With that amount of heel at least the bow would be out of the water.
But, Bahrain is putting on a match racing event which has no real coverage and the front page puts 'another new Arabian venture' and links to the page of a yacht club that has been around since the 60s and then compares it to Dubai and Oman. It is also the legacy home of GAC/Pindar and start of the Mumm 30 tour.
Dubai has done very little for the world of sailing though Abu Dhabi has brought the VOR there as well as hosted a few international events. Emirates airline is basically an Abu Dhabi owned venture, though based in Dubai.
Oman doesn't even have a yacht club to link to but is doing a great job of making several Europeans much richer whilst some genuinely good Omani sailors seem to be coming out of the Lasers.
That part of the world has a great amount of potential to become, excuse the pun, a mecca for sailing between the European/American seasons and the down-under season but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of organisation and events.
Dubai should really have the money and definitely the skills but even Premier sponsors races in Aus and not on their own doorstep.
