  2. Why is there so much angst about what choices we have seen the 4 teams show so far? We have 2 groups of hull styles. Scows vs. Skiffs. Now that they have published wind limits, they now know the minimum takeoff requirement. Broad consensus (I am not including opinions posted here....) is that the Skiffs will release earlier and easier and have less detriment to having a touchdown. Lift off is not the concern that was so widely discussed here pre first B1 launch - hence why so little notice is taken of most postings here. We have also seen the publishings of various experts talk abou

  4. I honestly think the 52 media is stuck somewhere in between at the moment; they haven't gone down the 'crash bang' route of Sail GP to try and draw in non-sailors but neither are giving much actual detail for the experienced sailors that follow it. Mabe I'm way off but I really don't think their viewing figures would suffer if they added more detail to their coverage; if you watch F1 commentary there's a huge amount of technical discussion that must only be truly understood by a minority of the viewers (just head over to AC anarchy to see the circular arguments about aerodynamics...).

  6. It takes a German living in the UK for 30 years to nail Brexit. A good read. "I spoke with people in the pubs, in the fish 'n' chips shops and on the streets between drab, gray houses - people with no vision, no future and no education." "In reality, Brexit is nothing more than a huge distraction from the failures of successive governments to implement better economic and structural policies." "Open the British passport, and on the first page you will find a drawing of a compass and a ship's rope that can easily be untied before sailing off and seeking one's fortunes elsewhere.

  7. Why? the voting results I imagine. If my reading between the lines (always a highly dubious exercise particularly prone to confirmation bias) of UKLA statements is any guide, EurLCA is every bit as good at non-communication and mushroom management as ILCA. And of course setting up a new CA in secret in partnership with your commercial buddy and without any sign of consultation with the grass roots is not precisely a model of transparency and democracy. It smacks more of throwing toys out of prams. And do we remember that when throwing toys out of certain prams one needs to be ve

  9. That boat was once a Star. Now it has no keel and has a sunfish bow as a "house" and a Sunfish cockpit aft of the mizzen. I am told there is a Laser grafted in somewhere. I am also told it has water ballasted lee boards as well as a forward and aft daggerboard. The aft one if just forward of the rudder. I have no idea about the rudder but I am baffled. It is a three man team. I think it is my favorite boat this year. I can not wait to see how it does.

I realized when I saw it that it was a modified banksy, I just liked the content because it made me think about it Personally I'd be more upset by lunch counter pictures and some of the death and destruction pictures that have been posted over the years but to each his own I guess.

  12. I like the guy and I enjoyed his videos but they became repetitive because he keeps doing the same thing, sailing to the same places much of the time. Yes, the "no-bullshit bullshit" was tiring. Also, watching him brag about eating shitty, canned food like it's a badge of honor was tiring. Yeah, yeah I get it- You're a Klingon. Good food and creature comforts are to be eschewed lest you not be a real warrior. The reason that I became disinterested and roll my eyes at the guy is because I've already lived my life of hardship on submarines and tiny patrol boats. Desalinator broke?

  15. Another idea for you - poke around the Mini sites on the web, find a Mini for sale in Europe, buy it, take a year off work and go rent an apt and live in Les Sables d’Olonne (or wherever the epicentre of French Muni racing is, I think there?), train/race the hell out of it (the Mini community is apparently quite tight knit and helpful/supportive there), and do the MiniTransat Race the following year —that way, you’ll have gotten the cool, fast, small sport boat to the other side of the Pond, where you live. And having crossed the Atlantic, the boat will be tricked out and proven to do Bermuda

  16. And know this because of what, your vast scientific knowledge? Or because some hate-spew asshat on riech-wing media tells you so? Here's a nice little chain of logic for you. 1- the flu has killed 18,000 USAneans already 2- the CoVid19 virus is more contagious than flu 3- the CoVid19 virus has a mortality rate approx 20X that of the flu There's more but let's not overload your little brain. Just puzzle over these three facts, and then come up with a good reason why the CoVid19 "threat is nowhere as bad as the media would have you believe." - DSK

But it's very unfair to blame Donnie for all this. It can't be easy when not a single experienced, principled professional wants anything to do with your demented and dumb-as-fuck mobster-style administration.

I know where the molds are built, I know how many deck and hull molds have been built. I know there is no ILCA contract signed or even presented to ANY of the 7 builders. I've provided facts to counter people like yourself who say 'ILCA is perfect and everything is fine' - while the building is burning to the ground. This thread is full of people spouting rumors and lies. And I'm just hear to counter the claims that people like you make - that are patently fals

  31. This is less a reflection of what is happening, and more a reflection of a set of warped beliefs. This is entirely consistent with Rastegar's conspiracy theories, both in the legal documents rejected by the courts a few years back, then repeated in the Sailing Illustrated interview with Tom E. These conspiracy theories can't possibly be true because of the actions of all parties, including Laser Performance. Perhaps we need to step back a little, and thank Blatant Echo's for his best efforts to grasp what's happening, and for his attempts to make a positive contribution to this topic

  34. Thanks for all the pics, Bravo. Sorry to see the SCA but not all that surprised. I'm not from Nova Scotia and get cold in temps below 80. I was going to go when the forecast was for only 20 knots of wind and a 50 degree night in my tent. Then it went to 25 knots and upper 40s. My plan was to drive my boat from my place to Stump Pass and back, passing through the unprotected parts of Charlotte Harbor both today and tomorrow. Just didn't sound fun, and I'm in this for the fun, not the Challenge. It's 45 at my house right now and I'm pretty glad to be inside and not loading

  37. When two parties are battling for power and public opinion is considered to be an effective tool, each side will do its very best to manipulate public opinion. A favorite: ”Our side is being absolutely reasonable. We offered a solution and the other side hasn’t bothered to respond.” Of course the “solution” offered always has been fundamentally unacceptable to the other side. You can look at virtually any conflict in history and find use of this well worn ploy. When you look closely at the press releases and public statements they all say the same thing:

STEP 1 "Set the table" by first encouraging the UK to be divorced from the UE regulatory environment - seperate it from the school. STEP 2 Entice the UK into your killing zone and start circling with smooth tail fin movements. STEP 3. Devour. Note: EU would like it work out differently but unfortunately the UK high maintenance at best, at worst damage .

  40. Funny fact, the UK has no legislation in place about its own single market. It all was dependable on EU SM. Hence so many bureaucrats are needed to rewrite stuff. One example; a Scottish farmer could get a Scottish subsidy and bring it on the English market. Unfair Devolution was made after EU membership. To make it more difficult, England has no parliament, UK has, Scots have, Wales have, NI have. So they need to talk about new rules with the UK government not having an England parliament talking to Scotland. UK government is judge and jury in this. Podcast which talks a

I have only built in wood/epoxy and composites, but at this point I'm really in love with plywood, lumber, and epoxy and really sick of composites. I have done most levels of composite work and I've grown to really dislike the materials and the waste generated. The only thing you failed to mention is the very forgiving nature of wood/epoxy from an engineering aspect. Things that shouldn't work can work. Under-engineered or under-built structures can be surprisingly strong and long lasting. I don't pretend to know everything, but I re
