No reports of looting. You know why? There isn't a Foot Locker store in the Napa area.

The real looting comes from the wealthy who steal from the farm workers by doubling them as household staff at below minimum wage.

Isn't Oakland close enough that the "Occupy" crowd could be bussed in for some good 'ol fashioned civil disturbances?
Maybe throw some trash cans through the front windows of some local businesses. You know, rage against "The Man."

Since you spend all day on the computer, you probably fall under the wealthy category and not the farm worker/ household staff illegal alien category. Do you need oxygen when looking down from your high horse?

Foot locker?  I don't get it.

Implication:  Black people like Air Jordans, but like everyone, hate paying inflated prices.  Unlike everyone, they'll use a killing or natural catastrophe to break into Foot Locker for said Air Jordans.

Therefore, if no Foot Lockers, no reason for bad black people to flood the area and riot.

Folder - am I close?

I don't recall the looters in New Orleans carrying off Air Jordans.  I do recall Heineken Beer, Flat screen TVs, and designer dresses tho.  Maybe its a regional thing.

We got shook up pretty good. Lost power for about 12 hours but the water stayed on. No gas yet, but at this time of year it's a near total who cares. Got lots of ways to cook stuff. Some cracks in some plaster but not the foundation.

Here's the bad news: Something felt wrong, and sure as shit water spilled on the counter showed a biased flow towards one direction. Put a level on it and I know it was dead nuts level before this, and now the bubble is about two millimeters off. A water level has confirmed the left side of the house is now 1 1/4" lower than the right side. The marks of ground level are the same, there was no sinking, and everybody I've checked so far has the same thing.  The entire fucking hill has tilted to the left a bit.

This does not bode well for the next election. I am very frightened.

Good. Well spread the word. The majority of chimneys in our area were cracked and it wasn't always easy to see. A lot of damage was done internally and hidden or only apparent from inside the attic. Even to steel re-enforced stacks. House and chimney shaking at wildly different frequencies, all the stress gets focused right at that spot.

They don't want any surprises this winter when they light a fire in the fire place.

Or have any 2 ton chunks coming thru the ceiling on the next big shaker.

Will do.

Trivia: The original one pulled away from the house a bit in 89, was just a few more good shakes away from a timm--berrrr... scenario, quite likely.  Torn down and a new base poured, all documented by the previous owner.

Speaking of which has anyone heard Obama say anything about the Napa quake? A google search shows nothing. I'll apologize in advance if he addressed it and I missed it.

Unless a white cop shot a black looter or a black professor was breaking into his own house and verbally berated a white cop for doing his job - I doubt you'll hear much out of him.
. Yep no wine summit for the businesses in Napa. Not even worth 30 seconds from his "tea" time.

Sorry Sol a billion dollars damage and unless you can find a clip he basically ignored it.

Okay.

yes I was being serious. Many of the business did not carry earthquake insurance because of the cost. It was not just a tremor.

The major quake hit Napa and surrounding areas, including nearby Vallejo, causing significant property damage in both Napa and Vallejo and injuring about 200 people. Historic buildings such as the Napa County Courthouse, numerous businesses and wineries, and a number of city and county government facilities were damaged. More than 30 structures in downtown Napa have been "red-tagged," meaning they've been deemed unsafe for occupancy or use until repaired or torn down.

TM, I have to side with SOL a bit on this one.  I wouldn't expect POTUS to weigh in on an event that is primarily a state issue that didn't involve much in the way of significant injury.  He can't be everywhere, all the time.

What's he supposed to do?  Say "if I had a wine bottle, it would look like this one"?  Besides, he's already had a beer summit.  If he now has a wine summit - it will just look like he's promoting alcohol.

The last estimate I head was about $100M in damage.  Given Napa wines are one of my greatest loves on earth..... I don't say this lightly.  It IS a tragedy, but its not one I'm willing to waste my precious bodily outrage over.  I'm sure there are white cops shooting innocent, skittle-armed black gentle giants all over the country as we speak that will better suit my outrage.

Now THIS is an outrage!

It may become a federal issue.  They can't figure that out overnight, after an earthquake.  http://www.sfgate.co...p#photo-6775788

Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which advises the president on whether to provide disaster relief and to what degree, say they're waiting to hear how much help is needed.

"We're standing by ready to support the state, should they request our assistance," said FEMA spokesman Casey De Shong.

Even if local and state officials deem that help is needed, federal aid is not a lock.

Last year FEMA initially rejected the governor's request to help cover damages from the Rim Fire, the catastrophic wildfire that burned through many Sierra communities and along the western edge of Yosemite National Park.

The state appealed the rejection, and the president agreed to assist with the recovery.

Not really my point - I am not saying he should drop what he is doing and fly out to Napa - Nor do I think he needed to call an emergancy press conference, but to completely ignore it for 4 days seems odd.   I will make a prediction if CNN or the NYT's asks the same questions I have - expect a quick press conference set up by the White House.

California is a Blue (giver) State, and takes it's time in requesting Fed Aid for when it's needed (The state has to ask, first, that's how it works)

This of course, is in contrast to Red (taker) states who cry every time their god smites them.

cite is a few posts up. Actually it ranges from 1 billion to 4 billion.
So the new standard is POTUS only comments on suffering Americans after aid is requested. Got it.

Why would I bother with his tripe?

Could be four billion.  Could be less than enough to qualify for federal assistance, see my cite quoting FEMA.  I think I'll wait until the facts are in.  Nobody is sure that it is a billion.  Yet.

Now, are we really supposed to get worked up because Obummer hasn't mentioned it, without knowing what he prioritized ahead of this event?  What else has he discussed in his press conferences since the quake?  Has he had a press conference since the quake?

As I mentioned before, an event bad enough to bring FEMA into the mix would be more likely to get the President's Obummer's attention.  So what was Obummer talking about instead of the quake?  Did he have an pressers in the days following the quake?

Obummer refused to call it a terrorist attack for some reason.  Perhaps because that doesn't fit with his lies about Al Qaeda being on the run, but maybe because he hates America. Could be either. Could be both too. I won't pre-judge, but I think what is clear so far is this being Obummer's Katrina.

IIRC, Louisiana didn't ask for federal help in prioritizing their Corps of Engineer projects, preparing for Katrina or evacuating low lying areas.  Somehow, it was still Bush's fault.

So terribly unfair.
