Not big enough for a J; only about 70-80 feet. looks to be timber, or a bloody expensive fake paint job. Too much freeboard for a Square Metre boat. Overhangs too big for an ocean racer of the era. Could it be a converted or cruising 12 metre from the 30's or 40's? Hmmmm?

if memory serves me right, that is "sophie", was based in cogolin, and has a swingy keel type thing, carbon boom n mast, and a huge rig, also very hard to sail up right!!

The boat is actually called Velsheda, its a J-Class built in 1933. Built by C & N Gosport.

The boat is actually not called Valsheda.
It is not a J-Class
It was not built by Camper and Nicholsons in Gosport in 1933
And no, No more questions.
About three weeks ago Valsheda was moored almost opposite this boat.
Valsheda has a blue hull and is a lot bigger.
Valsheda also does not fly a British ensign.

You boys need to study up on your classic yacht designers, and the old rules.

Bacchant was a Square Meter rule boat from Scandinavia. They tend to have less freeboard, less weight and less sail area.
It doesn't look like a Meter boat (12, etc) much longer overhangs.
It does look like the international rule boats (J, P, M, R, etc) with those long bows, etc.

Very pretty anyway!

If you go to the Giles Martin Radget site and look at the classic yachts, superyachts etc., you can see its none of the boats listed there, not Velsheda and none of the others yet named on this thread.

There was another photographers site linked from the front page or maybe one of the forum threads a few weeks ago and this boat was on that site shown tied up at a quay. (there's a euro term for you)

I don't have time to look for the site, but if you want the shirt, find that site.

I am late to the thread - winner already here. We viewed this boat on the dock in Valencia, what a treasure - it actually went out to spectate and looked like a train once it got going upwind.

Hoek Design was a good idea, they have a project running with Holland Jachtbouw (http://www.hollandjachtbouw.nl/), the 62 metre schooner Athos. But that beast wouldn`t fit the picture. But indeed it might be one of their earlier projects, but the "owner" section on the websites are secured with a log-in. To bad. I`ll just pull on my sweaty stinky old shirt.

There is also the possiblity the it is a Proper Noun and is the character of one of the cousins on the Adams Family television show! Or the name of a T-10 in the area.
