My Isuzu Trooper (bought new) towed the J22 well and was great for car camping when at Laser regattas. Unfortunately I got rear ended last week. The repair estimate is about the same as the "value" of the car and as such their insurance company has "totaled" it. If you have any great ideas on how to get the best deal out of the insurance company I'd love to hear about it. For now I plan to keep the vehicle and fix it, (it is drivable, but won't be able to fix it back to where it was with the settelment).
So I've been looking for a replacement, don't need the towing capacity of the Trooper but I liked everything else about the vehicle. The things I would like next are: better fuel economy (no big SUV's or suburbans), used car (like 5 years old), room to sleep in the back (room to sit up in the back would be a plus), manual transmission ( I like) and all wheel or 4 wheel drive (nice here in Minnesota).
These are my current thoughts: Subaru Wagon (may not be long enough, I'm 6 feet tall), Jetta Wagon (same problem, planning to visit dealer to test), Dodge Caravan, Toyota mini van and Honda Odyssey.
What are your experiences with these vehicles or what have you found that would fit the bill?
Thanks in adavance
