Are you retarded? Why the double post? While I post from a centrist perspective olsonist is an eloquent speaker for the left.

Btw sock puppets are by definition retarded.

BG, you are a great example of a smart guy who really could add something to the conversation and you do often. If only you would ease up on the trolling. One example is you have been right as rain in the financial threads but nobody takes you seriously because of the incessant trolling

Meh, I'd take someone seriously if I knew they had a brain.  Don't know who this guy is or what his agenda is, nor do we know if he knows how to think, reason or argue since he's not entered into any conversations I've noted.

This isn't American Idol, we don't need some random git off the street to come and start rating people.

It's just his/her personal preference. I find that Joe and you and Olson usually add to the conversation in a useful way whether I agree with you or not.

Chuck mainly contributes to environmental threads and there is no question that he knows his beans. I enjoy Jack as well, we've spoken engineering on the phone. I don't remember much about Biam, so I don't have an opinion on him, but I don't remember him being offensive. Even Gaston has his place.

I think that the idea behind this thread may be ill-formed. This thread itself may accomplish what the "lower bar" guys could not.

That goes without saying.

If I had to make an off the hip guess I'd guess it's from our one of our top puppeteers, No'6/JT/Et Al.  Two Three reasons - 1) he didn't mention himself in either list and 2) JT always goes on about my self righteousness 3) the name is in keeping with his others.

Just my guess, I could be wrong.  No Admin tools were used in the diagnosing of this sockpuppet.

This list is bullshit. I'm quite certain that none of our posts in PA are worth reading. Seriously!

None of us are here because we really think we're going to change the world by ranting about politics on a sailing forum (except maybe Happy Jack and Chuck D, those two just aren't right in the head). We're here because we're bored and it's not really socially acceptable to throw rocks at each other.

There are plenty of equally fulfilling substitutes that offer the same intellectual value:
-poking at a dead raccoon with a stick
-microwaving a marshmallow peep
-watching the home shopping network with the sound turned off and French subtitles turned on
-calculating the exact potential energy of a waffle tied to a balloon
-etc.

We're only here because its this or go back to work. And because I'm sad to have missed the worthless list, you're all a bunch of cunts!

See, here's the problem with Pusstralia-----they throw out the C word like they grow on trees....but they have some of the strictest, lamest and most Draconian gun laws on the planet. So it's quite obvious to this some-times-a-great-notion poster, that the Ozzies need to cuss less, and shoot more.

Why would you want to change Australia?  Seemed like a nice place when I was there last year.

And no, you don't get moved up because you said C word and not the full word.  CUNT!  If you don't use CUNT, you can't be a member of the "contributes"  list.

Chesapeake could reasonably be on there, though he does seem to get on the piss occasionally.

JBSF's biggest contribution is new threads about guns, which does not in any way improve the forum.

Ah... pen name = pseudonym = sock puppet

No Admin tools were used in the diagnosing of this sockpuppet.

you never had a sock?

The short answer?  No, I have never, ever created a login name for my own personal use to engage in sock puppetry.

--------------

The long answer, before you and Grumpy start whining and JT jumps in and starts telling more lies about me, is as follows:

As you and your other douche-clown friends that worked so hard to out me know, I've been an admin on SA for years - since before the "new" site when active, as I was involved in testing that software.  In that context, to protect my identity and make my job easier, I addressed certain administrative topics with the admin account Underdawg.

Some rather immature and insecure people think answering things in FAQ Anarchy and dealing with troublesome posters in PM's with an Admin ID is somehow equivalent to a sock puppet.  The reasons for the Underdawg ID was always quite simple:  It's a LOT more effective to have an Admin account deal with pests that a "regular" user name, and it also prevented backlash against my personal account (thread stalking and worse, since my real ID is quite visible) by disgruntled trolls.  Some people can not understand this concept.

If you view that as the same as creating new user names in order to wreak havoc, support your own positions, or to try and bury your own turds in the litter box well, I can't help you with that.

P.S. - Thanks for making my volunteer job more difficult!

Nah, more like expressing my opinion on this guys opinion.  I'm hardly here any more - I'm likely to disappear again soon as the watermaker is fixed and we're headed out of the marina and off to St. Vincent in the Grenadines in a few days.  I have no idea what net access will be like there; I suspect not good and I won't be tied to a dock and bored.

So relative newcomers like LenP and others have no real idea how much I've been around in the past versus now.

BTW from a historical perspective, it looks like Grumpy's going to be passing my total post count in a month or three.

