Hi everyone,

Posted this in the main forum, but told i would have more luck here.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use Tacktick Micronet intruments with B&G deckman software. Has anyone done this before?

Or is there other software which works better with the tacktick system?

Also, I'd love to hear some examples of your setups and how they benefit you.

it will with a "limited" set of functions; however the most important ones will be there. Mostly it depends on the NMEA sentences the instruments put out.
you will be able to trend data, run polars, optimize routing, some of the w/l featrues.

Not really "limited" at all, in NMEA mode Deckman is fully functional and you can use the Deckman internal calibration to come up with a much better wind direction than you could ever get with ticktack alone.

The only thing you miss out on would be the ability to send calculated functions back into the instrument system for on deck display as you can with a B&G Hercules Performance system.

Deckman, in NMEA mode uses the raw NMEA data from the instruments for it's own internal calculations. Also, standard 4800 baud NMEA will be much slower on your machine than B&G H-link which runs at 115K baud. Otherwise Deckman will work just fine.

He is trying to sell you Deckman <_< :) no just kidding Bob is great guy and sometimes too smart he was right on target descriving my "limited".

Thanks for the reply Bob. Thats the sort of answer I was hoping for.

Just another question, Is it possible to manually calibrate the instruments more accurately using deckman's data?

This is a timely post for a related thread I started Programming TackTick Custom Displays - I guess it depends what measured parameters you want to calibrate. I know for the MN100 series dual digital displays, TackTick offers calibration for: speed offset % (adds or subtracts this to measured paddlewheel speed), sea temperature, wind angle (fixed offset), wind speed (% of measured), compass offset, magnetic variation, magnetic deviation, depth offset (for keel or waterline correction)

What is NOT available for calibration internally to MN100 series displays is seperate speed offset for port and stbd tacks (this IS available internally to TackTick Maxi displays).

I assume that Deckman will be able to provide additional information for calibration, polars with target speeds, etc. I don't know what information Deckman outputs via NMEA to display on the TackTick custom pages available. TackTick would require some custom sentances pushed over the NMEA I/F from Deckman. Perhaps someone familiar with Deckman could comment if this is done.

It isn't too hard to do and as you mentioned elsewhere, there are custom Tacktick sentences to do this. There are 4 channels for custom data.

We cal the data in Exp and then send it to these custom channels.

Note that it doesn't necessarily work for all displays and the update rate isn't as quick as some would like.
