  2. Why is there so much angst about what choices we have seen the 4 teams show so far? We have 2 groups of hull styles. Scows vs. Skiffs. Now that they have published wind limits, they now know the minimum takeoff requirement. Broad consensus (I am not including opinions posted here....) is that the Skiffs will release earlier and easier and have less detriment to having a touchdown. Lift off is not the concern that was so widely discussed here pre first B1 launch - hence why so little notice is taken of most postings here. We have also seen the publishings of various experts talk abou

  4. We also have a choice of going to many other clubs, but our dinghy classes are doing well. Why? Because the club set up a sailing school about 15years ago, very little extra cost to the parents. Often when the child learns in a dinghy , the adults take lessons too in our sailing schools 20ft Yeoman keelboats. Our current rear commodore being one of them. May to October we have up to 80 children learning to sail each Thursday afternoon evening...

  6. I honestly think the 52 media is stuck somewhere in between at the moment; they haven't gone down the 'crash bang' route of Sail GP to try and draw in non-sailors but neither are giving much actual detail for the experienced sailors that follow it. Mabe I'm way off but I really don't think their viewing figures would suffer if they added more detail to their coverage; if you watch F1 commentary there's a huge amount of technical discussion that must only be truly understood by a minority of the viewers (just head over to AC anarchy to see the circular arguments about aerodynamics...).

  9. It takes a German living in the UK for 30 years to nail Brexit. A good read. "I spoke with people in the pubs, in the fish 'n' chips shops and on the streets between drab, gray houses - people with no vision, no future and no education." "In reality, Brexit is nothing more than a huge distraction from the failures of successive governments to implement better economic and structural policies." "Open the British passport, and on the first page you will find a drawing of a compass and a ship's rope that can easily be untied before sailing off and seeking one's fortunes elsewhere.

  10. Why? the voting results I imagine. If my reading between the lines (always a highly dubious exercise particularly prone to confirmation bias) of UKLA statements is any guide, EurLCA is every bit as good at non-communication and mushroom management as ILCA. And of course setting up a new CA in secret in partnership with your commercial buddy and without any sign of consultation with the grass roots is not precisely a model of transparency and democracy. It smacks more of throwing toys out of prams. And do we remember that when throwing toys out of certain prams one needs to be ve

  12. I personally am acquainted with three Ph.D.'s who believe most of that crazy shit. It's really pretty frightening It's like if I told them that the force of gravity at earth's surface is 25 ft/sec-squared Ridiculously easily disproved by observation But they never check into the bogosity of Uranium One, the emails, the Clinton Foundation, and etc. Looking at the hate in their eyes, I think they could shoot me without much of a problem. I think we really underestimate the grievous harm that hate radio and TV have done to the country

  13. That boat was once a Star. Now it has no keel and has a sunfish bow as a "house" and a Sunfish cockpit aft of the mizzen. I am told there is a Laser grafted in somewhere. I am also told it has water ballasted lee boards as well as a forward and aft daggerboard. The aft one if just forward of the rudder. I have no idea about the rudder but I am baffled. It is a three man team. I think it is my favorite boat this year. I can not wait to see how it does.

I realized when I saw it that it was a modified banksy, I just liked the content because it made me think about it Personally I'd be more upset by lunch counter pictures and some of the death and destruction pictures that have been posted over the years but to each his own I guess.

  16. I like the guy and I enjoyed his videos but they became repetitive because he keeps doing the same thing, sailing to the same places much of the time. Yes, the "no-bullshit bullshit" was tiring. Also, watching him brag about eating shitty, canned food like it's a badge of honor was tiring. Yeah, yeah I get it- You're a Klingon. Good food and creature comforts are to be eschewed lest you not be a real warrior. The reason that I became disinterested and roll my eyes at the guy is because I've already lived my life of hardship on submarines and tiny patrol boats. Desalinator broke?

  21. Another idea for you - poke around the Mini sites on the web, find a Mini for sale in Europe, buy it, take a year off work and go rent an apt and live in Les Sables d’Olonne (or wherever the epicentre of French Muni racing is, I think there?), train/race the hell out of it (the Mini community is apparently quite tight knit and helpful/supportive there), and do the MiniTransat Race the following year —that way, you’ll have gotten the cool, fast, small sport boat to the other side of the Pond, where you live. And having crossed the Atlantic, the boat will be tricked out and proven to do Bermuda

  22. And know this because of what, your vast scientific knowledge? Or because some hate-spew asshat on riech-wing media tells you so? Here's a nice little chain of logic for you. 1- the flu has killed 18,000 USAneans already 2- the CoVid19 virus is more contagious than flu 3- the CoVid19 virus has a mortality rate approx 20X that of the flu There's more but let's not overload your little brain. Just puzzle over these three facts, and then come up with a good reason why the CoVid19 "threat is nowhere as bad as the media would have you believe." - DSK

  23. The below is my post to the Drip thread an excerpt of the Judges very own words on the matter. IMHO it’s not too hard to honestly conclude Barr has been less than forthcoming with the truth, in fact it appears he was outright bullshitting to protect the Orange Fuckwit.

  27. It shouldn't be surprising or shocking at all. There are billions of people who believe the magical impossible bullshit that makes up the narrative of most of the world's major (and minor, and just plain weird) religions. And many of them really hate anyone who disagrees. Religious wars have killed many more people than the plague, the flu, and mosquitos.

  29. if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump. All that needs be said. The shitstain has never displayed a single redeeming quality - not one, never. For a person to look at Trump and say "yeah, he's my kind of guy" is a terrible condemnation of that person. They are celebrating being a truly contemptible human being.

  30. You know what, I’m wondering if this isn’t a red herring, wouldn’t be the first one in the AC - isn’t two design teams openly tearing their hairs out before any direct comparison rather suspicious? Meaning that the theoretical advantage of mainsail hull/water seal is rather obvious, and something that could have been investigated with a fraction of any team’s CFD budget. MOF, I happen to know that this was debated by at least one of the “scow” teams way earlier than the boat launch date. Guess we’ll really have to wait for b2s ...

  36. Merlin’s are a type of boat that just couldn’t exist in the US. People who think a UFO is too expensive would never shell out THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS for a little racing boat. I was at the UK Nationals in Wales a few years ago. They were unhappy with the turn out of only 50 boats or so. There is enough demand to keep more than one shop busy. Maybe there is something to this socialized healthcare after all. England is a different world. SHC

  43. Well for me Phil things are pretty simple. "The Pie" has never been as big as it has been today. It's fucking huge - the wealth is there - all that needs to be done is some redistribution, and that is the conversation we should be having - how to redistribute the wealth. We know what the right wants - privatise everything, monetise everything. A total user pays society in which you will pay for your air, your water, the CO2 you produce, the methane out your arse, every service you can think of, - literally everything - they will charge you for it, and by they, I mean a small number who wi
