Ok gang-
I have a 10 year old Standard Horz. VHF with a built in RAM at the pedestal. Crew tried to remove it (RAM) and just pulled the wire right out of the old plug. It has 7 wires/holes around the outer perimeter and 1 in the center. Here is the question: Are all RAM plugs the same? Can I buy a new one, even a Standard Horizon one< and plug it in? Replacing the nav station console mounted VHF isn't hard, but trying to re-run that RAM long cord up/through/behind/under everything will be a b....bummer. I just disected the old plug: let's just say it was probably easier built in a factory, performed by young eyes, than me attempting to sodier the wires back in place...... and which wire goes in which hole?

RAM and RAM+ use two different cables. I think a RAM+ cable can be used for a RAM microphone, but not the other way around.

If you don't need to do this now for winter sailing, wait for a boat show and just ask the guys at their booth. Or ask anyone to ask for you at the next big show that comes along anywhere in the country. Their website/online service wasn't great but in peson they were always incredibly helpful.

Thanks, Mark. Good idea.
Standard Horizon's web/phone service and help was non-existent; never heard a single word from them despite my contacts.

Next best thing would be to replace both ends of the SH socket/plug. They aren't insane, I bet they go colour to colour on the wiring. Find a plug that's fat-finger-friendly to solder, or just hardwire the bugger.

I haven't done the digging, but I'm fairly sure Standard Horizon's manuals spec the pinouts & wiring. If you can find one to cover your model.