What am I, chopped liver?  I didn't even make the dislike list.  Anyways, obviously a Rightie as some of the lefties on the no list are very well informed.

Agreed on Moe and CL, if they can sail as well as they write they should kick some serious butt.

You're always on my list, because I like and respect you, and you have nice friends. I hope Chris and Betsy are well.

Moe and I disagree on most things political, as do you and I, but we've always recognized that that doesn't make the other a bad person, we simply have differing opinions, held in good faith and defended with vigor. Nothing is more boring than conversations with people who only agree. I enjoy a good back and forth, and will often modify my views based on a convincing argument.

What has largely driven me from this place are the thoughtless flamethrowers, epitomized for me by Craigiri, who ascribed motives to me which were, simply put, disgusting lies.

I look forward to several days of relentless back and forth with Moe but, realistically, no one "kicks butt" in a Hinckley.

I'm a fan of Point Break's posts, I love RD's humor, and several others. But I truly miss JDirge. He was respectful, well informed and clear of thought. A truly admirable liberal.

Worth reading is a barely a compliment yet overstates the value of the entire Political Anarchy section of these forums.
PA is a valueless time sucking morass composed by the most pathetic of the SA members.

With that caveat to my comments clearly established, I read the PA section only when I have found nothing anywhere else on the forums but refuse to go back to bring productive or sleeping.
To that end I either browse this boring section to induce the needed sleep.
Or
I read these forums seeking out clever retorts to the unsupported claims of fools, have myself a giggle, and sometimes even try my own hand at being an offensive ass.

Benwynn consistently produces relatively cutting sarcasm . He ought to be on both lists

MoeAlfa...Probably my all time favorite...where did he go?
As a practitioner of medicine, he probably got tired of doing a full scrub after getting near this rather diseased environment. While there are a good few more as well, I'd offer up Moe as a pretty decent and reasonable-sounding chap.

AGITC is similarly among those who can offer a point of view that is polite and respectful, even under fire. Some of us may try, and often fail (self incl.) but these guys manage to respect their fellow men & women as valuable team members, whatever corner they sit in.

BG? Troll extraordinaire, though in his heart I'm sure he means well. I do wish he'd lay off the "retarded" name-calling; it's becoming as unacceptable as "nigger" has very rightly become. Plenty of other pejoratives exist other than "retarded" which don't disparage others not involved in the conversation. The cognitively-disadvantaged did not ask to be born that way. This term needs to be erased from the lexicon.

Mark K? Other that the log-sized chip on his shoulder, probably an OK person.

Spatial Ed? Shuts down conversations not with logic & facts, but with useless red herrings and with quintessential disingenuousness, the counter to which is best offered in the form of ignoring lest he be led to further masturbation as he watches others' reactions to him. Pity, though, as I normally have all kinds of respect for pilots. I bet that, in person, he's one hell of a good guy. Very possibly the same for Jocal though a lot gets hidden by the keyboard. I can respect his direction even if we don't see eye to eye on his methods.

Speaking of pilots, Kent Island Sailor seems pretty much on the level. And Sol - who could not appreciate a writer who doesn't mind calling people out on stuff that misrepresents an informed view (whether he supports the states view or not)? Someone around here needs to have a brain.

Tom Ray - gotta love the writing style: I could see sitting around his pond, cleaning .22's and bullshitting the afternoon away.

Frenchie - has a way of dealing straight up, seems highly honorable. Same for McKabe, JSBF, & others In posession of well-calibrated Bullshitometers & with whom I may or may not agree on every single solitary point, though we still have plenty in common. That's how our country, even our planet, ought to get along.

Mike Wolf - our own, personal Sheldon (without the OCD necessarily)... lots of well-rounded experiences for a guy (i take for being) under 45-ish. May go off the deep end occasionally, though but for the grace of electrons, silicon, and plastic injection molding, go I.

LenP - without question, a stand-up guy who doesn't take sides based upon a letter after his name, or behind that of a given politician. Being one of only two SA members I've (knowingly) met up with, i can safely say I'd trust my kids/grandkids to him or his young family. Like his views or not, you can believe that his posts are true to his personality, reputation, and personal honor. What you see is what you get, which is all i have a right to ask of any man.

Ease the Sheets - annoys me a little in the gun threads, though perhaps that's my weakness and not his. One has to appreciate another's desire to make the world a better place, even if (as with some of the aforementioned) one doesn't necessarily see eye to eye with the methods. Seems like a damned fine bloke, down deep.

