Noooooooooooooooooooooooo...
This is the boat I got the ride on in June.

There were a couple that read anarchy on the boat & I believe (not 100% sure) one that was a regular poster so I'm hoping we hear something - looks like he checked in to SA just after midnight last night - so I'm real glad he seems to be OK.

Ditto dupape
Terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved.
Please keep any updates coming - will be glued to the laptop this weekend.

505 I hope your brother heals well mentally & physically after going thru that.

ABC news...

Two die, 18 rescued after yacht runs aground
Posted 51 minutes ago
Updated 25 minutes ago

Two people have died after a yacht carrying around 20 passengers crashed into an island off Wollongong on the New South Wales south coast early this morning.

Police say the yacht was taking part in a race between Sydney and Port Kembla when it ran aground on Flinders Island about 3:00am (AEDT).

Emergency officials received a number of distress calls and a short time later water police arrived and rescued a man from the water.

Two nearby yachts also assisted in the search for the remaining crew and pulled a 46-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman from the water.

Neither could be revived.

Paramedic David Morris says 18 other people managed to get on the island and have been winched by the ambulance rescue helicopter to Wollongong Hospital for treatment.

Mr Morris says the majority of them have minor injuries and are suffering from hypothermia.

"Obviously you can imagine it was very cold overnight," he said.

Please let those monor injuries be very minor so no one else has to go thru too much pain.

Two killed in yacht race to Flinders Island
By staff writers and wires

BREAKING STORY: TWO people have died and 16 have been rescued after a yacht overturned off the New South Wales south coast during a race.
The yacht carrying 18 people hit rocks at Flinders Island off Port Kembla early today during a race from Sydney to the island and back, Macquarie Radio News reports.

A 46-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were pulled from the water but could not be revived.

The 16 survivors have been taken from the island to Wollongong Hospital by helicopter.

NSW Police Superintendent Mark Hutchings told Sky News this morning the accident involving the 18m racing yacht happened about 3am.

"With the assistance of other yachts in the race police recovered two bodies from the water," Supt Hutchings said.

He said police found another person alive in the water and were then told there were 15 more to find.

All 18 have now been accounted for and the two dead are awaiting formal identification.

While he gave condolences, Supt Hutchings praised the rescue efforts of police, the other yachts in the race and emergency services.

"I have no doubt their prompt action saved other lives," he said

The survivors have been treated for exposure.

There was no more information about other injuries and the cause of the incident is being investigated.

More to come...

Not good at all, thoughts for all involved and for the sailing community in general.

Hope that this does not take too many people down and effect racing and the racing community further.
