I think one thing is that Thompson has proved himself capable again. Even though he didn't train with the french, and did his own thing. Its an improvement on his last position and this time he wasn't gifted it. Not that i think at all he didn't deserve 3rd last time, he did however benefit from another persons miss fortune. He has won a lot of fans in france too!

This time he went and pushed for first the whole way round and gave us a hell of a story.

I have fully enjoyed watching all the video's and feeds. Big kudos to all the sailors in this edition, and hats of to ALC for eventually (hopefully) sealing a 1st place. You deserve it.

I thought in that video he sounded much more strained then ALC. ALC will know exactly where Thompson is anyway because of the tracker.

Really enjoyed following this edition though, plenty more stories to be told yet too!

Damn, SOS situation for Kito :(

That makes my heart sink.

edit for english people.

http://www.vendeeglo...-kito-de-pavant

"Contacted by telephone, Kito de Pavant declared, “I hit something hard with the keel. It was a violent shock and the boat came to a standstill. The rear bearings of the keel were ripped off and the keel is hanging under the boat kept in place simply by the keel ram, which is in the process of cutting through the hull... The keel housing has been destroyed and there is  a huge ingress of water there, but for the moment, it is limited to the engine compartment. I currently have forty knots of wind and 5-6m high waves. The boat is stopped. I brought down the mainsail so that she is heeling less. The situation has been stabilised for the moment. I have my survival kit alongside me. Someone is going to have to come and get me. I am trying to contact the Marion Dufresne to ask them to come here.”

The Vendée Globe Race Directors immediately alerted the MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Center) Gris Nez to inform them of the damage and to organise the rescue.

The rescue centre has been in contact with the Marion Dufresne, which is currently 110 miles north of Kito de Pavant’s location to the north of the Crozet Islands. The Marion Dufresne is expected to reach the area in around ten hours.

More information later today."

Did anyone else see the helo vid of Beyou? Looks like hes got his gennaker stuck. Its furled but he needs to go up the mast to get it down. This explains why hes heading a bit more north as he wants to avoid that big depression heading in. Plus he has lost his "fleet" (not sure what this is) but from what i gather is where he gets his weather information.
