Russ and Jerry are reading this thread, just make your suggestions. I think it's better than "just a tease" but there is still a lot to be done. The point of the exercise is to figure out how to make it as perfect as possible for fans of yacht racing, and to keep the equipment requirements very minimal. What ION should do is put a dotted line displaying separation distance, and then a dotten line from each bow to the next mark. Then a arrow at the comittee boat displaying wind speed & direction. That would be the shit. This is just a complete tease....
Sorry - 45 seconds ahead at the mark - not 30 BL's. I'm relying on spotters for much of my info, and my bride left me for a faster boat.

A little late know, but look into streaming audio or video for events such as this. Kepp it less of a professional production and more Gonzo in complete SA fashion. Then the servers would burn up. All good just he same.

The problem with streaming is that it only works when the connection is reliable - which it pretty much isn't at most events we've been to.A little late know, but look into streaming audio or video for events such as this. NO!!!! Did I just give you a big head? Clean what you are doing is exactly what this sport needs, less of a pro production, smaller venues, and more live in the thick of it. BTW, a satellite feed to the local server would solve most connection issues.
Something like ion with a video split screen would be cool.

Clean--why do I always need to hit the refresh button to see the progress of the race? I get it really nice & in 3-D, but no progress, then I have to hit refresh, then hit the 3-D and zoom in all over again? Anyone else have this problem?
Have the same issue - seems to get worse with zoom & 3D. Best luck so far is using mozilla in 2D mode & only zoom to 1KM

Thanks for noticing. Mr. Clean is feeling a bit under the weather - 8 days without a full night's sleep will do that to ya.Mr. Clean was much better on day one! Kinda outa it today.
Youtube takes a few minutes to process videos, I put the link up when I post them, but the link doesn't go live for 5 minutes or so.
Interestingly - if Heartbreaker were to win the next race, the teams could agree to go in, then leave monday as a single, winner-take-all race. I don't think they'll go that way, but it'd be a fun twist. We'll see what happens shortly.
I'll get the whole start on this video, ya whiny bitches.

Agree, 2 D is the way to go. I am finding that the updates stop after a few iterations, even when I leave the zoom alone. I think the default zoom should be on the order of 300-400 meters... That way you see the whole course and can get a better idea of the positioning.
Also, I noticed on the weather legs that when there's an update some of the existing courses (the red / blue tracing lines) seem to change as well. Can't figure out why this might happen. I didn't have the focus on either of the boats (where the application keeps that boat in the middle of the screen.)
I appreciate the efforts being made to get the job done... Thanks for being there!

I lost interest in Sailing Anarchy a few years ago, but ths OTW forum and your coverage has brought me back. AWESOME coverage: the commentary, photos, videos, and live tracking have been great.
Thanks for pulling this together. The organizers of the Canada's Cup owe you some gratitude for bringng this regatta to the masses.
Great racing, too. I expected Honour to struggle with the wheel (especially on the start), but that doesn't appear to have limited them too badly.

Clean, probably a small correction but... I thought it was first to win 5 races not 4. If HB wind the next race they make it a 3-3 tie and would still have at least 2 races to go. Not a "single winner takes all race" tomorrow.
Unless, of course, I'm wrong...

I know that the rules do not specify this - the rules, in fact, specify that a minimum of four races is required to have a match. The competitors can choose to do most anything if they agree to it.
Exciting start - i'll let you guys watch it shortly. Big split, lots of separation, HB to the left, Honour to the right.

Quick comment - my boy BT at Torreson Marine in Musketucky personally supervised the bottom job that Heartbreaker had in preparation for this event. Brian said that it was the most incredible bottom job he's ever seen. Torreson donated much of the cost of the bottom job to the Challenger team - and I'm too much of a slacker to get their logo on the website yet.
So two things: 1) If you want a real Grand Prix bottom job on your race boat and you're in Lake Michigan, it is damned obvious that they are able to make a one-design boat blazing fast (if rules allow) and 2) BT - e-mail me a Torreson logo for the site. Thanks.

30 second lead to Bob and the boys at the mark. Bouncing Honour to the right was the right move, and it still looks like HB just has more upwind speed, and hence, options.

OH nice mr clean..... now lets put this into perspective..... Honor leads 3-2 at the moment and your selling bottom jobs for HB... hmmm. So u really think your boy at torreson has somethin do do with HB's performance?..... careful now cuz u torreson and HB may be eating some crow

Excellent suggestion. I can do the line drawing part without problems. The difficulty is figuring out which buoy is "next" an keeping tit all in sync. Right now it's a bit complicated when the far buoys change in the middle of the race. I'll see what I can do about the wind data. What ION should do is put a dotted line displaying separation distance, and then a dotten line from each bow to the next mark. Jerry and I are already discussing how to display such things for the next race.

From the squiggles it like Honour is ahead halfway to the first mark with Heartbreaker right on their ass.
Did Clean fall off the boat? Too bad, he does nice work.
Anyhow, yeah, it looks like it. Honour looking to round the first ww mark in the lead...
It'll be DARK at 7pm, so this is likely it for the day -- go Honour!
Does anyone else find that the tracking is really hogging system resources? If I close that tab I'm OK but the whole computer really bogs when it's open (not very new computer, but it didn't do this until today...)

This 'marks to starboard' thing is weird -- but yeah, looks like a 40 degree right shift. It's a drag race now until they get the next ww mark moved -- hope it doesn't shift more -- WAIT -- a new mark just appeared and is moving up the course (on a crash boat?)

The Race Committee somehow "missed" it, even with both competitors reaching, pole on the headstay, for the entire "downwind" leg. All a big infuriating - a one-tack upwind and a zero-tack downwind does not a match-race make.
Great start sequence, HB won it by a bit, but the shift made it all academic.
