in energy than the one you mention.

My home (and wife and children) survived the Tornado two years ago in Tuscaloosa, that twister actually hopped over newer buildings with intact envelopes and integral frame-foundation couplings, leaving them and the occupants undamaged.

The death rate for automobile accidents has fallen considerably over the last fifty years. By your logic that therefore suggests that cars are now no longer capable of higher speeds.

The evidence does not suggest that there has been an increase in tornado activity or that global warming would have anything do with it.

Funny thing.. The tornado season has been rather slow, compared to normal years. Due to the COOLING trend . But there are those that think that normal occurrences have to be man made.. And blame everybody for it. Also it's kind of strange that the heating trend started slowing own quite a few years ago. Just like the last cycle a few hundred years ago , called the mini ice age.. Or the one that happened about 12,000 years ago. That was found in Antartica ice coring. But guess we can't talk about those HUH? Maybe those might be a little hard to be able to blame anybody. And if this global warming was true.. Why did Fat Al Gore buy a multimillion dollar house on the beach in Southern California ? That according to the global warming crowd will be under water. Or about all of the billions that Marice Strong has made and still making off this scam , and cap and trade. But guess we can't talk about that either. Ever heard of Sheeple? They are people that act like sheep, following some guy that says he is in charge, and Leeds them to slaughter.
This was a terrible thing that happened in Oklahoma , but is a common occurrence. In the Midwest. The town that got hit, a few years ago was hit it on the north end of town and ruined that part. This time it was the south end. It happens just like earthquakes happen. Or are those man made also?

The effective advancement in modern satellite forecasting and warnings through modern communications technology has saved thousands of lives from terrible storms.   However, you can feel free to ignore obvious facts if it fits your version of reality and the physical world...

I'd also add that the Federal budget has been hacked to pieces, and much of that forecasting equipment, so valuable to human life and commerce, has reached the end of its planned lifetime of service.  There is no plan to replace the aging equipment.

was responsible for increased tornado damage in the south? Who is the ringleader of the G.W. deniers?

The National Weather Service says the devastating twister, one of several created by a storm system that swept through nation's midsection the past 36 hours, reached winds up to 200 mph.

I suggested an educated hunch, that's all. Neither the side to connect extreme weather to climate change nor disavow it has measured proof, that's the nature of extreme weather, it's already something of an outlier condition.

I agree that priority here is on the nightmare of having a natural disaster kill so many people, so many of those people children. It's terrifying to me especially because my own children experienced an EF5 tornado while with their classmates and at home.

Newton invented gravity and Einstein invented physics.  Archimedes invented floating boats.  Lots to truth to those statements too.  Relatively speaking.

Should the inventor of the AR15 be held criminally liable for Newtown?

No.  I think the theory of AR15's causing Newtown should be attributed to Barbara Boxer.

Nice segue from Newton to Newtown, BTW.  ;)

Unlike the inventor of the AR15, Al Gore is in fact directly responsible for Oklahoma deaths (if you believe they are the result of global warming).  His lifestyle pollutes more than 99.9999% of the worlds population.  Giving Al Gore a pass because he talks about the problem is like giving the newtown shooter a pass because he taught the kids about gun safety before shooting them.

With logic like that you'll be eating shit for breakfast and calling it nutritious.

Even though the h8rs of all things 'gummit' will (have) found something to bitch about, you gotta marvel at the work done by NWS the other day.  Below, their tornado warning issued fully 36 minutes before that twister ripped through Moore, OK.  Note the especially strong language they used to describe the situation.  The crew at the Norman, OK weather service forecast office deserve some major props for nailing the situation and getting the word out in plenty of time to act.

JFC.  A tragedy occurs in Oklahoma and some of you can't wait to exploit the suffering of those affected by using them as pawns in your stupid AGW chess game.

How fucking cold-hearted must one be to make political hay out of suffering?

Sometimes, this place sickens me.

I'm with you BD.

I want to know who goes to jail when "Climate Change" is demonstrated to be naturally occurring?

It sure doesn't look like you're with him.

Looks like you're making political hay to me, just like the asshat that started this thread.

Sickening.

Comprehension issues?

You said you agreed with BD in his criticism of the fuckstain that started this thread and his elk.  You agreed that those who don't wait until the dead kids are pulled out of the rubble to start grinding their political axes are cold-hearted fucks.

Then in your very next sentence you started on politics, because apparently you thought he was only talking about politics that you don't agree with.

I understand you just fine.

No, apparently you don't. As a sarcastic retort I asked who should be held accountable if gw turns out not to be man made.

I know sarcasm doesn't come through well on forums, but to suggest I am making political hay, that is just absurd.

Heard an interview with the city manager this morning. What an ASSHAT!

4 tornados in the last 14 years have hit this town, 2 of them EF5s.

The Mayor is calling for a change to the building code to require shelters in all new buildings.

City manager says something to the effect of "we have lots of builders here, and were pretty independent, so we don't think we need more regulations"  1 major tornado every 4 years or so - and no building code to deal with the risk?  Hell, in California, we only have a big quake in any single area every 100 years or so, no need to build for that.  The reporter editorialized afterwards that he thought that after 7 3rd graders died in their classroom, the community might put a shelter in the new school.

That's the guy - and the mentality - that should go to jail.

Edit: This is the same type of guy who recommends building in flood plains, etc, and just waits for the Feds to bail them out.

I suspect, but do not know, that there are provisions in the codes to protect against tornadoes. Do not pretend that anything short of a cave cut in the rock underground is adequate. The most recent storm scrubbed away the dirt in areas of it's path this time.

Per the city manager - no requirements for shelters.

Couple days ago they interviewed the folks in Joplin building the new hospital - they expect it to be able to take a direct hit from massive tornado.  They're testing the glass by shooting 2x4s at it at 100 mph - which can happen in one of the big ones.  The exorbitant cost for this? 3% of the build cost.  Approx $12m for that hospital.

One more comment on this guy - he claims they're independent - but I would assume he's doing his job with FEMA to figure out how to deal with 13000 destroyed homes...
