  2. Man. I can't help laughing. Yep I love them. IT is not how much you earn but what those earnings will buy that is important. That is the true measure of living standards. The Western media is full of articles about people complaining that because of inflation their earnings don't buy as much as they used to. Comparing apples with oranges has very little if any value whatsoever. A couple of DIRECT comparisons from opposite end of the spectrum. I have just returned from a road trip to Hainan. I used a hire car from our southern home in Guangzhou to Hainan. Tha

  3. To some extent yes, but your statement misses what is really going on. Take the 800, for example. At the time, the dominant high performance twin trap, asymmetric boats were the I14 and 49er. Both were hard to sail and expensive, beyond the skill and wallet of most. What RS saw was a demand for the type of boat, but at a price and ease of sailing that would make it a mass market boat. Most of the people who bought 800's didn't come from I14's or 49ers. Some of their boats are more direct competition, such as the Aero. However, there is a significant difference between the Aero and Laser.

  4. Just seen a petition on change.org by Michael Horgan urging the Irish govt to bid for AC. It has only received about 1700 signatures at the moment. The govt will hardly be overwhelmed by the support. (For comparison, the next petition it linked to had over 100k signatories campaigning to stop the cutting down of 70 trees)

  5. Max talked a lot about that AC in an interview with the Centro velico Caprera. Regarding the power mainsheets, he told a funny story. "To move the winches we mounted the engine of a BMW 1 series. Two Austrian technicians came with the engine, they were also the mechanics for the Mini Cooper in the Paris - Dakar race. They were two genius, they had this container that seemed like something of NASA. Nobody was allowed to enter in there. They lightened and rebuilt the whole engine, They made it go from weighing 300 kg to 140 kg. They also powered it up to 400 horsepower, instead of 190. Ju

  6. Today was fun. It was extremely shifty and puffy, but what the hell, might as well go nuts with the new toy. We were doing a happy 16-17 when we totally binned it! We got the spreaders wet, and gave the keel bulb a little air time. Might as well have fun!

  8. Agree. Those 2 officers were very polite and professional. They gave full warning of the potential consequences of answering their questions and emphasised that none of the questions needed to be answered. Bottom line - foreign cruisers are guests. If they want to cop an attitude, they can find out just how many rules exist that can be applied to them at the discretion of the Fisheries and Police officers. I thought the cruising kiwis were basically ok. What I saw in that video wasn't pleasant and I don't mean the cops. They knew full well who touched the shark and who used the radio

  9. He's for real. It's hard for me to take ear gauges, but he's a seaman and did a beautiful job refitting his boat. I didn't know the girl left him - she never had much to say - the dog was better company. He's the kind of guy who, if there was no Youtube, he'd still be doing what he's doing, and you can't say fairer than that.

And it's interesting that college educated women are only interested in college educated men, while college age men are interested in women with a nice ass and decent tits.

  12. Poll numbers down, justices say they aren’t politicians WASHINGTON (AP) — Three Supreme Court justices delivered the same plea in rapid succession in recent days: Don’t view justices as politicians. The justices have reason to be concerned. Recent polls show a sharp drop in approval of a court now dominated by conservatives. The call by justices Clarence Thomas, Stephen Breyer and Amy Coney Barrett for the public not to see court decisions as just an extension of partisan politics... Isn't it interesting the three who always vote along party lines are making this ple

  17. I picked up a salvage 1985 J22 for -$1. Not a typo. They're paying me $1 to haul it away. The mast crumpled. You can see it taped to the trailer, and when it went down it put a hole in the deck. Relatively easy repair. I found the original trailer to the boat and I found a used mast for $100. Also not a typo. That's a story in and of itself. A guy in Wisconsin bought two J22s for their lead to make sinkers out of. He cut the keels off with the sump. He's parting out the boats. A 1988 hull and he couldn't figure out the other. If anybody wants a project, I'll connect you. I

I say that with absolute certainty knowing that human behavior will not change in the short run ... let's call that 10,000 years. And lets put ALL the blame on the drunken hairy-chested men. Indeed, when did we start blaming the women? Now what? Here's what: We do whatever we can to protect women ... and weapons are just fine with me, and after that a whole shitload of people like you, sir, need to face up to actual human behavior being very often ugly. Guessing you

  22. I taught for close to 25 years in an upper middle class public high school where pretty much none of the above were important factors and girls did better. I think the main reason is how boys and girls are socialized growing up that means that girls are more focussed on their school work and just outwork the boys in general.

