...it's about time we come up with our favorite boats....and argue endlessly as to which boats should win the (soon to be) prestigious SA--b.o.t.y awards......rules...must have an oddball quality that appeals to anarchists,,,be resourceful in some way,,,and have a video that involves either women, alcohol,,or sailing -fast-!!.......arguments close on giftsmas day.

...in the <15' category,,,of course I'll put the HOOT! forward--no surprise there,it's not a new design,,but it certainly didn't hit the water as a fleet until this year,,,this was SA's first supporter of dinghy anarchy,,,,and is quickly establishing itself as the  most active high-perf singlehanded fleet in the northwest. B)

...........

...in the 15'-20' category,,, I'd vote for the '' http://www.sprayltd.... 'cacker 15'.

http://forums.sailin...34#entry4346156

...this boat is not only my vote,,but is my inspiration to create the SA boat of the year!!

...for a 15' boat with sitting headroom and 6' berths,,it's incredible how well this boat sails on it's lines!...  http://4ekel.blogspo...og-post_25.html

...and comes in at a cool $7600(us),, f.o.b. russia somewhere---you can't beat that!!!!

..yer just gotta love any boat that launches every time with vodka splashed all-over!!  .....

...definitely my vote for the overall award.

...20'-30'....hmmm,,,mejustdonno

...30-50'....never thought of of one <_<

....50-80'...yer just gotta say those VOR's have some potential to make a great race once they're at it,,,but probably not going to create much excitement until they're 'on-the-track',,,,

.........but those foiling cat thingies in SF were pretty cool--too bad they don't drink,,act silly,,or have women sprawled all-over or they might qualify.

..............have at it!!!,,,,,,,,use as many commas, exclamations, emoticons as you want**!!!!!

.....**...-5- max.

However.....as anarchists of the sailing type.  Should we follow the same path as so many overly righteous  and hollow magazines  and have our Boat of the Year actually symbolize a vessel that we would want to go to sea in?

I say HELL NO!

The Sailing Anarchy boat of the year nominations should be boats that absolutely nobody would want to be caught alive with two strippers anchored off of Fort Lauderdale with a case of Jack just sitting in the cockpit.  A boat that if the choice of its use for the weekend or helping your ex move in with her/his significant others huge house you chose to help the EX.  A vessel so hideously fat and ugly that describing the boat as fat and ugly is generous.

I propose a nomination for the Sailing Anarchy boat of the year .......

http://marlow-hunter...Intro-Flyer.pdf

May she grace the mythical front page as the Sailing Anarchy Boat of the Year for 2014.

I was going to throw in the obligatory Mac 26 nomination, but that Marlow Hunter thingy noted above is so God Damned awful that I just don't see the point. The only positive is that it is much much safer than a mac 26 since a mac 26 might actually leave the doc.   <Now where did I leave my eye bleach?>

Ha my old friend the Hunter 216.....Well way back in 2003 I wrote a piece for SA on my visit to the Annapolis show and that boat.   I thought it was pretty funny and Scot posted it under "odd Duck" on the front page....needless to say people took my funny piece as a serious review and the crucifixion began.

The link is gone but it was cited several times in various posts on several sites as the cracks occurred and the performance was about the same as an Ensign.  From the faux carbon fiber to the most dainty tiller/rudder not much can ever compare to this sport boat.  In the end I didn't feel too bad for all of the victims / buyers of this boat since a warning story was posted on the front page and numerous threads were in SA.  At this time after I believe two recalls and a change to fiberglass from the weird plastic stuff they should have their act together.  So the design is now over 10 years old and I suspect that what you see is what you get.  Not a bad thing.

The good thing that came out of the Hunter 216 posts on SA is that we can go ahead and be critical, funny or say just about anything about a boat or someone elses opinion.....you may just be right!

The Catalina 275 that is being displayed at Annapolis is a rush job as it only touched the water two weeks ago.  Catalina may have something there for schools, retired, US based rentals/charters etc.  But we really won't even know that until they get it out in some heavy stuff and sort out what they want to do with it.  I suspect the interior isn't up to production standards either. The one thing I can guarantee is that unlike Hunters efforts Catalina sorts out their boats pretty quick and makes needed changes.  There is potential there it is just going to be several months until we see a production version to take a good look at.

