  1. New Max Sirena interview by Bacci del Buono and Mario Giuffrè for Giornale della Vela. It's a really long interview, almost 2 hours, Max as always is very straight and open to talk about nearly everything he can share with the audience. - They knew that Ineos would have fixed the boat for the Prada Cup (edit: that's true, Max always said that in every interview). ITUK sailed better, but the main reason they lost against them was that LR did some mistakes. They didn't close the door when they could, they allowed BA to make some split and keep the race open. LR didn't apply the classic m

There are still 5 SAists out there. @vibroman abruptly turned left just before the finish, bounced off Greenland and then stranded himself on the Labrador coast of NE Canada. @Mid had some R&R on the beaches of Southern Brazil and is currently heading in roughly the correct direction in the middle of the S Atlantic. @MobyBick is ashore on King George Island just around the corner from The Machu Picchu Scientific Base which is a Peruvian polar scientific res

  5. Its ALWAYS been fucking expensive. Building space shuttles, and rockets is also fucking expensive! Yet you don't see NASA saying "lets build cheap shit so more people get into space" F1 is fucking expensive, but you don't see Mercedes or Ferrari saying "oh guys this is getting a bit out of hand so lets go with something cheap" Football is one of, if not THE most expensive sport in the world in terms of player contracts. You could run 4 Americas Cup campaigns on the salary of one Christiano Ronaldo, yet you don't see Juventus saying "Nah we'll pass on him cos he's too expensive" costs aren't pr

  10. No, their views are not dismissed, they are commented on. Plus, they are not at all new, almost each involved B in the last 15 odd years had them... Had exactly the same. It's like Groundhog Day. These views lead nowhere in the AC, because they want to change the core of what the AC is. Look where LE's same ideas led: the SGP, but not the complete change of the AC. Thankfully there's the DoG and the concept of a challenge cup. It's what made the AC go on for such a long time and makes it special contrary to JAR.

Currently, you need an unobstructed view of the north sky, about 53 degrees N iirc. No tree branches, telephone poles, etc., or you may experience brief outages. I mounted my dish up high, no issues... (Ignore the yagi under the dish. It is my LTE/cellular antenna.) The dish, power supply and WiFi router are 499 USD + tax. The setup is trivial. The dish comes with a yard stand, but it fits perfectly in any of the big name sat TV provider's mounts, one I

  13. What makes the America’s Cup what it is and what separates it from all other sports is precisely what Ratcliffe dislikes in this article. The fact that it is unfair. Besides war, it is the apotheosis of design competition. It’s not about the best sailors, it never has been. I sincerely hope it remains this way. Although a bit of stability in the class of boat would be nice. Besides if he wants F1 on water. Go to the TP52’s. They are precisely that. Extremely stable regs, lots of teams, the pinnacle of modern yacht design as we know it, while still being relatable to what boaties have in

  15. I sometimes sail off my mooring, starting off with the “windward” jib, and then hoisting the mainsail going dead downwind. Which you can’t do on any other kind of boat with any wind at all around.... The apparent wind hoisting and dropping a mainsail is less DDW than stationary or going into the wind, not that I do it for that reason.

  17. Honestly I've never had solid water come above the prow and never felt the bow stuff in the back of a wave the way I have with other boats, especially monohulls. The mast on Jzerro is only 36' off the deck and the main hull is 36' long, so it has much less leverage up high driving the bow down than a similarly sized trimaran, cat or monohull. Also, the main hull of Jzerro has quite a lot of reserve buoyancy and freeboard. It's nothing like pushing a trimaran hard down wind. I have not sailed her in sustained winds above 40 knots, but have been happy with her stability in the 30's

  18. He did start well in Bermuda, I agree. I still think his natural approach is to get a good/neutral start and rely on speed & tactics to get ahead. I don't think that's appropriate in this regatta, particularly against the on-form and very impressive Ainslie-Scott pairing, who are a whole different deal from the bluster and games of Spithill. I am sure Burling will figure it out. It's a mouth watering prospect. The best sailor of this generation against the old master with more olympic metalwork than the IOC, all in ridiculously overpowered machines doing 40 knots upwind on foils the size o

