  2. As canadian sailboats continue to violate the US border Fox News reports them to be carrying drugs and weapons of mass destruction and urges Pres. Trump to take action. The US pacific fleets gets restationed to guard the northern border. Chinas seizes the opportunity to sack taiwan. When a US SSN sinks after allegedly breaking off its persiscope on a canadian pleasurecraft, Trump issues an ultimatun demanding Trudeau to acknowledge Trump being "more smart and sexier" than he is. Trudeau gives in, but speculation arises that he winked at the end of his statement. Trump order

  3. Sailing out of Eagle Harbour YC when I was a 18 year old kid, borrowing the family sailboat. The engine dies not long after leaving the harbour. Wind was zero. Very deep there so no anchoring possible. We were slowly drifting towards the floating breakwater / nearby rocks. Tried for several minutes to get the engine started with no joy. Figured I had 15 minutes before real trouble. Finally called a PAN PAN. Cancelled it 10 minutes later when I opened the fuel supply valve.

  6. Skipper of a boat I was on in Desolation sound blew out his artificial hip and we had to call the CG to get him to hospital. They sent the RCMP boat which was closer and we met them at an RVYC out station - after getting past the officious little dock master. They had to lash him to a back board to get him out of the boat which gave us a great log entry. "Skipper was removed from the boat in restraints by the RCMP"

  8. Not sure what the level of expertise (including mine) is in this thread, but I was reminded about the excellent tour I took of your Itaipú dam - on the Paraná river near the famous Iguaçu falls. As I suspected, the Three Gorges dam, like Itaipú, is of the gravity type. Meaning it’s not an arch type unloading on side buttresses, but the weight of the huge concrete triangular section is calculated to offset upstream water pressure. As such, there’s no way to topple it unless water rises much higher than the design value, or - as nearly happened in Pakistan’s Tarbela dam, but on the spillways - w

  10. So your positions on these statements are: 1. The statement "This is what America will look like under Joe Biden." is calling Portland part of America, and "It's hyperbolic but their point is that it wont be confined to Portland." 2. The statement "Are you still confused that projecting pictures of DONALD TRUMP'S AMERICA and calling it "Joe Biden's America" isn't fucking moronic?" is calling Portland America, and you have no comment on whether is is hyperbolic. And on the second statement, "Donald Trump's America" and "Joe Biden's America" both appear in it, yet your re

  11. The bookmakers don't care what the actual probabilities are. They only care about their own commissions on the betting. The odds are indirectly set by the moron bettors behavior. The bookmakers set the posted odds to keep from losing their shirts in an unbalanced situation. Can't have all the bets on one side and buy shoes for the children, too. One takeaway from the Trump +135 Biden -150 (if I recall how this rigged game works) is that the bookies are trying to entice more Biden bets to balance their book. (???) Apparently there are a surplus of moroons betting on the Trump side...who could h

  13. None of the elk have yet posted a pic of Joe Biden with Epstein or at one of his parties. No shots of Barack Obama grinning with his arm around a 17-year-old and Ghislaine Maxwell in the background. No reports of them going to Jeff's island on Jeff's jet. I guess they just don't like to party like Bill and Donnie, and the Prince and all the rest of the rich filth.

Go easy on the softener and rinse it well afterwards otherwise every time the line gets wet, your gloves and it will sink of softener.

  25. Mate, that's not only nonsense, but it's damned unpleasant nonsense to accuse those sailors of cheating, and you owe them all a public apology. If a boat is not maintained according to the x class rules it ceases to be an x. So you can make a reasonable case that those are not Lasers. If you enter a regatta for X class dinghies in a boat that is not an x class dinghy then that's cheating by the letter of the law. Was this a Laser regatta by the letter of the law.? Arguably not since the NOR clearly *required* that the boats were as sailed. So under the strict letter of the rules the sail

  30. Most of the time when I've been going the fastest, it was just trying to keep the boat up & going, during conditions that either built up as we sailed, or hit us unexpectedly. For example, sailing a Johnson 18 which is a 2-person centerboard hiking boat with asymmetric, my wife and I were out for an evening practice before a big regatta. Instead of dying, the evening breeze kicked up and then kicked up some more. We were still fairly new to the boat but we had specifically practiced spinnaker hoists and douses because we were both familiar with conventional spinnakers but asymmetrics.

  31. Unless you want to walk off the boat into towns I would recommend planning on anchoring most of the time. Then you are not stuck to a schedule. Further East your go the less dock space. Although it's there if you try hard enough. This year I would recommend calling anywhere you want to go directly. So much is in flux. As the story goes. A guy in his 80s who had sailed Pen Bay his whole life was asked why he never went anywhere else. He said" He hadn't see it all yet."

  32. There's only one poll that matters, and it's over three months away. A lot can happen in that time, although the most likely events will make it worse for Trump. However, I think there are a couple of likely events which would result in his reelection or keeping the Presidency. Vice President Cheney floated the idea of postponing elections in the aftermath of Sept 11th. He dropped it because he had pretty much zero support. Trump commands two large militarized federal agencies which have already show they have no regard for the Constitution or citizens rights. - DSK

  35. It takes a decade to really figure out what a drug is going to do. Even then, it may not be long enough. This is a case of "journalists" grabbing individual studies and trying to wave them around to get a headline. One study, and many times even dozens of studies, do not necessarily give the answer. It's the practice of medicine - not the perfection of medicine. Trump just acted like Trump acts, and gave yet another reason why he shouldn't be classified as a human being, much less a president.

  38. T seems to be pre-occupied with regulations and standards as some kind of design tool. They are not that, they are a standards and compliance tool, conflating their intent and use will for sure lead to displeasure. I work with zoning bylaws and building codes all day long, thousands of pages worth and generally except for a few small appendicies they go out of their way to NOT tell you the method of designing anything, only telling you what is in compliance or not in certain domains of design. Having lots of experience designing in compliance with a set of rules can eventually lead t