Mainshertsister- man, she sounds like a hoot! I'm honored that she took the time and stayed with this outfit, after joining mainly to relay the affairs of her beloved sister, MSG (whom i never knee or corresponded with). Sounds like the sort of gal who, with husband or whomever, would make for a great day of flintlock shootin', rib-eatin', and mash drinkin' (or whatever).

There are many of you out there whom I can't thank personally (or pick on in-duh-vidually) though it is hopes we can all respect one another alike, in the end.

Hopefully that's the last headache with it. Have you looked at retrofitting to the Pearson pump? It is supposedly much more robust. The Clark is getting long in the tooth.

But the good news is your screens didn't foul. There is so much runoff In some of those harbors.

I don't make water where it's murky if I can avoid it.  Preferably only in places with < 20' visibility!

I'm not likely to retrofit, I've got the full Catalina system with the snazzy MPC-5000 controller that is only two years old.

One can only argue with a block of wood for so long or so many times before it becomes pointless. One eventually decides that sawing your own lumber with others who understand the value of a little give & take, without judgement, makes a fine table at which to sit together.

I'm doing fine.  Almost time to try a new local rum in the ti-Punch*.

* roughly 3:1 rum to cane syrup, with a bit of squeezed lime rind with ice - best with pure cane based "agricole" style rums...takes all the harsh out and lets the rum's more subtle flavor through, which is why you don't want a rum with any other fillers in it.

Now that I have thought about it the good posters outweigh the bad by a mile in number, maybe not in volume(noise) though.

Thanks Tom, Frenchie, mainsheetsis (your sister was golden always), Billybackstay etc...

Billy Backstay?  He is a left wing cuntard who I am lucky to count as a friend.

I like BJ too.  Sounds like he needs a hug, poor fella.

Do brush your teeth after that.  It is a sugar based liquor with a sugar based mixer.  Grog was a staple of the British Navy, and even after they discovered Vitamin C to cure the scurvy, their teeth still came plopping out.

I enjoy following your blog, and I think you should do a "BJ's Mudslide of the Month".

Be creative, my friend, and do something worthy.  You are, after all, going to burn in hell.

We're only here because its this or go back to work. And because I'm sad to have missed the worthless list, you're all a bunch of cunts!

With a close like that, you are going to get on the contributes list.  If Jeff can make it calling people cunts, its clearly a way to get there.

I really don't agree with the C-word. Those are especially ugly words.

Oh I agree, very ugly word, but it seems to get you on the A-list.    Not sure how the OP considers someone who routinely calls others he disagrees with cunts advances the conversation, but hey, its his list not mine.

There now, did I get moved up 'The List' a few notches?....

I regret naming posters I find distasteful, sorry to all. I also wish I had named a bunch more of the thoughtful people on here. Laker, ranger, pointbreak, austin etc...I guess like many on here I have drifted away because the shitfights have become too tedious and all too predictable. I was just sort of venting.

If you feel that way, delete the post.

Tiki/penname - my question is why did you have to create a sockpuppet to post this?  Don't be shy about who is worthwhile and who is worthless.  Why would you feel you had to post that anonymously?

I think most here add something.  I think what I get out this place the most is that it challenges my notion of a fairly homogenous United States and that we all think roughly the same.  Coming from the military, especially as an officer - most of us DO think fairly homogenously.  Its not that we are programmed that way BY the military, but that we were most likely predisposed to a certain thought process to be attracted to the service in the first place.  I know that's an over-generalization, but it holds true most of the time.  In addition, we honestly did not engage in much political talk at work, at the bar or at social events.  We took the oath of office seriously and understood that our job was to be politically neutral while in uniform.  Regardless of our personal political leanings, we kept them to ourselves because to engage in the kind of political discussion that goes on here would be frowned upon at work.  We served our civilian masters to the best of our ability regardless of what letter came after their name.

The point of this being that I was not exposed to much political dissent in my formative adult years.  Coming from a fairly staunch conservative family who probably voted the straight GOP ticket since Nixon, I really only saw one side of the world.  This place shows me there are many many more trains of thought out there and many more world views.  And frankly, I'm astonished at some of them.  Some are good, some are frankly ludicrous, some are downright silly.....but this place has opened my eyes to the stark reality that we really are a nation of very individualistic people who don't conform to many stereotypes at all.  Yes there are clusters of groups that think alike, but mostly being a politician is nothing but herding cats.

