Race Day 1
#1
Posted 13 April 2007 - 02:05 PM
Charleston woke up to a rather chilly morning but sunny day. Light breeze and calm seas are the order for the day. So far forecasts are for light today, 10-20 tomorrow and blowing stink Sunday. We'll see if it holds.
All boats are out to their respective courses. Clean is apparently going out with Tim Wilkes as we had some issues with boats this morning and had to swap rides.
We'll do our best to get you coverage ala KWRW. This time Clean and I swapped places. I'm on shore to provide support for the scorers on the RC boats and he's on the water reporting.
Will get more news as races start and we get info from the courses.
Stay tuned.

We're out here now, on the North course, which is mostly PHRF stuff. A bunch of C & C type thingies just went round the top mark for the first race, the second class to the mark is the Tartan 10's, and we'll have mark roundings for you shortly. Mer's taking some pics, and we'll be getting them up as well.
Give us some leeway, we've got some teething issues but mostly it's sweet out here.

T-10's to the top mark, Niquor box is about 20 BL's ahead of the rest of the fleet. second is 30718 third is 407. Luiz will help name them in a bit.
That would be the T-10 Pegasus (30718) followed by T-10 Velocity (407)

Got to give some love to Rick Hall, the local SeaRay/Boston Whaler dealer. He took us out to the ocean course in a new Whaler 27 with twin Mercs - they're weird for 4 strokes - in-line sixes with superchargers...very sweet motors, we were cruising at 55 knots no problem. We've just switched over to a SeaPro 21 to watch the inshore boats, which sound like they're getting ready for a start. Luiz, pics, bitch!
Hey Clean don't you have a picture phone..... Post pics.....

We are waiting for some douche in a grady-white to fill his tanks with apparently about ten thousand gallons - then we're off to catch the inshore guys, who are racing. Wind's clocked around to 200-210, blowing 8-10. Not sure what's going on offshore...

Gotcha, WOODY - Mer's borrowing Saltwater Cowboy's 75-300, can't get WIDE enough!
Give it back
Use the POS that came with the camera
She'll have no problem panning out
that camera takes a monster image
Zoom on the PC then crop, post
(Why am I telling these things ???)
I mean borrow a 100-400mm Lens and get in tight
If you get to San Diego again
I'll give you a Sweet deal on a 28-200mm lens
much more what you need
(Till you are in command of your own photo boat)

CLEAN, if you get close enough to my guys at the end of the race, AND they are going to race again, could you let them know that they should be using the new BLACK reacher downwind, thanks man.....ehh, that might be too much to ask.

Posted 13 April 2007 - 07:25 PM
1) 450 - Spray, Lucas, just had a terrible hoist but they're in first,
2) Blur, Steve Kopf in second
3) Brilliant - Blank
The J/80's are mixed in here, with Outrageous in first, and with 829 and 840
Next Melges is
4) 136
5) 626 - Wireless
6) Team Gill
7) 274 Big Sky
8) 245 Riot Act
9) Fu is holding hard
10) 687 Fire Water
The rest of the J/80s are here, Angry Chameleon, then 173. Then the S2 7.9 is coming around too. It's sort of silly that the Melges are racing with these slow boats, but certainly make it more fun...

Looks like maybe one more race, but it's getting late. With sunday's forecast looking like minimum 25 knots and maybe more, I think they might really try to get in three here.

Remedy (Donovan 27), had wheels today - Rhumb Punch (with HB) needs a little more, and no more OCS's (like race 3). HB says that Remedy is going to be tough- they make no mistakes (so far) and they 've got a fast boat. He just had to go and fold some sails.