  24. IMHO a good deal of the confusion about "Bluewater Sailing" is caused by the wide variation in how much risk one is willing to accept - as well as no universally accepted definition of what bluewater sailing actually is. Lotsa folks are out there doing major ocean crossings in small keelboats with spade rudders (and minimalist creature comforts). This gent has some strong opinions that will resonate with a good number of folks, but there are others who dream of foiling across the Atlantic, and just punching out the EPIRB if they're unlucky enough to hit a submerged container at 25+ knots.

NZ is not enough money and he has rejected Dunphy Ireland have asked for 6 months, which would appear to be a polite way of saying feck off Spain is vapourware Jeddah we don't know what they bid. But it's either not enough or even GD won't sell that part of his soul. Otherwise he would have taken it. Unless he is desperately hoping for another bid that is more palatable but will take Jeddah if he has to And then there are the rumours of a mystery bidder. But again if they had bid enough he would have taken it. So he s

"If more or most women dedicate 2-4 hours a day, 1 to 4 days a week becoming proficient at martial arts they can kick the shit out of a man" and men would do WHAT exactly? Not prey on women? Your example that makes you giddy was a random encounter. DV, which I'm guessing is Domestic Violence is the phrase used for violence upon someone by somebody they know. 31. It’s hardly stalking when replying to a forum post. You say you aren’t telling anyone what to do. The fuck you aren’t. You are casting doubt on a vaccine that has been administered literally billions of times, with absolutely clear benefit. Your post does nothing to help end the pandemic, though that said, it’s probably safe to say no one is going to take your advice, simply because you can’t express thoughts in clear, concise English.

  32. Seriously, 6-8 weeks for an Atlantic crossing on the barefeet route means you might neither have to motor nor sail. The current and the trade winds in the bare rig will be enough to get you there. (Not necessarily bow forward but who cares, arr? Port if call is “somewhere between Brazil and Puerto Rico”.) The interesting part will be bringing that colander out of the region before hurricane season kicks in. Shit, I think there’s no way she will make it back to Europe in one piece. So good luck motherfucker and have fun in the mangroves!

  34. True story in January 2020 a guy purchased this cat in Adelaide South Australia, he set out to sail to the East coast with a lady friend that had never sailed before, they ran into unseasonable big Southerly winds so were beating into big waves, he was sitting outside steering, she was curled up in bed. They made it to Robe South Aus, he gave it away in the supermarket and walked away from it, even had 5 full cans of fuel for the outboard still on it. A lady from Robe Sailing Club was walking through the supermarket and said yes and that was it

  35. I had an interesting conversation with an ex ITUK team member who said out of all the boats he'd still have chosen the ITUK sail control system (with LR aero and ETNZ foil package). This was a bit of a surprise but it does highlight the importance of integrating every system together succesfully - maybe ETNZ didn't have the absolute best rig package but just the best integration of all the systems together..? FWIW I'd include the crew as one of these 'systems' and I think LR and ETNZ also had consistency here that the other 2 challengers couldn't match.

  41. True, there was no concern then about who was doing the manual work. It was all about the rich bloke facing off another rich bloke, so having the rich bloke have to follow nationality rules would be best. Didn't the team say they wanted to return the cup back to its roots? Should be a no brainer.

  43. The warrant on Meng was not for sanctions violations per se, but for bank fraud because it was concealed from the HSBC that her loan application was to finance something that would violate US law. She knew she was wanted in the US, which is precisely why she tried to go to Mexico City through Vancouver. I do not know if it was on account of ignorance or hubris on her part, that she felt that a US warrant would be just ignored by Canadian Border Services on account of her being rich or famous or whatever.

  44. I have downloads of the 2001-04 RRS, which I think was ISAF's first attempt at on-line publishing. I also have one or two PDF scans of pre 1961 rules that people have given me. My collection of rule books is pretty OK back to the 1961 rewrite, except for 1992-97, which, if anybody has any sort of access to I'd appreciate it. And I have absolutely nothing about the trial versions of the 1995 re-write. I also have copies of the NAYRU rules 1952 and 1953, and the IYRU (meaning RYA) rules 1947, and some bits and bobs going back to Manfred Currey in the 1930s.

IE it makes it harder for the boat to spin plus gives you more directional stability and al

Can't remember ever signing up for, ever paying for Sunday Ticket, but it was always there.. Thankfully, my interest in the NFL is such that you could stick it in your eye and it wouldn't bother you. Since I dropped that satellite service(many years ago), I recall being able to find games on Sling or Hulu by using a VPN or proxy server... same way I watched the Cup this past winter...