I also think what astonishes me the most from being here for years (I was one of the first 10 people from the old original site) is the diversity of intelligence and education in this country.  Not necessarily that the posters here are that diverse in that regard, but the discussions and topics has shown me clearly that there is a HUGE range of diversity in terms of being informed about the world, intelligence, education, common sense, etc.  Its not that I'm calling America stupid, although many are - but I'm frankly shocked at how many people in this country don't have a clue about what's going on in their own country, much less the world - unless its happening on the Jersey Shore, in a kardashian's bedroom, or on an island with people stabbing others in the back to "survive".  Especially when it comes to politics (because this is PA), I think much of the reason we have gotten to where we are (polarized, in debt, in recession, etc) is because too many people are no longer invested in the health and welfare of the country and only care about themselves.  "What's in it for me", rather than being concerned about your neighborhood, your community, your town or city, your state and most importantly your country.

So the point of this novel is that I have actually learned a lot about stuff here because of the majority of the posters and the diversity of opinions.  I would have never likely gotten that anywhere else.  Too many people migrate to internet chat sites that are simply mirrors of their existing world view, which in turn distills it even more sharply without exposure to opposite opinions.  So I value almost everyone here, even if I don't agree with their opinion or think it is flawed logic or just plain silliness.

There are some posters I particularly appreciate who challenge my views and make me think:  Point Break, Austin, AGITC, Benwynn, D'ranger, BJ, Mark, LenP, Tom Ray, Sol, KmC, Moe, Bus Driver, and a few others.

The ones who I truly do not enjoy reading or get nothing from or are most likely just full of vile putrid BS are:  BIAM, akagp, staff-a-car, Dale the hole digger, and a few others I have on ignore.

Everyone else in-between all usually have something to offer, even if I vehemently disagree with some.  special ed and jocal are on the border of being annoying trolls, but I will usually read their work just to see how some of the sillier thought processes on some topics are circulating out there.

Gaytor is a special case.....  he's just the village idiot, the court jester, the clown.  He's amusing simply because of the over-the-top character he plays.  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that the clown persona is an act, because otherwise it would be totally sad.  And sad clowns make me sad........

As much as it pains me to do so, I must compliment JBSF for a pretty damned good post.
There was a time when his writing was ignorantly offensive and heartless I campaigned for his banishment but he has grown mightily over the last few years and now provides
1. A reasonable presentation of the political spectrum opposite my own with which discourse is possible
2. Amusement when he banters with the village idiot.... Whose presence and behavior on SA is in my option not nearly as acceptable as Is described above by JBSF.

Gaston / Gaytor / Gator?? . I don't buy the "He's a good guy off the forum" excuse for intolerable behavior here any more than I buy the "He's a good guy off the race course" for those whose unsportsmanlike behavior is intolerable while racing sailboats .
Assholes are assholes and good sports are good sports .
Gaston is a vile excuse for a human being whose lack of redeeming qualities is regularly proven by his writings.

Jeff - I must say that you've probably...developed...the most of anyone I've seen here in the last decade.  While many of your fundamental positions haven't changed too radically, you've become a lot more open minded about what you see and how you see things and you have changed from some of the rigidity of your views from way back when.  You've gained a lot of perspective from the early days - I can not see the JBSF of today saying some of the things you said ten years ago.

Now, as to whether your experience butting heads with us knuckleheads has had anything to do with that...I'd be more inclined to bet some of your real life changes and what you've seen since then have a lot more to do with it than your discourse here, but who knows.

Generally, being exposed to actual human beings who hold opinions or do things you never personally considered causes a learning experience

If this forum has any redeeming value about which we can brag, it is the various writers slowly begin to recognize the humanity of those who hold opposing opinions to their own.
When that happens, discourse breaks out

Of course mental illness is a trump card. Damaged brains do hat damaged brains do.

Unfortunately, psychopaths like Gaston don't recognize the humanity of their intended victims and never learn discourse

This has nothing to do with me. You're clueless as usual.

Or maybe it was that David Brock book I mailed you all those years ago...

Maybe you should read some Bronte, Mr. home schooler....

You mean that homely woman that keeps showing up on my Kindle screen?

Tiki/penname - my question is why did you have to create a sockpuppet to post this?  Don't be shy about who is worthwhile and who is worthless.  Why would you feel you had to post that anonymously?

Post of the decade, thank you. Spacial, that was why I had Jeff in my thank you list, he sticks a gem in there sometimes.

Jeff you just made me feel like all the time I spent on this website was not wasted
