Just watching the live feed from Les Voiles St Barth and the camera pans to reveal Bella Mente with her rig in the water, no further info right now, but after a good day Wednesday, she'd moved into first overall. Fingers crossed the boys are all ok, that'll put a crimp on Bermuda prep!

Admittedly they did manage to get themselves together pretty quickly after dropping the rig in the build up to their Transpac win.

True, their last rig save was from Hall and there's a few top Hall guys there onsite with Selene, I'd imagine there would be a chat happening later, if not already.

The clock, no matter how much money, is ticking.

Bella has two rigs, one for inshore and one for offshore, but I'd be surprised if they both were in the Caribbean.

Bummer for this year's program, which I understood to have them switching configurations a number of times.

The mast that dropped on the old boat pre-transpac was a southern rig. Hall built the replacement.

When an owner or owner's representative negotiates with a spar builder, the conversation is semi-complex.

The spar builder wants to know where the owner stands on the reliability/grand-prix continuum. How deep is the pocketbook and how acceptable is rig failure. Belle Mente has (had) two rigs and presumably the onboard talent knows when to rig each one.

The spar builder wants to know if the program has enough talent onboard to keep a trick rig in the boat because no matter who signed off on the design, ultimately, future customers are going to be judging the builder on the quality of the rig.

I think it's freakin' awesome that a mini-maxi has an inshore and offshore rig! It's a shame one broke. Hope things get squared away tout de suite.

Looks like it snapped around the gooseneck- although no reason that'd be the site of the original failure, it'll be interesting to find out.

Who's the most common spar builder these boats usually go for?

Yeah, by the time gravity becomes important in the rig's balance of forces, your sailing day is pretty much done. Statics ---> Dynamics.

I was next to George and the Rambler boys at Baz Bar the last evening. My phone dinged with a FB message from an old buddy who works on a stinkpot. He was asking if I knew anyone on Rambler, they'd just hit it with their tender. I went over to the Rambler crowd and said, "uhh...don't shoot the messenger, but you might want to take a look at this". To their credit, their first thought was if everyone was safe and unhurt.

They're in Simpson Bay now.
