C5.4 A black flag with a blue or yellow flag and one long sound means
‘The identified boat is disqualified, and the match is terminated and
awarded to the other boat.’

LR requested that AR be disqualified if they don't show up.  Thus, they don't have to sail the whole course to be declared the winner.

Excellent idea, LR wants to sail less....... How does that help them I wonder?

EDIT:

The webcam is showing AR flying around just off the course. Makes more sense that LR would protest like this.

The reference by LR and the cite explaining a black flag in Appendix C of the RRS is correct. Rule 60.5 is the cite in the RRSAC, but they do not use flags in the AC.

If you want to see real match racing, the Chicago Match Cup starts in 2 weeks. It is part of the World Tour and its only stop in the US. You could see an actual black flag flown and possibly a crowd of 800,000 as it is being held with the Tall Ships at Navy Pier.

60.5 In a Match Race of an ACWS event when, after one yacht has started, the umpires are satisfied that the other yacht will not finish, they may signal under rule 44.1© that the yacht that will not finish is disqualified.

Thank you for pointing out the correct cite.
