Way to go the Jones clan! Jeff and Carrie, sailing with their 10 yr old son Owen, are kicking all our butts! :-)

With 5 vipers on the line and a One Design start at the regatta, we're making a nice splash at this classic central TX event. People are talking about sportboats!

Forecast for today calls for likely thunderstorms... let's hope those hold off and we can get a race or two in.

It was a great regatta - at least on Sat. Today we had one long race in light and shitty + rain. Anyway, super event and i think all the vipes had a good time. One boat, new to the fleet improved through the regatta and pulled off a 2nd today (2nd by about 2 seconds and probably should have been first).

The competition was great on Sat.. lots of lead changes, i think at least two of those races had the top three boats finishing within 10 or 15 seconds of each other.

Ya schoon, i've created a monster. All he could talk about on the ride home was when our next regatta was. Didn't hurt that the folks at LCYC put on a great show.. good camping and fed us very well.

Sounds like we have at least two people looking to join the fleet immediatly, many more talking about how much fun the sportboats were having....

I think we've finally attained critical mass and should be able to stay away from PHRF fleets at most large regattas.

One quick clarification to the title of this thread - "all boats here are from Texas", not "all texas boats are here". New boat delivered to Austin, a Houston boat and a DFW boat had to miss the regatta. We have 8 in the Lone Star State, all of which should be quite active next year.

Good times

Nice one, Jeff! Family racing at its best. Did your wife drive the whole regatta?

I'm happy to hear there is another LCYC doing it right! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) They must be .com, .org, or .net, cause I had to take .info for us!

Can you email me those Viper tips you mentioned? Email is my first name at my last name dot com.

Cheers,

Jason Hyerstay

Nice, i like your style! I need to get your email address and get your on our local list - we (often) send group emails amoung the Texas guys. Right now we're putting in a group buy for some Texas Viper flags.. that kind of BS. The boys will be excited that we now have a reason to go down and do something in Corpus.

Jason - i'll send you an email tomorrow. I'm in for both Miami, Charleston and possibly the Tampa NOOD in Feb.

I hope you can make it down, the Tampa event would be a good light-air, low-key event for you to cut your teeth on.

VERY cool. Welcome to the family !!!

OK, you Texas guys. Think about coming out West when it gets hotter than Hades there. We've got the West Coast Circuit finalized and I'm pretty sure that Ultra is working on a multi-boat transportation solution!

Here's the circuit...some VERY good racing will be had.

West Coast Championship Circuit --------- Jan 15-17 :: Viper Midwinter Championships hosted by the Leukemia Cup, Phoenix, AZ. Arizona Yacht Club
Mar 19-21 :: Sperry Top-Sider San Diego NOOD, CA. San Diego Yacht Club
Jun 25-27 :: Acura Long Beach Race Week hosts the 2010 Viper Pacific Coast Championships. Long Beach and Alamitos Bay Yacht Clubs
Jul 17-18 :: High Sierra Regatta, Huntington Lake (7000' el), CA. Fresno Yacht Club
Aug 28-29 :: Sarcoma Cup, Pt Richmond, CA. Richmond Yacht Club
Sep 24-26 :: International Sportboat Anarchy Festival, Coronado (San Diego), CA. Coronado Yacht Club. Concluding Regatta and Award Ceremony for West Coast Championship Circuit.

Texas Nationals?????

Does this mean that our North American Championships in Miami in March, are open to competitors from the United States, Canada and Texas?

Seriously.....Congratulations to Swimfastliveslow......welcome to the class!

We just got back from Lake Norman at 2.30 am last night. 10 Vipers. 7 races . Lots of good times.
As we were hanging out on the end of the dock, drinking beers and chatting with our U20 buddies, we got to talking about this regatta at Charlotte Harbor/Punta Gorda on the Gulf in February.

It looks like quite a few us would like to try out this event. Beautiful location, casual informal feel, inexpensive condos to rent on the water. According to some ex-Soling sailors who used to hold olympic trials here....it is good sailing, very good RC and charming unspoilt part of the coast. So we figure some Vipes are going to enter if any of y'all want to join us. Its not any kind of championship, no prestige, no big promotion, just a neat place to get together and race our boats , trade tuning and boat handling tips, eat some good food and maybe drink a bottle of wine or three.

The East Coast Championship circuit starts in March with Miami, then Charleston in April, Marblehead in July, CORK in August and grand finale at HPDO in New York in October. So Punta Gorda is vacation type warm up. Any y'all interested?

I'm thinking a North American / CRW tune-up regatta is in order this winter. How's the weather in corpus, end of Jan or Feb? I know there will be a lot of breeze, but temps?

Who cares what temps are going to be. Wasn't it you that just told Rockhead to HTFU about it being cold? Take some of your own advice and put on some layers boy! HTFU! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

When I get home I'll post the photo of launching a Slonar amidst the ice flows to go frostbiting. Best to hit the white ones, they bounce off the hull. the grey slushie ones are like sailing through velcro. HTFU indeed. Fuck you all! Fuckin' Texans. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Sweet! I'll install them in MIA, next time I'll see the Rat... Thank You!!

I hear there's at least One container bound for Miami. I'm hoping we'll make 40...50 would be f'n awesome. Just DON'T want to split starts though. Could be some carnage at the marks, especially in the breeze.

I'm on for NA's AND CRW. I'm trying to finagle a boat for NA's. I'll crew at CRW.

You multi-hauling?

The best thing with the dolly concept of Paul's is we can load our boats onto car carriers via the dolly.

I know how Texas really considers itself a sovereign nation state that condescends to help out the rest of the US with scarce natural resources such as oil, football players, cattle and real men and women who know how to sail real boats. So they will be pleased to know that we are looking at organizing a "Pan American Viper Circuit" that will be open to entries from Canada, USA, Latin America and Texas.......and anywhere else for that matter.

Watch this spot.
