Best possible result from tomorrow is that Jimmy and the Boys win race 1 and Barker stages a comeback to win race 2.  (Or even better, OR beaks down in the second race, handing NZ the victory.)

That way the Cup comes down to NZ, which is closer to OZ and probably a better place to stage it ( local support etc), but we still get to needle the Kiwis for years that they really didn't win it.

Ah, the opportunities are boundless !!!!

Best possible result is that OTUSA wins the next two.  Then they are even and it is a winner take all situation.  They erase the two race deficit and both teams go on the water on Wednesday knowing that one of them will take the cup home.  That is the best situation.

With a Kiwi win. Then Larry sues and gets his ass handed to him in court. What could be more perfect?

Would be really good for the 2 race penalty to cost them the cup, eg. OR win race 1 and kiwis win race 2. Then maybe those motherfuckers will learn that you cannot cheat........or appeal, they put that rule in....

NWS forecast (Tuesday):

Today: W wind 15 to 21 kt, with gusts as high as 29 kt. Sunny.

Tonight: W wind 17 to 22 kt decreasing to 9 to 14 kt in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 31 kt. Clear.

Wednesday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W 11 to 16 kt in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 kt. Sunny.

Could be one race today, and tomorrow. Then, possibly racing postponed 'till Monday.

Personally my best scenario: winner take all on Monday.

But then NZ will have the burden of defending the cup, without the satisfaction of earning the cup. And in the morning their sexy little cor will turn out to be an irritating bitch. Have fun with that!

That's a typical Saturday morning around my digs. By Monday things have settled down. Tuesday I'm satisfied, and the burden is not so heavy. Wednesday, I am ready to make my defense, and Thursday, Friday, filled the cup. Then, repeat.

Sell it somewhere else.  OR was penalized for cheating under the rules agreed to, period.  You can debate it all you want in your own echo chamber, it will not change the result.  OR cheated and was penalized.  If the Kiwis win they earned every bit of it.

Best possible scenario:

OR wins race 1. Then in race 2, NZL takes the start, holds off an attacking OR with 20 jibes on the final run. Then right at the leeward gate, NZL breaks a daggerboard allowing OR to pass and win. Crowd goes f'ing apeshit bat-nuts.

Wednesday, NZL throws a card and gets four days to add some magic sauce. Monday, both teams come out swinging and [fill in your team here] wins by 2 seconds after a protracted luffing duel between mark 4 and the finish with both teams throwing protests and cussing like sailors to the point that network TV must abruptly terminate the broadcast and later make an on-air apology to anyone who may have been traumatized by the event.

Entire population of NZL riots in (anger or euphoria, pick one) with a state of emergency declare throughout the southern hemisphere...and the US goes back to watching football and eating Doritos as if nothing happened.

OR wins the first race today and NZL concedes the regatta.  Much love for the Kiwi's then.  The 2-point penalty is phony anyway and won't hold up in a court battle.

Not if they win less races. Dude, if they win race 1 today then game over and well done. Really well done. Huge applause and all the little children can be proud. But if OR hit 9 races first it will suck IFF TNZ win another. There will be a huge asterisk on this event and NZ does not deserve that!

Would that be possible to play the card on Wednesday?  If they play the card then doesn't the start just move to 2:15PM?

The asterisk belongs to OR not ETNZ.  OR cheated not ETNZ.  It was a scoring penalty not a win penalty.

I don't think anyone (anyone rational that is) thinks the Kiwi's will deserve the asterisk.  But if they win 9 to 10-2, the asterisk wont be on ORTUSA.  History will record their victory with the asterisk.  ORTUSA will be no more, so asterisk shadow will be cast down under.  It's unfortunate, but it is true.

Race 1 called on Wednesday for no wind. Better?

Good question though. If it comes done to the last race, with they schedule two races or just one? I have no idea, but you're probably right, the wind limit or time limit could take out one of the races, so scheduling two is probably the thing to do. My head hurts now...

Imagine it all comes down to the final race....  All tied up, winner takes all....

Boats overlapped at final mark....

Windy day, both pushing hard on the last leg to take it....

Hurtling toward the finish line at 50 kts.....

Bows to bows....

Fans going wild....

Right on the edge....

Big gust hits...

Both boats pitchpole half a length from the line!

Whichever boat's masthead wand crosses the line first as the wing hits the water takes it....

All crew safely rescued.  Insane partying ensues in two hemispheres.

THAT would be something....   (inspired by Talladega Nights I think...)

And the difference between this, and having to go to court to actually get to a final.

There will be no burden or astrix....there is no second place in this event.

..I have no idea who will win!

Come on ETNZ

Yes, agree with that. Though I want OR to go all they, if TNZ are to take it, hope it R1 today.
Like in the next hour.

Breeze is on right now. If they sneak this one in might the highest winds of the match.
