too true. However all the plastics,carbon fibres, epoxys, aramids, etc that we love on our sailboats are oil derived

And Cotton? Perhaps we can recycle a small percentage of the materials we use in stuff like computers, shoes, etc. to make sails. Or maybe it will need to be more than a small percentage, given that all those people on pwcs and stink pots will be getting sailboats. Perhaps we can use wooden oars to row our wooden rowboats and paddles to paddle our dugout canoes. I can't wait! (really!)

So, with this as inspiration, perhaps this is the time and place to initiate the Home Depot Boating Challenge discussed last year (?).

A fixed budget and it all has to come out of a Home Depot.

Then we work out a course. Just water for this one.

One of them parks outside my office, sometimes when it's raining.
It'd take a whole lotta work to get one of them to float. Though I can see scope as a land yacht. belatedly, maybe that is what you meant?

Great TV! "Mythbusters" in the states fills some of the Top Gear void.

Coast Guard over here would have had a FIT if they drove that floating barn into a lake. Here's your summons and cleanup bill. Leaking oil, antifreeze, and diesel; I expected to see an oil slick as soon as it hit the water.

Also surprised not to see the fools getting pulled out of the water right away by safety personnel; maybe they were wearing wetsuits under their clothes? Snag your pants on something climbing out of one of those, and you've got a big problem. Have to say, if that HAD happened, and the guys pops up at the last possible minute,THAT would have been even funnier :-)

The Toybota seemed very workable if only cooler heads had prevailed on horsepower. Not sure what the point of locking out the suspension was, other than to keep the wheels up. I suspect drag would have been about the same wheels up or down. No real change in surface area. Anyway, very simple execution, at least in fresh water. Would get expensive fast if you tried to do it in salt (more than once or for more than one day)...

Surprised the pickup could hold that speed, and that he didn't tilt over earlier with all the fooling around they did before they got underway. Probably because he had a pro involved in fitting and above all, trim!
