Is that you Pete?” ”What the fuck do you want you fucking traitor?” ”I was wondering if you’d like to be involved in the SGP?” ”The what, you fucking traitor?” ”The Sail GP series. We’ve got an audience of 47 Billion people” ”Ah, Nath sails in that. Says it’s shit. Why would I do that?” ”Well, it’s really good. 47 Billon people love it. It’s sailed in the AC50s. We’re expecting to hit 62knots next year, with a tail wind and tide behind us, but probably not during racing” ”Is that the ones with the joy stick flight con

  3. IYRU had made the decision to replace the Finn which by the 1960s was getting very long in the tooth. Paul Elvstrom, Finn sailor extraordinaire, proposed that a single handed trapeze boat should represent the cutting edge of Olympic racing. However the boat he built turned out to be a dog in trials organized by IYRU. At the end of the 3rd round of trials, a boat submitted by an unknown young self-educated Australian designer (who later changed his name to Ben Lexcen) was the clear winner. The decision to replace the Finn had been made. The boat (The Contender) has been selected and app

  4. 100 times this. This (subconscious) bias continues when HR people hire staff, when supervisors hand out tasks, when meetings are moderated... Nobody can tell a woman that professional choices, careers and success are mostly merit based. Au contraire, gender stereotype often outweighs merit on a professional level. Women have to do a lot better than men to get to get the same professional standing (and if they're lucky, the same pay). NB, there are exceptions and companies with good gender policies, diversity approaches and a strong employee representation out there, but they are not the norm

  5. ^Still on the band wagon myself, been pretty up front that I would be delighted by an LR win, as stated it would disruptive to the status quo (in spite of the fact that time zone wise it would not be in my own self interest). Going to make sure & keep that Ipad charged up, lady wife goes under the knife for a lung biopsy in the 1st week of March.

  6. That's your first post? No politics, no sailing, no cruising, no general interest bullshit? You choose to inform us that a low budget, made for TV mid 70s piece of crapola scared your youthful self as your first post on SA? All I can say is the pix of yours, your gf's or your mother's tits better be monumental or you may be in for a long, hard ride! Welcome home!

  7. I'd had a shitty day at work today, so I stopped off at the tiny, family run convenience store in my neighborhood to buy a bottled coffee. The nice, young Asian kid behind the counter chatted me up. He asked if I had vacation plans for the summer and I replied that I planned to take a month off and disappear on my sailboat. He sighed wistfully and said "That sounds great, I wish I could do that." Something inside me, just. fucking. snapped. In front of me, was a young, fit, able-bodied man who damned well COULD do that, if he really wants to. I looked him dead in the eye and said "Y

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. Shame

  12. So-called moderate dems (actually neoliberal corporatists) have a habit of abandoning any even halfway progressive candidates . . Dukakis, Mondale, and etc. But they insist that progressives support THEIR candidates. HRC, WJC, etc Bernie is no more scary than FDR, and has FDR-like issue positions.

  14. The thread title is hilarious: "Trump" and "the truth" in the same sentence. All civilized countries have mostly free healthcare and education for all, no death penalty, an independent unbiased supreme court, the ability to mass-produce decent drinkable beer, and no regular school gun massacres. Sucks to be a Yank.

  17. Trump supporters seem to all be barely literate. Who the fuck is Ben Ladin? I have a theory that some of them used to speak and spell English normally (for Americans, that is) but being in the right-wing Trump-slobbering camp, somehow as if by osmosis, they gradually become Joker-like, bereft of sense, spelling, or grammar. Atyourcervix, henceforth to be known as Tamponhead, only 522 downvotes to go till you hit your target.

  20. Indeed & truer words never spake, & I'll include Steam's post in the same vein. Here's what happened, hit rack early but simply couldn't nod off, would you believe I was kept awake imagining all the ramifications of A GUY's mouse vote, the ecological damage after he declared war on all mouse predators? Hell I have owned a corn snake for 20 years, I'd be in gaol on death row (I actually believe Azreal would get off lighter, all he did was destroy/eat the evadents). Anyway at around 2:30 AM gave it for a bad job, switched on the telly & decided to tackle that ballot (loving

  24. It's been well documented (see the Frontline piece I mentioned earlier) that Putin's goal was to sow discord to divide and weaken the US, helping Trump was just a bonus. Social media makes it very easy to do this by playing both sides of every issue - getting Americans to hate each other is the goal. Getting half to like the Russians for that is icing on the cake.

  25. First off, its Whisky... not whiskey, The second is distilled in Kentucky and other places of such ilk. Whisky on the the other hand was a gift from the gods delivered to my ancestral homeland. I will not wax rhapsodic about the various styles or my favorites. I like many across the entire spectrum of flavor profiles. I will say however, that there is nothing wrong at all with sharing more than a snifter with old friends and enjoying a monumental buzz. 26. Nah, vote your conscience in the primaries. I've always said that. I think trying to vote, as an individual, for the "most electable" in the primary is a fool's game akin to market timing as an investment strategy. There's no way to really know how the masses are going to move int the primaries, especially with our extremely stupid primary process. Voting for say, Tulsi Gabbard or some other 3rd party in the general is where you get to show your privilege by helping Trump stay in office.

  29. Her Trip to Rome This is something to think about when negative people are doing their best to rain on your parade.. So remember this story the next time someone who knows nothing and cares less tries to make your life miserable. A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?” "We're taking Continental” was the reply. "We got a great rate!”

  39. It strikes me that constitutes misleading and deceptive conduct under both federal and Victorian laws and as such is illegal. At the very least, SYC would have to refund the money of everyone told that mistruth. I understand penalties also apply. One might think the penalties would (or should) be enlarged if they have taken vindictive action against someone pointing out their error. From this point on, there should be no doubt they are aware of the issue. The conduct becomes deceptive if they repeat it. Even merely inferring a position can be misleading or deceptive..

  40. You did. Everyone you bring to sailing is a win, and you can't if you don't try. Two stories. 1) My uncle was a railroad engineer before he retired. The guys on the railroad are mostly not college educated, working class guys. Nice guys, comfortable but not wealthy with decent benefits. He had a friend who wanted to try sailing, and I told him to tell the guy to call me. He came out with me and loved it, but despaired about being able to get a boat himself. I gave him the "yards are full of cheap boats, get out there" speech. And he did, he bought a $5,000 boat and learned to sa
