Time to retire the old cold weather gloves.

Saw the APS story in Scuttlebutt, but looking for some SA user experience and recommendations.

What gloves to you recommend?
Which do you not?
What's the best bang for the buck?

Thanks.

I forgot to also mention DURABLE.
They need to stand up to a trimmers hand.

I go fisherman style - I use cheap ($5) rubberized cloth XXL outer gloves and a removable fleece liner inside (from EMS, IQ, Smartwool, etc, $10). They are tough, have a sure grip, are totally waterproof, and they last for about 2 winters. When it gets really cold, I also carry a pair of rag wool mittens to use when the fingers (usually the thumb) starts to freeze up; they will keep you warm even if wet. Been using this system for 20 years of frost biting and offshore deliveries. The mittens do wear out at the thumbs after a while, but some duct tape will fix that.

Never tried the exotics (Gill, Harken) so I can't tell you about them.

My good bud, TimFordi550, swears by these:

Worn over some fleece liners from LL Bean and you're good to go.

Much as I ahte to say it...My cheap assed West marine gloves with teh neoprene where there ought to be something better do pretty well in somewhat cold situations.

in very cold weathere I ahve been using equipment bought in hunting sections of sporting goods stores since forever.

Even Walmart sells a pretty decent neoprene glove. They seem to last ok and for under $10 I cannot biutch at all.

While you are shopping the hunter's area, check out the neoprene socks...always cheaper there.

last...when you are cold add a hat....is true

For something under $5 you can get a knit head sock with a big face opening. Upwind you reach back and pull it over your head. Down wind you yank it back and let it hang around your neck.

Mine is at least 25 eyars old now and it is wonderfully effective.
