A mate of mine called it a "Twilight Zone" race.Another issue to throw into the mix.....
Just looked at my insurance and I have coverage or races less than 50Nm in length. I am sure that this is the same for may SBs and those that don't sail seriously offshore.
Anyone thought of having a chat to Club Marine and the other insurers about a bulk dispensation?

You'll end up either in the mud or on a sand bank before that happens??HcW, have you got the bridge opening cleared yet, for when we get blown out of the not sheltered waters?
I wouldn't want that getting in our way as we get blown to Kiwiwland.

I keep being told we are white, but I reckon we are more not white.Looks like it's had a succession of "Clever" sailors to own it.
One of the this that I always remember about the Boat, was that "Tropical White" seamed to be greyer than the others, and it had fantastic Sails - great shape, and also the boat looked settled.

We've got a heap of local knowhow to do the race - but we've got a couple of tricks up our sleaves, which requires plotter help.Local nohow!

Yeah, whats that tour got to do with YOUR tour?GybeSet, my local team was North Sydney - but Manly put a stop to that the "Bastards".
Can't believe they'd get the Tour riders, to do 8 laps around Paris after 3 and 1/2 thousand K's - Made good viewing though with cobblestones being wet and all.
Back to the HcW 24-hour, has anyone got any questions?? Steve - GybeSet - Phil

Hey H, At least you have an excuse!Hey, Steve I was asked recently this question, found it pretty funny?
"How does it feel, you know - down there?" "OK" I said "But it's lonely".
"Does it effect what you do?" - "No, I just spend each day walking aimlessly around in circle's"
- Sounds a bit like the HcW24-hour "Aimlessly sailing around in circle's that is?"
All for a good cause though, all for a good cause???

Hey H, it's obviously why I'm so bad at official stuff, because I'm crap at going around in circles! It's like this Steve, to do anything official you must go around in circles so that you can have permission to go around in circles.
I reckon I've got them sorted but I'm getting dizzy in the process??

Heaven, of course you know you are not alone in wanting a dark race, and all those who enter will appreciate your efforts.Looks like in 2007, we're looking to purchase equipment for Cancer treating hospitals, as we're finding Charities, whilst well intentioned, are predominately asking the general public to raise money to keep them in jobs. Would rather see the $$$ go straight into Oncology nuts and bolts.

The type of things they've done thus far is mobile DVD players in Chemo day patient rooms - sure beats looking at the walls or reading Womens Day for 3-4hours. Nice Idea.
I hope this helps.
Aw gee .... you mean I don't have to read each Womens Weekly or Womans Day issue on about 10 consecutive visits? ...... :-)
Thanks HCW - hope all the planning's a coming together .....

So what do you think OzRick, work for you the DVD idea??
There is of course a heap more that could be done - a Public Radiotheropy Machine for the Central Coast is high on that list.
DVD nice, but machinery is really the need - I was lucky that the radio machine was only 25 minutes from home - my heart goes out to anyone who has to travel for a "cooking" session. Unfortunately, it's one of those things you need experience of before you can pass judgement, and there is no-one I'd wish the need upon.
Keep up the good work ....
cheers
Rick

My heart goes to your wife and kids .....
Beds is a goodie too .... I guess what I meant was DVD's are nice, but they don't keep us alive as such .... can't believe the beds cost $30k+, but that's what they tell me in Brissie .... for that I'd want traction control and turbo .... :-)
I'm doing okay - chemo in the morning, then up to Hogs for the fun for a few days .... looks like we're having an SA gathering at some stage .....

Steve, sounds like you couldn't hear yourself think - great to watch though??Hey HcW,
24hr on LBG, that would only be about 2 circles!
Nowadays, in the modern era, we are allowed ob's to get out and back. Getting out sometimes takes a bit longer, like yesterday we had a lovly little airshow on over the lake. We had the best seats, Roulettes, Meteor, F111, balistic F18, Chinook, over the mast.

