Yes this is sorta a big deal but not new. The thing I had not thought of is that some people load lots of free apps on their cell phones and many of those free apps are primarily designed to gather data on the user - when you see the "what we need access too" portion of the pre install notification which you must agree too. Why a mapping app needs access to your phone book? when I see that sort of stuff in an app I simply don't install it.

He mentions that some apps may enable this geo tagging feature even if you have turned it off manually. My wife found out that typically the standard default with both Iphones and Samsung phones is the OFF status!. However that does not mean it the feature is off - given any app could have turned this feature on.

In the gold prospecting forums, this is regarded seriously. Some of the guys have found gps tracking devices attached to their trucks and then equipment missing and highbankers (thieves) in taking their gold from their claims.

Android phones take a gps snapshot, and turn on the camera and microphone very frequently.

That's why Androids kill their batteries so fast.

Guitar we just fly drones around your place and monitor your movements that way. Less obvious

No it's not. Not on Android anyways. Kit Kat will turn it on and off as it wants.

The Android platform is free money-wise but Google is getting their value.
