"All sails shall be set with their heads in close proximity to the mast."
However, see the Oxford English Dictionary (per IACC rules) for the definition of "set" and of "close proximity." In 2003 the official IACC rules intrepeter determined that "set" refers to the act of "setting" a sail; as differentiated from "flying" said sail. OED suggests that "the Moon is in close proximity to the Earth."
So you tell me; is anyone playing with kites for the 2007 AC?
No Rumours

I think all AC teams will be using North upwind inventory.... if they have sense...
#60
Posted 17 June 2005 - 03:37 PM
Do you work for North?.Well I hear Des McWilliam is making some kites for an AC team, so I guess the UK/Halsey Vs China/LeDefi is the correct answer.
I think all AC teams will be using North upwind inventory.... if they have sense...
It is the design that is most important, and if the designs are in house to each team, and not just North designers, I think it would be good for the sport to see some some Fusion M or Ultra etc on the water.

yeah, maybe so. and mixing north sails with southern spars you get what? an equatorial boat? hehehe.forgive me for possibly sounding a bit uninformed and/or stupid, but i thought North Sails had an agreement with Southern Spars over if its a Southern rig than they use North sails.....Dont most of the boats have rigs built by Southern?

well, Alinghi won the last America's Cup using a Hall Spar so I wouldn't assume that's a given......forgive me for possibly sounding a bit uninformed and/or stupid, but i thought North Sails had an agreement with Southern Spars over if its a Southern rig than they use North sails.....Dont most of the boats have rigs built by Southern?

wasn't the north sails monopoly the cup that TNZ won two cups ago. Thought the Omohundro mast wouldn't accept anything but a custom North luff tape. I could be wrong though....forgive me for possibly sounding a bit uninformed and/or stupid, but i thought North Sails had an agreement with Southern Spars over if its a Southern rig than they use North sails.....Dont most of the boats have rigs built by Southern?

as a matter of fact it comes from Norberto "Norby" Mühle and my avatar is the chinese ideogram for thunder, which happens to be my nickname (in portuguese, since i'm a brazilian sailor, "trovão") among my sailing community due to, let's say, the "tone" of my voice.Funny NorbyMuhle whatever that means, your avatar looks like the MahJong tile for "north" hmmm.....

Hi,
I think it's the Germans! They recently startetd their training with old sails. If they had subscribed with North we would have heard it in GER! Maybe its Sobström 'cause Jesper Bank worked there in former times. Maybe it's Quantum, 'cause Albert Schweizer is the Local Hero in Hamburg where most of the German AC stuff is is situated.
>The local hero Albert does not sell Quantum sails any more, and it was often wise to do things different from others to get a chance to improve.