Do not know about self righting for the other classes but can provide you an IMS Certificate for the 11: Metre Class which shows a stability index of 104.The cast and Crew of the "Heaven can Wait" 24 - hour welcome Tracy Maguire Real Estate as the Races first official Race Sponsor.
We also have 4 prospective Corperate Sponsors set to confirm there involvement over the next 2 weeks.
All in all a very exciting time as the "Heaven can Wait" 24 - hour Yacht Race is well on our way to reality - and thank you to all of you thread posters.
Very surprised how many Corporate site - see'rs visit SA, and even moreso this Thread.
Just to keep the interested parties up to speed with current developments, I'm close to getting "dispensation" with respect to the HSF haul - down. Yachts not complying with the YA's NSW Cat 5, self - righting or bouyancy requirements, Yachts may apply to the Race Organisers MPYC for Dispensation from that requirement, providing all boats comply with additional personal and onboard equipment.
This Dispensation is to assist the following Class examples:
Adams 10 - 11MOD - Etchell with O/B - E7 - T7 - Sportsboats - Soling with O/B - Trailerables - J24's - S80's and small keel boats not stability rated.
The organisers of the "Heaven can Wait" 24 - hour hope that on the granting of "Dispensation" from the Haul - down test, more Yachts may be encourage to enter.

Vivace is meant to be in the hands of the deposited owner Sorro next, not Lanson's sailing buddies , tho the whisper is that they would be wise to deliver it in top shape poste-haste and transform it from the long-running 'bog plug' they have created.Be nice to see "So What" and "guided Missile" running around with "Stealthy" during the 24-hour - maybe make a proper go of it and get "Vivace" down here as well, what do you think Lanson???

its only the older mk1 Ffifteens that might sink, or the ones without foam in the bouyancy tanks that might sink. at the last viccy ff states, most (all maybe) of the mk1 f15's pulled out cause they had a shitload of water in them (some were floating like 1-2 inches below the water (they got towed in).SO how are you gonna ensure stability or 5N for J24 , Solings/ FFiftenn/ etchells/ Star/ 5.5m/yngling/ Sw Dart, I mean boats that TRULY leave their crews behind to die alone by drowning ?? as the crew drift to the bottom in sympathy with the lead powered shitter.

next year, i might be able to make half models for you (probably learning how to make them this year), i would do it at just above cost price, like $5 above. While I think of it, anyone know where I can get some Miniature Cannons, think 1st place would like them better than a trophy??
Posted 28 August 2005 - 09:34 AM
might it be aidnaks (if you can read it backwards)!A representative from the Large European Organisation contacted me Via the UK, to Sydney to Melbourne, regarding the "Heaven can Wait" 24 - hour, and although they couldn't get anything in place before the October 06 kick - off they expressed a desired interest to give the HcW their support for subsequent annual Events.
I'm sorry about being somewhat coy about who they are, however I've been instructed at this point just to ponder this suggestion. Put it this way Geelong Race Week may establish things in 07.
The type of things they've done thus far is mobile DVD players in Chemo day patient rooms - sure beats looking at the walls or reading Womens Day for 3-4hours. Nice Idea.
I hope this helps.

Julian,Oops, there goes the Flying 15 vote.Race minimum LOA is 20 feet, so flying 15's are asked to please stay home.
Great boat the Flying 15. I learnt to sail in it at the ripe old age of 5! The designer, Uffa Fox, originally did the Flying 15, and the Flying 35, and I think the Flying 25 and 30. Back in the old days, we had a Flying 35 around Pittwater. Memory again, the 35 was called Dookerpak. The 8 metre Pakerdoo was up and running then, same owner. Chris249, I can't remember the owners name - help me!
However, to use HCW's language, MY POINT IS all those numbers after the Flying are the Length Water Line of the boat. The Flying 15 has in fact a LOA of 20 feet!!
Posted 29 August 2005 - 11:21 AM
mm, i have a slight problem, flying 15's are 20ft loa, 15 on waterline, so they would fit in that rule.Race minimum LOA is 20 feet, so flying 15's are asked to please stay home.