I wish Catalina the best with the effort.  If they can sell enough of well sorted out 275's then they might be open to something like Robert Perry's FT 13.8 meter proposal. Catalina seems to be happy with small production runs and they have the capability to build lower tech one design racers at a decent price.  It is definitely a wait and see then decide whether to lynch'em!

Where my Hunter 216 piece should be;

http://sailinganarch...3/hunter216.htm

One of the several posts on various sites that cited SA's front page story and the threads on the Hunter 216.....oh and the vast majority of us who posted were absolutely correct in saying to avoid the Hunter 216.

Sliver..if we are being serious.

If not, no boat has gotten more attention than the FH.

Either way a special nod should go to boats that grew up before our own eyes.
HOOT, Shaw 4.0, Sliver, FH, a number of new design International Canoes, Fill Your Hands, F-22 ect.

Re: the Hunter 216.  I took one on a test sail one time in typical Ventucky afternoon westerly and seas.  That boat was a dog.  But the funniest thing that happened was reaching back toward the harbor, I actually got it to start surfing down a windswell.  It got going pretty good and then suddenly came to a complete stop with water shooting up through the centerboard case and inundating the cockpit.  Funniest and saddest thing I had ever seen. Just when it was showing the possiblity of being fun, it stops dead and fills with water.

.

........why bother??......I sped by a foiler moth on sunday!!** :)  :P

.....a primary market- focus for the HOOT is it's natural place as a great ,simple step into the world of high-performance....it's single ,yet powerful sailplan,,,and the fact you're not trapezing makes it a lot more accessible than other choices,,

,,,and it's ability to sail effectively in 0-30knots is very relevant

.......**...of course it was ~4knots of breeze---the moth was flopping around like moths do when they get trapped in hot candlewax

.........................but it rather makes a point if you live in an area prone to light winds

What's logic have to do with it!?

Yeah the hoot is. (a hoot )

Was pretty active with the Jr. Program and small boat sailing when the Hoot was being devolped in Richmond. They used to give the latest version to Matt Noble to sail 'til he broke it then they would repair and revise. Saw some pretty spectacular crashes. Pretty funny recovery cha chas when they were having problems with the wings taking on water and not draining.

Are the intigrated wheels/dolly thing still part of the package?

I was thinking the foiler package might be easily adaptable from a moth set up. Another level of Hootness!

or not.

You have got to love these folks for making their dream boat!  Maybe this is the new J/45 competitor?  For <$8k plus shipping... how many would fit into a 40 ft container, you'd have a great OD fleet at a club for under $100k... yes, something is wrong over here when the folks in the former east bloc can do this cheaper and faster than the "sailing" west - bravo comrades!

Odd sailor, come out on the SR next year.

We have already a season end :) Ice will rise soon.
Besides we have no boat for trial runs as the first four boats are already bought, paid and go to customers to the different cities.

No, we had one day for photo and video with the first boat.  She wasn't ordered without any spinaker rig.
With the second boat we participated in races with boats of the international class Micro (18 foots). Second boat also wasn't ordered a spinaker rig, but we ourselves put a bowsprit, and made wires under a genaker. Unfortunately, two days of races weren't rather strong wind and race passed at a wind along a small pond that compelled to go tacking with a genaker.

Sliver..if we are being serious.

If not, no boat has gotten more attention than the FH.

Either way a special nod should go to boats that grew up before our own eyes.
HOOT, Shaw 4.0, Sliver, FH, a number of new design International Canoes, Fill Your Hands, F-22 ect.

...

..not a bad idea 'Cav',,,,,though it seems we'dneed to narrow things down in each category.....

..........of course,I'd nominate the HOOT! in the under 15's  ,,but certainly the shaw should get honorable mention for keeping many of us busy last winter........

....under 20'?.......of course i550's have a whole worldwide network coming together,,thanks to SA,and not much else,,

,,and over 20' would clearly the Dart --definitely grew up on these pages, starting with a 'what-am-I-doing-wrong' post

and the 'flyin&lying' is an obvious weiner in the 50'up category,,with gunboats a distant second........

.

............so what's-to-love in the 30-40' range???

So, who came up with the name of "Sputnik"? I got a deal. I pay for all drinks on this side and I can stay drunk as long as want to on the another side. Ekaterinburg is my hometown, It's time to visit motherland I guess. I'm in Phila area, I visit NYC often.
