In the recent 2011 Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race along Australia’s coastline, David Turton and his crew on Flying Tiger 10 “Likatiger” proved their offshore racing prowess on their way to finishing first in their PHRF division and fifth overall in PHRF. Turton and his team sailed past boats twice their size off the start line in Brisbane and even had a few encounters with larger IRC competitors, including the iconic Australian 79” Maxi “Brindabella,” as they exited Moreton Bay 50nm into the race!
David sent us a full report on his Flying Tiger and the Brisbane to Gladstone Race, covering some hairy moments in the race (a 19-knot wipeout in the black of night), the skill of his crew, his offshore schedule and the Ullman Sails inventory that helps make it happen.........Story here

About Me
For over 35 years, Ullman Sails has been devoted to helping our customers reach their sailing goals. Whether you aspire to win an Olympic medal, dominate local fleet racing or spend your summer cruising, we provide the highest quality sails and service to make it happen.
Our singular reputation and demonstrated leadership in the sailmaking industry has been proven year after year. Ullman Sails customers have a long list of success stories including Olympic medals, offshore and one-design championship titles, and devoted blue water and coastal cruisers.
The Ullman Sails group is proudly unique, bringing together individual sail lofts from all over the world that specialize in serving their local markets. With a rich combination of skilled designers and master sailmakers, we work together to ensure every Ullman Sails customer benefits from our international collaboration.
Ullman Sails was founded in 1968 by David Ullman, one of the world’s greatest competitive sailors. Dave was named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 1996, was nominated again for 2007, and is a three-time 470 World Champion, the 2007 Melges 24 World Champion, a five-time Lipton Cup Champion (1992-1996), a ten-time Lido 14 National Champion, and a National Champion in the Snipe, Thistle, Sabot and Coronado 15 racing classes. Dave is also an S.O.R.C. class-winning skipper, a U.S. Team Racing Champion, a U.S. Men’s National Champion (Mallory Cup) and a former coach of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team.
Dave is still an integral part of the Ullman Sails group. Serving as President of Ullman Sails International, he also directs the Ullman design team – a select group of sailors with equally impressive credentials, extensive experience, and sailmaking expertise. And all of them are accessible. Contact a local loft and see for yourself. In addition to a local sales rep, you could also be talking to the current three-time J/24 European Champion; an Olympic silver medalist in the Tornado class in 2004; or a seasoned offshore sailor who has competed in more Sydney to Hobart Races than you can count on two hands. We understand the importance of talking to someone who knows sailmaking. And we make sure we’re available to listen to your goals and answer your
