Not sure why he went on Colbert, but no harm done, and if it helps promote sailing - it's all good.

Not sure why he went on Colbert,

Ummm...seriously?

NEW YORK, April 4, 2013 -  For the first time, "The Colbert Report" has overtaken "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" among Adults 18-49 for a full quarter to give COMEDY CENTRAL the #1 and #2 late night talk shows in the key advertiser demographic, joining "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" at the top of the ratings charts. The multiple Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning series also continued their long-standing dominance among younger viewers finishing the quarter as the most-watched late night talks shows in all of television, both broadcast and cable, among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-24, Adults 25-34, Men 18-49, Men 18-34 and Men 18-24. TheDailyShow.com and ColbertNation.com maintained their industry-leading positions as the top late night talk shows in digital during 1Q 2013 leading the field among Total Visits, Unique Visitors, Total Minutes/Time Spent and Videos Streamed. He is also a sailor which makes it easier, you hardly recognise him in this video after the Bermuda race:

Colbert made only a quick, passing reference to his own sailing experience. One of the best parts about that pretty cool interview is how the script writers kept attention where it was best due.

JS looked pretty lit up, absolutely nailed that it was about fun. His enthusiasm was infectious.

Am trying to imagine that guy's schedule since waking up early in the morning to maybe the biggest race of his life, Race 19.. Was on a flight to NY very late that night, did several apperances, was aimed at Hawaii for some brutally physical slog after, then back to the US east coast after.. Amazing how he keeps the pace, and the great attitude. The guy is on top of the sailing world like few if any have ever experienced, he just grabs it by the horns and revels in it. IMO, DC and RC have got nothing over JS on the biggest counts - attitude most especially.

No way that BA could have pleased like JS did on the Colbert Report.

They should have gotten Colbert out on a AC72 while the AC was running, late August say.    Great to see a public figure who gets it, even though in the interview he is playing dumb and mugging for the camera a bit.

Instead, they gave  that fruit-loop Tom Cruise a ride.    FFS!

Colbert did a race from Charleston to Bermuda a year or two ago, IIRC; but don't know what boat he has, or if it was a charter.  He did a funny (sorta) skit upon his return about the trials and deprivation of an ocean race...

EDIT.. I thought JS was going to be on 60 mintues Sunday, but wasn't there???

We had Colbert's video piece on the front page, it was pretty funny - search colbert and sailing anarchy and you'll find it.  He was invited to charter one of the OnDeck 40 footers before they went tits up - Mer and I were actually brought in to help out but saw the OnDeck program and hightailed it out of there.

Colbert ended up on some shitbox with a couple of his friends and didn't even make the awards ceremony,  It was the C2B race, which is dead but doesn't seem to want to stop breathing.

And he reads SA.

In the land of completely useless hypothetical media competitions, Stingray holds all the keys.

Jimmy is off to Maui for some boarding after our interview tomorrow, and he told me he would take me up on my invitation to come Moth Worlds watching from a media boat.  Maybe our interview will have a part 2.

A number of years ago he was looking at chartering my boat for Annapolis/Bermuda. I didn't really know who he was at the time but my college kids did and were very excited to meet him. He backed out because of a movie schedule  or something.

Another derisive trashing of the AC on the front page again today; WTF?  Scot and/or Clean really need to get off the negativity train.  Yes, the AC was too expensive, didn't have enough teams, and other obvious flaws, but what a spectacle!  I wasn't at the local pub watching the races but my mates that were said that all the Nascar, golf and tennis fans watching were totally gobsmacked!!

For starters, I think it highly unlikely that Oronato expected Ellison to pay the freight for his campaign. Pierre is great, and I loved his coverage of AC 33, but like any other journalist, he needs be able to back up statements like that.

Here is a link to the SI interview - http://sportsillustr...2013-10-03-full

I loved the polarizing personalities of Dean and Jimmy during the Cup and watching Jimmy make his rounds on the media circuit post winning is something else.  He is entertaining, engaging and minus the accent and references to sailing you would think he was a typical american athlete.  Here's hoping they can capitalize on this for the next cycle.

I do have to say that I was dissapiointed in Colbert with his interview.  There were so many angles for him to play with the name of the race, won by one of the richest American's with a team of hired guns from other countries, many from the country they beat.  He had some fun but not nearly as much as I would have come to expect form him.  Truthfully I think he was a little bit in awe and excited to do the interview and fell out of character.

I think you are right in that assumption.  I was at a taping of his show in New York a couple of years ago, and when he gets into character it is truly amazing.  He must be totally exhausted, physically and mentally at the end of the show. I think he cracked himself up and had to start over at least a half dozen times throughout the taping.

No way that BA could have pleased like JS did on the Colbert Report.

Anyone have audio from the Stern Show?  Much more interested in hearing that.  I know JS has been a hardcore fan for a while and has done occasional interviews.

He wasn't actually on the Stern show, he hung out with the producers one day.  He addresses Howard in our interview. "I really screwed up - I was going to do a Bababooey on the microphone when we won but I forgot!"

I think he wanted a ride... Just like the rest of us!

Jimmy will be in Annapolis on Friday.

A bit after noon, he was at the wine shop (Mills?) just outside the show autographing bottles of Aussie vino.
