  5. My new Grogu badge is a big hit on the unit. Things seem to be a bit worse than media reports. For example, the same day media reported my state at 90% icu capacity our hospital was at 100% and email went out saying there were no icu beds at all available in the state. We predict covid cases to double in my hospital in January.

  7. Dave, Great concept and product! Virtually all of the naysayers seem to display their own ignorance when it comes to the boat or the rig. I spent many enjoyable hours on a Sunfish as a teen in Miami. Everything you say about the Rocket is correct. Not easy to do but you seem to have succeeded in a significant update on one of the best small boat concepts ( board boat ) ever developed. Glad you had the guts to push ahead. Best of Luck!

  10. The R22, 44 and 67 (turbine version) were designed as low-cost options for private pilots, ie not utility and commercial use. There are two main issues, maintenance especially the belt drives to the gearbox and flying envelope in respect of mast bumping where negative g gives zero load on the rotors causes them to slice off the tail. Correct procedures to avoid mast bumping were dealt with by the USAF during Vietnam on the twin blade Hueys. NZ has a long history of Robinsons from the early days of deer hunting to Agri stuff plus operating in mountainous terrain. Interestingly NZ has around 800

  17. Actually not commenting on the above video but I don't want it to get buried by my Fulcrum update for the holidays, so i'm responding to it to keep it in frame. Martin is conveying what I'd love to convey if the water wasn't capable of killing me right now. So that's also imoprtant. Given that this is such an abnormal year and many have wrecked holiday plans, I'm making an exception to spread what joy and community I can with sharing a holiday UFO update. Fulcrum Speedworks is going into the new year mid way through filling a container load (14 UFOs!) going to First Marine, our new d

  20. Stuck in the house just after a blizzard. I have to go shovel snow while it is -5F (-20C) with a wind chill of -12F (-24C). Lake has about a foot of ice on it (almost thick enough to drive a car on it). Just the beginning of another winter, except I can't travel to warm weather this year. I will "wave" Merry Christmas to all I see and wish you all a Happy Holidays. And you kiwis think you go it tough to have to watch the cup races from shore. I wish I could see liquid water and a fricking palm tree.....LOL . Some day I will make to NZ.

  24. Then why is it just in F&B? Why not clerks in stores who wait on you get tips? I've bought stuff in specialty stores where the staff spent far more time with me than a waitress at a nice steak restaurant. I've worked as a busboy and a waiter before. I made some good $$ when I was in HS and college waiting tables and bartending. I do tip wait staff based on their level of service. What I'm saying is that I think the system sucks. Almost nowhere outside of the US does it this way. I've been to some fab restaurants around the world and received excellent service and food and a t

  25. Fuck ALL of that! I hate the tipping system in the US altogether. I'd rather pay the 15-20% extra on the total bill up front than to leave tips. And then the managers can just pay their wait staff at least min wage. The latest practice that now has me seeing red is when you get a sandwich or other quick takeout and rather than a tip jar at the counter, they now have a pop up on the credit card machine thingy that asks if you want to pay a 10%, 15%, 20% or other tip. Or none. Sorry, but its a fast food takeout. You haven't waited on me. You put precooked stuff into a bag that took

  34. Four years... 6 days. Strict end of services, all NHS doctors and nurses from the EU working in the UK if they have EU qualification papers (almost all of them), have to stop working. Unless they have solved this. But it is not clear. The doctors and nurses really like that. In the middle of a pandemic. If one occupation now needed clarity form BJ Brexit statement before X-mas it was them. But they are now agonizing. ---- The devil will be in the detail of the full document on MRPQs and other frameworks for recognition of standards. The short summary document from the EU on the deal

  36. Simple enough to re-anneal copper washers and re-use... use a torch to heat the washer up to a dull red color, then quench in water. Even a butane mini torch will do the trick. New copper washers are simpler, but annealing is a handy thing to know when easy replacements are unavailable.

  37. I'll say it again: "Intersectionality". Race was invented for the express purpose of preventing class solidarity/awareness. 400 years on, they're inextricable intertwined. It's not an "either/or" question, it's an "and/both". You can't understand (or hope to fix) one, without the also understanding the other. It's like trying to gain lose weight, by only paying attention to exercise, or only paying attention to diet. You need to address both, to succeed.

  38. It's my sister-in-law's birthday. She passed away a few years back, so it's a bit difficult of a reminder at our house. But this Christmas Eve we are both thinking of the 3,000+ Americans who dies today, and their families... and the 3,000+ who will on this Christmas, and their families...and how difficult their future holidays will be. If there is a such a thing as a real blessing, let be given this holiday to the 200,000+ health care workers who tried to keep it from happening, and continue to treat all who need care... and the many around the world in similar circumstances. - DSK

  39. most people seem quite comfortable wearing masks etc now, it's just second nature. just getting on with the job as it were. I think the NSW outbreak has helped us in Victoria, a timely reminder as we were getting a bit slack. There were so many smiles, politeness and pleasantness at the market yesterday from the traders and shoppers, a sort of "we did it" camaraderie. I haven't noticed small businesses closed up yet, the jobkeeper scheme seems to have worked for small retailers so far but the new year will tell. We did have 190 applications for three part time temp (28HPW) jobs

  40. Presumably just a typo but the correct formula is: drag angle = atan(Drag/Lift) = 90 degrees - atan(Lift/Drag) And I would also like to change the wording a bit to make it perfectly clear (although yours is correct too) Total drag angle is the sum of the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic drag angles = atan(Drag_aero/Lift_aero) + atan(Drag_hydro/Lift_hydro) In other words, the smaller the drag angle is, the better the efficiency is, not the other way around.

  44. Boats have huge switching costs though. Ideally there would be a liquid market with common enough boat types for people to start small and trade up as they progress, but that only exists in France. For the rest of us we are picking boats for the next 5 years (and hopefully a lot of progression) the Fig 2 is certainly more aggressive than a J/boat, but that’s a low bar. At the end of the day it’s still a 30ft keelboat with moderately sized sails and plenty of righting moment so that you aren’t on your ear like the crewed boats without railmeat. Plus with a proper shorthanded cockpit la