  20. Eh, yeah I'd say the Republicans are largely responsible for that stuff, but the Democrats also hold their fair share of responsibility. Here's an example. Waaaaaay back in the 1940's, the United States enacted some rules about who was allowed to own theaters in the entertainment business. They had seen what happened when the studios owned everything in giant monoliths of capitalism. Much like we're seeing now in many industries where one or two mega-corporations own everything from start to finish. Now, the Biden administration is allowing that to happen again as the rules first

I think it capped around 98 total boats and they are looking for ways to let more in as there's plenty on the wait list. Our local district events are pulling 40-50 boats. 3 years ago we were lucky to see a total of 20 all fleets combined. With COVID the Jr double handed boats have taken a huge hit so kids are swarming to ILCA's. Some adults are doing the same. I used to always have about 3 good used boats I knew about for interested folks, but we haven't had a

  24. The length of keel above the pivot point on these systems is surprisingly short, the forces on the rams must be huge. I guess anything longer would mean weight high up which is clearly not wanted. Bigger brains than mine design these things but I wonder if the reliability v speed trade off is a bit off.

  29. What I think is going to happen is they are realizing they ALMOST pulled it off. Look for a lot of action on the state level to make it legal for Republican state governments to say "The R guy won" no matter what the actual vote count is. Before now they had no idea how much support there is among the elk for ending what we think of as democracy.

  30. The AC isn't an event that needs lead up races. Yes, its good to watch, but if they're going to turn it into a side show circus where there's an event, or multiple events every year, it takes away from the prestige of the event itself. The mystique, and the unknowns are what makes the Americas Cup, the Americas Cup. If we see Cup boats racing 6, 7, 8 times a year, they're not going to be as appreciated, as surprising come cup time. In the world of the AC, less is more.

  36. I'm only referring to pacific proas. When trying to understand the beam loads, consider where the mast is mounted and where the sail forces are directed. I have never sailed a trimaran offshore solo. I have with a crew and have spent hours watching beams flexing and leeward hulls going under water at speed. Jzerro certainly feels safer than the trimarans I've taken offshore, but I'd never claim with authority that it is. One thing I'm certain of is that singlehanding multhulls offshore at speed is a lot more stressful and dangerous than singlehanding monohulls. I think Peyron said it, bu

  37. The GOP cannot have a reasonable discussion. The democrat party is a variety of ideals and a group of very different people. That's why it hasn't been powerful, but generally has more supporters. The GOP is largely a monoculture. The old white guy / redneck meme is very much grounded in fact. The GOP has no reason to negotiate when their base is so single-minded.

  40. Sorry, My bad. Yup NYSC governs the D.O.G. I dont think that is the kind of dynamic sports governing body Ratcliffe would like to see. It is an old discussion. Larry Ellison feels the same way. In reality it will never have the viewership or advertising sponsorship of F1. Costs could be reduced and some revenues generated to help offset the costs by having stability in platform etc. But in reality, this is a very exclusive playground

  41. And you know that Dominion didn't update the code and patch known vulnerabilities? They have paper backup which match their machines count, they did a recount and it checked out. Can you give a few examples of Dominion evm hacks/failures this election or are you just trying to undermine and smear them based on speculation and conjecture? You seem to think a block chain based system would be better and more widely acceptable to the populace disregarding that to most anything to do with math or computers might as well be magic.

My wife ran a slight fever and had similar symptoms than me. My kids? Runny noses was it. So no big deal. Am I lucky or is what I had typical? Who knows but me and my family were cautious. Wore masks when we went out, didn’t congregate with people outside our home, we followed the rules and we got it anyway. Unless you live on an island isolated from everyone else you are going to get it.

My wife told our Harbor Master that we were gonna put both up for sale on Monday, and both were sold within six days by Saturday. However my youngest son still has the Ranger 33 - pictured after finishing the bottom paint during a haulout, before we took it up the Inside Passage two years ago.
