There is a comparable yacht for sale in Bristol, RI for $220K. Asking $250K would be ambitious bordering on ridiculous, but not completely insane. Yachtworld has some of his sister ships from 140K to 220K, though boats priced in non USD aren't really direct translations on Yachtworld when it comes to figuring values.".. he comes into my home and takes pictures of my boat "

His value of his boat is probably as inflated as his ego; I suspect that $25K refers to the "special" deal the Swiftsure folks have offered him after begging for years to list such a pristine specimen for half a mil.
So the question is if being owned by certain "special" types of owners can add value, what does being owned by a self proclaimed cruising guru and pseudo-engineer do for it?
Based on some of the engineers I've sailed with I'm not so sure that would merit an increase, though having to figure out WTF they were thinking with some of the stuff they did might merit a discount.
I wonder why Magnus changed his mind.

Well, when he first showed up on CSBB, he described it as a $300K boat, and that was before his thru-hulls had been double-clamped, head-hoses replaced multiple times, and teak-decks recaulked by a Beauty Queen...
He's always made much of the fact that he paid cash for SEQUEL, perhaps that would help explain the generous financing terms.... ? (grin)
There's no question the boat has seen a rigorous maintenance schedule, however.... How many boat-owners would skip their father-in-law's funeral, for example, because it was time to re-varnish the cockpit coamings?

you got caught by the week then off to the doublepress blog but as you say, for Daniel a week is a very short time. Probably about the same time as the periods between each pill!!
I wonder if swiftsure would really want to sell the boat if they new that BB had been writing posts insupport of the owner when it has such poor quality electrics from the factory and the unknown heritage of the winch service parts.
He's removed the post about SVGW. The shark didn't bite so its on to the next victim.
If I was using my blog as the for sale sign it probably wouldn't be ideal to be ranting on and then directing people to here.

you don't have a blog, you don't have a boat, and as far as I can tell .. you are a juvenile. when you graduate from high-school, check back. to cower under anonymity in a cruising forum, disparaging a stranger .. I guess you are the big man on campus.
you are wasting my time .. and that of others. have another brewski briartrtpd.., keep those sailing dreams alive, and fire off another salvo. may I dare say I think you are a very, very silly man boy.
I'd suggest a new hobby for you there in Australia. crocodile wrestling comes to mind, or sailing a real boat.

Prices in the PNW tend to be more expensive as the cost of transporting the boat here has already been factored in. This is, admittedly, a rather broad generalization, but you get the point.

Lad has a strange notion of what constitutes "intelligence", is all I can say...
If finding himself banned from the only two internet sailing forums he has participated on to a significant degree is a reflective of intelligence, then our Favourite Pelagical Iconoclast is packed to the gills with it, that's for sure...

Yep, I've fallen off the wagon. The target thing is pretty funny. And I still think DT is missing the obvious: yes, his hit counter is going up - I know while he is posting idiotic stuff I am willing to check it to see what the latest is from his warped brain - but I also check Dilbert and Doonesbury daily, and not for sailing advise...
So - let's see - first it was "yes, I'm quickie2 and I've been cast out by the evil Bob Perry wailing to Mr. Clean", and then somehow quickie2 is some poor innocent caught up in this fight between the massive intellect of DT and the collective dumb of CA... Here's a hint DT, I clicked the "report" button, and I'm willing to bet I wasn't the first, nor the last.
Anyway. Good luck selling the boat DT. Hope you can happily make the transition back to dry land, and stay there...

Anyway. Good luck selling the boat DT. Hope you can happily make the transition back to dry land, and stay there...
You know, we could be witnessing a trivial bit of history, being played out here...
this could be the first time, ever, that a seller's internet postings might be used as bargaining chips during the negotiations of a pending sale... and given the same consideration as would a saturated deck core, or poor engine oil analysis, or any other flaw or defect that surfaced during the course of a survey....
"OK, sure, the head-hoses are brand new.... but, here, read this one... Clearly, for the past 4 years or more, this boat has been in the sole possession of a stark raving Lunatic....!"
He's not a particularly clever dectective, trying to divine the significance of your screen name, is he Sculp? You'd think a set of Lat/Long coordinates might send an ex-airline pilot and guru of astro-navigation in the right direction, but "apparently" the best he could come up with is the dictionary....

No disputing that DT hasn't bit the dust at times.
Its just like on days like yesterday -- and now, today, as well -- he seems to be piling the shit on his cart ever higher and you can see the wheels wobbling under the strain but they never quite fall off.
Its like a six-year-old on a sugar high zooming around and announcing breathlessly, "I'm gonna be a fireman!", then "I'm gonna climb a mountain!", then, "I've got the snazziest bike in town!", then, "I'm gonna be a fighter pilot!", then, "I'm gonna build the coolest tree-fort!"

So why if you are going to take delivery of a brand new HR 54 would you include items such as (3) M88 Icom handhelds in the sale of the old boat? Most folks keep that sort of item.....unless they are getting out of sailing of course.

