If there is say more than 4 challengers say, then why not have fleet racing and then after a certain time say 1 is eliminated and keep going and eliminate another as it continues until there is a winner?( something like the moths used at the end of Australians, which was won by the way by Peter Burling) Then the winner goes on to meet the defender.

The 45's appeal is the fleet racing by a lot of the comments here on SA.

How about a mickst format, where there woz a fleet of reference botes for newbie teems to uze (lyk the existing AC45 fleet)

but the ayleet teems also feelded there own development boats bilt to the saem rewl .

(the newbies would get a thirty ? second start on the ayleet fleet)

There woud be a trophy for the best newbie teem

The two fastest ayleet challenger teems would then have a match racing final to select the challenger.

The defender woud rayss in the fleet racing but not the match, until the AmCup match

Wun bad thing: we woud looz sum of the drama of not noing how the defender woz for speed, but there

woud be no need for them to lyt the afterberners in the fleet racing, az they woud not be elidjibel to win.

Of corss there iz also the Alinghi problem of the defender beeing abel to 'queer the pitsh' for the most dayndjerus

challenger . . . .

That would not be a match racing competition then.

We could as well play cricket for the cup!  The Brits might win something then - or at least field a frickin' team.

We have plenty of regattas worldwide, but only one AC. It still deserves respect as the ultimate match race.

A true TP race. SF to AKL, stopping in Hawaii for beer.

Whoever gets there first gets to race ETNZ.

Similar to the good old days of the NYYC.

"If there is say more than 4 challengers say, ..."

And that is when the fit hits the shan.
