Ok so just like the title says, I am looking for some rig info on the 49er. in the perfect world I would like to know mast height and boom length. in an even better word I would know how far back the shrouds are from the mast. I am bastardizing a boat and I think the 49er rig would be a good fit if the numbers work out

dont have any answers for you, but you may want to set your ride up for the old 49er rigs (as they have recently gotten bigger), theres probably some around cheap

Older rigs are also AL on the bottom section. So you can adjust the height as much as you need.

Shroud sweep was about 12"

Might be worthwhile to PM bdal - he was a serious 49er sailor when they first came out, and he did a lot of work modifying the 49er rig for the original Swift Solo - he's got major experience frankenboating the 49er rig. The Swift Solo quickly left the cut down 49er behind for carbon.

Going carbon was huge. I never had the old 49er rig but the one boat I saw with one was much harder to sail Mostly in righting the boat or keeping it up right if you allowed it to heel much. An old 9er rig will be great for a turbo on the cheep thing but if you want to do it right, go carbon from the start.

If nothing else, you might be able to dig up an old and tired 9er, strip it for parts and send the hull to the dump. The funny thing is that often the boats are worth more parted out than sold as a whole.

the thing that got me was sailing the 29er singlehanded, then sailing the musto with a carbon stick. Completely different boats of course, and the musto is lighter on the whole, but the carbon stick just made the boat so much easier to keep up right (maneuvering not withstanding, and, despite what whats his name said, you can step through the racks...).

My helm upgraded the B14 at the start of the year (relevant, as the old rigs are more than a little related). What with sail development being open, there wasn't a huge performance boost to be gained, but ease of handling was- both on and (important for travelling!) off the water.

If you were in the UK (or Aus), and after an old 49er rig to cut down, I'd point you in the direction of a B14 one instead, but several thousand miles of ocean get in the way.