Yesterday, DT was criticizing briar's spelling:
"only a few spelling errors ... needs improvement, but improving."
Then he goes on to inappropriately use the possessive form (economy's) instead instead of the appropriate plural form (economies):
"the economy's of many countries are stretched and everyone is worried and hesitant."
If DT can't keep possessive/plural forms straight in his head, then I wonder if Danni-boy even has the mental facilities to appreciate the irony in his own words.
Spelling, these days, is just a simple matter of paying attention to the spelling checker. Proper (or improper) use of words originates in the head.

...a country's economy <-- a singular country posessing a singular economy
...many countries' economies <-- plural countries possessing their respective plural economies.

No worries, Matt -- he's been reported and he'll be punted quicker than a hyperactive snot-nosed kid can draw a rocketship in a sandbox with a stick...
The rest is just amusement (however sick) for us...

Actually, an economy can encompass multiple countries.
Yes, perhaps -- but that idea is so far removed from the original statement as to be irrelevant.

Mr. Roper,
I have read the Doublereef blog this morning and found some very interesting information on sailing. Raymarine has launched a new line of instrumentation, and me and my wife are anxious to view his video of sailing across the Straits. We would love to own a 42' sailboat, someday, and don't have a clue about this Class B AIS instrumentation. We think it would be fun to watch and learn something.
Unfortunately, I have also spent the morning reading your own contributions and they have brought us nothing. If anything, they have been contrary to the spirit of helping sailors.
Q2
Mr. Quickie,
How did you know my name is Mr Roper?
Oh, wait...
I applied to subscribe to your blog under the name of O.G.Roper.
Bye, bye, Danni...

You know, when *my* two-year old deliberately breaks something, we don't keep fixing it. Eventually, we tell her she broke it, she knew she was breaking it, now she can fix it herself.
I wonder if Ed isn't tired of flicking DT accounts created to respond to the children here. You broke it, children, now you fix it yourselves. Except the rest of us will have to put up with it, too.

February 10th:
"I am quickie2 ... temporarily
yes, I was flicked from SA. Bob Perry and his skewed sense of propriety contacted MR. CLEAN with the sophomoric ultimatum that it was 'him or me' or else. well ... I lost. apparently R. Booth and myself were banished to the deep, dark depths of Cruising Anarchism for thirty-days. it's a couple of mouse-clicks and you re-register. I don't get it?
it's like giving an algebra test to Jon Eisberg, when we all know he has the answers scrawled on his wrist.

Compares interestingly with the denial on February 11th:
"I feel bad though .. that someone named Quickie2 was summarily dismissed. banished from the CA forum on a whim and a hint. such an easy target though .. but then, Jack Tar himself exposed him, not me. or her .. I don't know. it wasn't me .. but this game is easily played through.
sorry Quickie2. it's just a game. re-register with a new name and try again. I do want to thank you however, as you've managed to raise my hit-counter by 40,000.

I'm fully in awe for the careful staging of the cruising route book (the one he doesn't really need, except for dreaming), the piccie machine and the jaunty cap, he ain't yet on par for a director's oscar, but for staging and propping he can be shortlisted in the 5th grade oscar division.
And now it becomes clear why he needs that new yacht so badly ... there isn't any place anymore to cram any more 'lectronics, it's so jampacked that it's silly, brings up memories of the radio cabins in the good old days on cargo's, where on earth is the morse key ?
Me thinks the term "non-disclosure agreement" has also just gotten a totally new significance ... for eons I was staying bodaceously tooned for the goodies he was announcing, lo and behold, all of these items have been announced and shown on various boat shows and mags on this side of the pond already for months now. Leaves you to think why -if there would be any truth in his gaymarine consultancy claim- they would insist on keeping him schtumm for a good while after starting to flog the goodies

His need for two backups of most electronics speaks volumes about his over-reliance on them. He should really think about selling one of his GPS plotters and investing in a package of pencils and some paper charts. Toss in a hand-bearing compass, a watch, some dividers, triangle protractors, a Light List and US Coastal Pilot, and he should be good. Oh, and maybe a copy of Dutton's 14th Ed. so he can learn how to use all that, and a copy of Bowditch. I wouldn't trust him with a sextant. Sadly, none of these items appear in his videos.
Electronic toys can be fun, and I'd even go so far as to say RADAR is bordering on necessary in areas frequently plagued by low visibility, but triple everything? Why would anyone want, or feel the need, to transform their nice sailboat into the bridge of an aircraft carrier? Oh yeah: Insecurity.

