The B&G instruments on our FT - which have not been working very well for the last year or so - finally quit working at all. So we busted out our new Speedpuck and three AA batteries later we had instruments! Well, at least speed and heading (along with lift/header indicators). After a couple years of constantly fucking around with the B&G's, the Speedpuck was refreshingly simple, accurate and idiot proof - key for us. Of course it doesn't give wind info like the B&G's did, but the heading feature took care of much of that. It could probably have a few more features - starting timer for example - but I'd recommend the SP for the basic data that it delivers. Check it out.

Used my speed puck this w/e in our champs, found it was great in conjunction with our tactic micro compass (due to tide). Heading feature is awesome. We won too.

Were your B&G problems with the Network or Hydra line of instruments?

I have wondered about that lift/header feature on this thing. How well does it work?
