I just ran the latest models for the Key West Feeder Race and if you like big breeze from back of the beam...then you are in for what may be one hell of a sleigh ride...Eat your Wheaties and stack crap in the back of the bus...On the bright side, you won't need to hose off the deck Wednesday morning before you depart (Light rain in the early hours if the models confirm...)

Maybe...

Swans don't plane. We'll just dig a hole to china in the water under the 1.5oz kite and watch the planing boats go zipping away.

That one doesn't.  That much I know first hand.

This will be my first year in nearly 20 that I do the race the easy way.  Turnpike/US1. I do have to upload pics and write a story from the start at some point, but I should still be down there pretty early on Wednesday.  I'll try to leave you some beer.

Thinking I may ask very nicely to send a bag of clothes in your trunk too. Weight saving on this heavy ass boat is more a state of mind than a performance enhancing action.

The winds that were previously forecast to show up in time for lunch on Wednesday are running late and now won't be there until around dinner time. It may make for an interesting approach into Key West in the overnight hours in 18-23+ knots of wind. The direction has changed as well and is now looking more West rather than North early slowly clocking to NW.  Not the early sleigh ride first depicted by the models but it still looks fun in the second half of the race and beats trailering down or beating into 30 knots....Have fun everyone. Stay aboard.

Mostly 14-18 and then becoming 18-24 late G 27+ consistent clocking from West to NW and then a healthy shift to NNW just after breakfast for those of you still on the course at that time. Drop me a note with any questions!

Can't sleep. Puttering around the boat. Excited by the forecast of a building westerly. Might be slow for the D+ off the line but a breeze on waterline romp down the coast makes LH a happy boy.

It is a great day to go to KW, as always. Now seeing about 10-12 from 320 here at LYC. Signal boat heading out in a few. I'll be shooting pics and vid from the start, with commentary laced with my rapier wit. Once ashore, I will zoom to Miami, get on a Protector with Marco Oquendo (images bymarco.com) to go out to Fowey for some on the race course footage.

Hook in, hold on, and enjoy the ride. Lets have some fun.

Start was fun. Jesse fielding and Chris branning from morning light were on fireball and seemed indignant that a cruising boat would dare to hold them up.

Race going well. Have blown up one kite and put a small tear in the other but nothing catastrophic. Holding well on corrected we think. Different drummer is shot out of a fucking cannon but we are hoping to reel them in. Everyone else is in touch on corrected we think. God I love this race it's blowing 15-20 at 120 true and we're motoring at 9 knots in shorts and a vest. Taking a 10 minute break from the helm to post this update and I'm headed back out for more.

I like to call the time between 2 and 6 AM in this race "Moving Day", because seemingly every year, there is a boat that grabs the race by the balls at that time, and doesn't relax it's grip until the awards presentation. A look at the tracker this morning, and the two videos I am about to post, will show that boat to be the ride of none other than our own Left Hook, the Swan 53 Dragon Fly Plus. The boat is loving the heavy conditions, and has a firm grip on the proverbial sack, with 20 miles left. Will they relax their grip?

Finishers end up at different marinas, so I am going to take one for the team and go to the one place where everyone goes when they get off of the water. I'll be bringing some comments from Pepe's.

6 hours on the helm last night and I only relinquished it to take those videos and lay in my bunk for a bit before heartbreak alley.

Matt B and first light are chasing hard.

If you sit on the rail you just get wet.  Save that for the beat to the finish.

Sit in the back of the cockpit and keep the bow up, that will help more.

That is my regular ride. They are on the rail now, for the beat to the finish, I guarantee.

Loki has a shot at DFP, but must finish by 11:16 to beat the big boat.

The tracker has Loki in the alley, the leaderboard has them finished and Yacht Scoring doesn't have them. Any word on where they are?

Spookie finished at 6:58 am.

Loki is now updated on Yacht Scoring. 11:32 finish time. Likely to be first for PHRF B, 2nd for PHRF overall.

What's up with the FT in Boot Key?

Hurt, broken or tired.

I hope it is just fatigue.
