anyho can anyone tell me how to make a hull shell out of balsa and resin over 4 existing bulkheads that will just lift off. its only 30.5cm long so it shouldnt be to hard. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

The smaller, the more difficult for this kind of stuff......

Have a look on my blog (in signature). There is a page for models, and you'll find in the middle of these albums a part where you can see the method I use to build the skeleton and the shell of RC boats. Simple, but you must be very careful with all alignement and symetry aspects !!!

Good luck

try carving the hull shape out of foam and laminating the balsa over the foam. you can either use a mold release wax or just carve the foam out after the resin has cured.

There were 2 canting keel models at Hamo this year.
One was a scale of Wild Joe and the other a scale of Wild Oats 10.
Both were fully functional.

For the construction of wooden hull, i put some pictures below.
I hope it is clear enough to understand the right process

Good luck

So for an un-cored carbon skin hull, you shouldn't need as many bulkheads as pictured, right?

They are just stations/shadows to maintain the form for strip laying. Most if not all will come out and be replaced in key location... or so I would assume.

all the frames (correct terminology) that are removed after the hull is built are called mould frames, the rest are frames, and generally a frame will have a beam across the top as well so that it is stronger

Next step : buidling of the mold

On the wooden hull, I made a complete finish with gloss paint, then several layers of wax, and then epoxy/glass lamination.
Once it's hard, you split it, and you have a mould ready for production.

With this model, I kept the wooden model as sailing hull, so I took off most of the frames to save weight and I kept the ones necessary for keel and rigging reinforcements.

Pictures will talk by themselves

Here is the wooden hull after lightening a little bit.

You will see also a GRP/Carbon hull laminated "classic" way in the mold, for leisure VRC.

At the end, you'll see my racing boat, done with vacuum bag and epoxy/carbon lamination. 300 gr. for the bare hull.
