We didn't see eye to eye politically and he was guilty of abusing privilege on occasion but if our souls transcend death I wish him well and his family comfort.

I think you mirror my personal feelings exactly. He was a sailor though, so I'll remember him for that.

Now... I just need to find an excuse to get off Cape for the next week, I have a feeling it might be a bit busy.

Far sailing Ted.

The US Senate was a much better place because you were there.

GAG!
He was part of the reason for the economy collapse! He started the most abused Gov programs in history including FLMA- Good idea but a HUGE BLUNDER as usual, ohh yeah....and walked away to let a girl die because he was scared for his carreer.
Great guy.

+1. If he hadn't been a Kennedy and gotten lightly slapped on the wrists, he never would have made it to the Senate after serving years in prison.

Having said that, while I don't agree with his politics, he did work hard championing causes he believed in. Whether that balances his cowardice and lack of character at Chappaquiddick is something for the fellow at the gates to decide.

Give him some credit for working with the past president on No Child Left Behind .

It resulted in an 100% increase in Fed funding for schools and stopped the practise of teachers passing failing grade students on to the next grade and establish base criteria and testing .

Unfortunately all the left could say {both contrary criticsms at the same time } was
1 - it was underfunded .

It increased funding 100% , yet it is never enough no matter what govt program and the costs of all govt programs always go way beyond original estimates as we all know .

2 - Bush was irresponcible in running up deficit spending -- So it was underfunded yet Bush spent too much ? You can't have it both ways .

Now that Pelosi and co have been in the majority for nearly 3 years they have set record deficit spending each year and are spending at 4 times the rate this year .

Other industrialized nations with more sound fiscal policy are already growing their economies --+.3 percent in Germany FR Japan etc YET OURS CONTINUES TO DECLINE ---MINUS .1 PERCENT DECLINE

The former president tried to reach out to the D party and its leaders in the senate like Kennedy and pass good legislation together ,--This president Obama and the poor quality of people advising him have no such intentions .

The results are damaging us all .

ACTUAL BUDGET DEFICIT OVER THE NEXT DECADE looking like $14 Trillion?

CHINA CUTS UP AMERICA’S CREDIT CARDS. “Government data released for June 2009 shows that China has begun to make good on its forecast to start reducing exposure to US government debt. This was not done for ideological or political reasons, as some may claim, but rather because of an honest risk vs. reward assessment and internal forces threatening to tear the rosy veneer from China’s economy.”

You should focus on dead girls in cars, D-Mon. Once we get to the issue of Character you start to get into some difficult territory, what with your own racism and all.

Ah, the classic Liberal response to every criticism--"The Bush Administration was worse."

Why don't you guys try to actually respond to a criticism? Thats right, cause you can't.

My opinion--

Kennedy was a classic elitist Liberal--super wealthy so it didn't matter what tax rates were; thought that government represented the solution to ALL problems. Both things I adamantly disagree with.

On TV this morning, he is being hailed as a great deal maker--working across the aisle to get things done. In the end, I am skeptical that deal making is a good thing. What we often end up with is legislation that doesn't do anything very well yet does lots of damage to lots of other things. If that is Kennedy's legacy so be it. I for one am glad he is no longer a Senator.

He was a weak and misguided man in life but not an evil man. He was a child of god (whatever that means to you) and now he has moved on. Let it go.

In that he was a legislator who took the initiative he had a better understanding of how the US was originally supposed to function than those who want an emperor as President. That transcends the political labels of the day.

I guess you are right, I will hope it was all weakness and not evil that led to his decision to leave Mary Jo.

It is irratating though that so many idiots voted someone into power to make decisions that had a history of making awful ones; just because of party and payoffs I guess?

Huh? Just because he was elected to Congress you assume he had a better understanding of what the Founding Fathers intended? Better understanding than who? And who wants an Emperor President? You got some splainin to do.

Well, I am certainly surprised that Bull, Rb608, akaGP, Baltic Butfucker, and company haven't chimed in yet and said it was Bush's Fault; but it can't be said that Ted was known to like the bush.

What they hell, I'm still enjoying coffee here, I guess I'll give it a little time.

Did any of them work a day in their life? Excuse me, did any of them need to work a day in their life? Personal dislike for Ted Kennedy aside, I did meet Rory Kennedy while my sister was attending Brown. Looks just like her father, and actuality a genuine person. at least then.
