Note that while the time is correct for Saturdays race ETNZ vs LR RR2, Race 1, it is incorrectly labelled as RR2, Race 2.

Only the ETNZ vs LR races in the rounds to follow are showing up as 'LIVE EVENTS' at present, see: http://www.youtube.c...dwaNnrBBV4rmthG

I don't think ETNZ will try to beat them by too much.

I'm still thinking ETNZ are sandbagging a bit to keep OR guessing on what their optimum angles and speeds are.

Will be viewing on the water today, but the exclusion zone is huge compared to last year. But you can see them up close when they are warming up away from the course. Anybody know what VHF channels have race info?

The AC map shows that it's ok to pass between Alcatraz and SF but on Thursday the marshal boat made us stay north of Alcatraz Island.

Hey...

First... I am NOT a techy... but seem to get by.

I think you are saying that you click on it... it opens to a black box that doesnt do anything.

I have found that if you click to expand the screen... for some reason the vid plays. IIRC it would happen vimeo...

Of course this may not be what you describing.

The AC map shows that it's ok to pass between Alcatraz and SF but on Thursday the marshal boat made us stay north of Alcatraz Island.

There are many 'maps'. Recently they had to push the boundaries even further out as they claim the crews wanted a 45 second buffer beyond the boundaries before they ran into traffic!

Good luck with your mission out there you poor bugger! ;)

Or at least offer opportunities to attack the opponent - as long as they're not too far back. Dees Smith has done a great job schooling Barker and his team on the local conditions...

don't understand LR's tactics- following in the wake of NZ in jibes, then the way they are handling the current and their position relative to NZ going up wind

and didya see the LR crew trying to get on the grinder with the handles spinning? yikes

and how cool was NZ's rounding of the leeward mark

Pretty clear this ac is going to be won into wind.

ETNZ-LR lost almost 2 minutes upwind.  So yeah, upwind will decide things.

Also, with the shorter bowsprit, ETNZ-LR's boat does not look balanced.  Maybe once they get the boat sorted out with the new/shorter bowsprit they will improve, but it would need too be a huge leap of improvement to catch ETNZ.

What an ass kicking.

Thanks. I had hoped that there was something on the AC website that a less interested, casual viewer could refer to to understand the framework, like crew lists for the current race, length of the course etc.

A comprehensive overview for the non-geek like the person I'm currently watching the race with.

I noticed they aren't giving the distance between the two boats anymore.  I think Dogzilla's biggest lead was 3.5K - I imagine this will be at least 1.5K by the end.

It's a bit hard to get both boats in the same shot!

True except it halved their lead. Awesome to watch. The shut out at the start was total

Screen grab of the "small issue", or of an ETNZ sailor trying to fix something:

What superyachts are there with NZ flags?

I can see Adela, Imagine D and Thalia, any other ones?

Yes, the boats are impressive, but any significant difference in boat performance will result in a huge distance between the boats. THey'll seldom be in shot at the same time...

If TNZ averaged 30 knots on the downwind leg their lead was over 4.5KM when they finished.

I think TNZ is going to give us a run for our money.

Not true Ray Davies is on the other wheel until Barker gets there

I am surprised that there is no one on the helm when Barker runs from side to side during a tack.

I wonder if Oracle does it the same way.

So less a two boat race than a two boat time trial around the course.

I see him there for the gybes, I didn't see anyone on the wheel during the tacks.  I will have to check it out when the replay is available.

This was predicted 18 months ago .

Just took this long for everyone else to realize it .

The hardest job for AC 34 will be held by the commentators .

This is going to suck to truly epic proportions .

Why wait? You can restart the video whenever you want to or go to any particular point you want - it's not really 'live'

Race 4. Hey will someone tell me about that time on distance thing again. Really important apparently

I would chalk this ass kicking up to a significant difference in crew performance, then boat performance.

ETNZ's crew was flawless, ETNZ-LR's was piss poor.

LR looked like a flash in the pan :)

Actually flashed good speed, damn near 40 knots at times.

But damn that was dominating by ETNZ. Crushed 'em!
