Ok, this guys are very well known and respected in Spain, I would like to know if they actually get any recognition around the world (I know they do professionally but how about among the rest of the world's sailors?)

Have you heard of these?:

Roberto (Chuny) Bermúdez de Castro
Javier Gándara
Pedro Campos
Gonzalo Araujo
Jan Santana
Jose María Lastra
Jordi Calafat
Toño Gorostegui
Juan Vila
Guillermo Altadill
Felix Gancedo
Laureano Wizner
Jaime Arbones
Any of the Doreste brothers...

I'm really curious about this... ;)

Thanks

I've raced Jordi Calafat in the 470s (a few years ago). An absolutely brilliant sailor, top class.

Raced against Pedro Campos in ILC 30's - but he has raced (and won) in just about everything going.
Juan Vila is a navigator - currently with Alinghi IIRC, but was also on illbruck....

Was part of the spanish comm cup team in 2002 - I'm sure I raced with some of these guys then....

Well if you don't know the name Guillermo Altadill, you haven't been following any of the big Whitbread/Volvo or Round the World Record attempts too closely...

and you yourself seem to have forgotten Echavarri and Paz who are doing pretty well in the Turkey boats at the moment....

Well, actually I didn't forget them, they are locals here and although they have just won Tornado Worlds this year, I was thinking more of the top big boat sailors with bigger achievements (imho) Like Chuny for example, he's been in two AC challenges, two round the world races, he´s won the Copa del Rey twie with Caixa Galicia, and now he is doing very well with the TP52s in the Med. He will also be driving along with Torben in VOR70 Brazil 1...

Altadill of course has sailed 6 Round the world races. Very good sailor.

For me one of the greatest is Javier Gándara, now semi-retired (he is a sail maker too) but he gets little to none recognition here.

thanks

heard of almost all of them.
chuny is doing vor aboard brasil 1 with torben and the rest of the bunch, so i consider him "almost" brasilian. just kidding.
pedro campos' a very well know sailor all over, as jordi calafat and toño gorostegui. juan villa is a hell of a good navigator and guillermo altadill was going to do the vor on brasil 1. doreste brothers kick arse. as a matter of fact the amount of well know top spanish sailors is growing really fast. congrats.

los hermanos Doreste muy buenos tambien. Varios de ellos son los mejores de españa y suelen estar bien pagados por el rey en el BRIBON

Thanks everyone, yesterday the Principe de Asturias ended and as usual Pedro Campos won (no surprise here) and the prince himself got second (with Fernando Leon on board...), we did badly on the IMS 670 class (lousy 9th), we didn't expect to win because there were 5 professional teams including World Champion of the class, Sergio Llorca. and we are amateurs but with a 12th, a 13th and a 15th, we DID SUCK!!!

Anyway and besides the weather, it was a fun weekend of racing, great boats and great sailors (P. Campos, Jan Santana, Javier Gándara, G. Araujo, Fernando León...)

And we have another big race next friday... Desafìo Audi.

BTW, Any of the Spanish speakers here is actually from Spain? How many anarchists are Spaniards?