IF he really has a C90 in the cockpit, that lends some credibility to his claim of "consulting" for Raymarine. They were officially announced only yesterday, and are not yet on the shelves. It will be interesting to see if he actually produces his cockpit video before units are available to the public.
By the way, the new widescreen units look pretty cool, but they consume about three times as much energy as the old C80. The new digital radomes consume about twice the energy in standby mode as the old radomes. The older gear is available dirt cheap now, and in my opinion it's better suited for sailboats the size of Nyquil and smaller. The old stuff lacks some shiny bells and whistles, and it certainly ain't Furuno quality, but it's fine for the limited use a real sailor would put it to. Defender has a pretty good sale on now.
I seriously question why one would clutter their yacht and drain their wallet with the AIS he's touting, when a tiny radar reflector and open eyeballs accomplish all you need. Might wanna keep the fog horn handy, too. I sail in and out of Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors every week, so don't tell me about busy ship traffic. Daniel claims radar reflectors are ineffective, but he's full of crap. Thirty years ago, we used to mark our halibut gear with 4-6" reflectors on 6-8' tall bamboo flag poles--and we never had a problem locating the gear in the middle of the ocean, in 20-30' seas and heavy rain. Our radars were late 60's-early 70's vintage Furunos, yet the flagpoles would light up from miles away. Surely the HD digital radars on modern ships can spot a 40-foot hunk of tupperware dangling a reflector from the spreader.
I miss the days when mariners had to learn and actually practice disciplined navigation, and I pity the lazy nutters who think a few electrons are both sufficient, and necessary, to get around.

Oh really??? Is there any substitute for a plotted course and frequent fixes on a waterproof and updated POD paper chart in the event of a power failure? Does he really think GPS fixes are any more accurate or reliable than visual fixes? Apparently so--hence the triple redundancy of GPS's, and his possession of chart booklets that are usually more than a year out of date before publication.
Don't get me wrong: I like gps plotters because they're quick and easy. But I always plot on real, updated, full-sized charts, and I rely on visual fixes whenever the GPS disagrees with my eyeballs.

Oh, goody. He also responded to my bit about navigation, and boasted about his love for the feel of "fine paper." Then he posted another video depicting crappy out-of-date chart booklets and a battery operated calculator that will be useless after it's first dunking in Australian wine, head overflow, or maybe even a knock-down if he dares to leave the harbor.

There's a little channel between Mudge and Gabriola Islands of VanIsle that we used to chug through frequently. The GPS plotter, while quite accurate around other parts of the west coast, would always display our position digging a trench up the beach while we were actually running dead center up the channel.

Its good to know you have great faith in the state of the world economie's''' economy's''. Certainly there is a buyer for every boat at a price and I'm sure you know how to price yours for a sale. It's just that you still need somebody to believe your price is right. But as you know theres one born every minute(a bit like yourself)

oh yes .. for the .oo1% of sailors that have taken the time to test their RADAR reflectors, may I suggest to briartrtpd.. to do a few experments, with and without a reflector. take the time to create a website or a blog, and post your results. till then .. you are just a whimpering child with a voice lost in the roar of the ocean suburbs.
Once again, the ONLY way to achieve validation as a sailor is to create your own web site or blog.

Danni-boi, that's one of the more ridiculous statements I've heard from you. If you spent even 1/10,000 of the hours I've spent peering in radar screens, you would not say that. For more than 40 years, it's been the custom and practice to use octahedral reflectors to mark and locate non-reflective objects at see. Commercial fishermen still use them today, despite the availability of higher-tech, but also more expensive and less reliable alternatives.
Think about it, Danni: The livelihoods of fishing crews depend on locating their gear swiftly, efficiently and reliably during their brief fishing seasons. Billions of dollars are at stake each year, and even one lost string of gear could deplete each crewman's share by $10,000 or more PER TRIP! They rely on them because they work very well.
They light up bamboo poles very well, and they enhance the existing reflection of fiberglass sailboats. I know this because I spent years on the water looking at the blips with my own eyeballs.

I'll be the drum major today--unless anyone else wants the job. It's raining this afternoon, and there's nothing I'd rather do than challenge this guy to make more videos for me. Meanwhile, I'll have some of whatever you're spilling.
Notice how he video'd the chart books, but not the C90W he claims to have installed in his cockpit?
Come on, Danni--proof of the as-yet unreleased C90! "Consultant," or not?

You know how some people just shouldn't be allowed to wear Spandex. DT is giving me thoughts about the validity of similar restrictions on owning a video camera. He can REALLY ramp up the stoopid if he doesn't even have to take the time to put all those hyphens in with a key-board.

You know, BJ, I'm really enjoying the videos -- did I mention how much he sounds like Weid Stowe as he's shoveling the shit?
If anything, his demonstrated mannerisms so far in the videos have confirmed -- to me, at least -- that anyone with a reasonable bullshit meter in their skulls should be able to pick up on the crap he spews -- at least in person, anyway.
<edit>
...but then, again -- look at Weid Stowe and how many people he's sucked in...

You've got to laugh. These are the comments of the village idiot that has written pages on rebuilding his head, fitting hose clamps and cooking Pad Thai.
I'll quite happily organise to send you a gun but we already know you can't even commit suicide properly

I'll bet he didn't even open the thread and read a few posts. He probably just looked at the title and rolled his eyes, then proceeded to heap scorn upon it from a distance.
In his first blog post of the day, he finishes with "off sailing ...", then proceeds to create
