  1. How is it in Trump's best interest to attend the inauguration? So history can remember him as a normal president who respected the institutions of government and realized the importance of an orderly transfer of power? That ship has sailed long ago. I would be shocked if he did. I think he would see the whole thing as so humiliating for him that he couldn't stand it. I seriously doubt it. While it would entirely be on brand for Trump to try to "counterprogram" some bullshit event to coincide with Biden's swearing in to steal his thunder, short of pulling a Bud Dwyer live on the a
  2. So do people really start these smug threads and not return to them when things go south?
  3. He indicated strongly that getting the Covid 19 epidemic under control was the first priority of the nation. That's policy. He's not going to get into detail in a speech like that but it's policy, and it's the most important one. I'm glad he didnt mention Trump's name once. You can argue that he could have given a nod to the impressive turnout and campaign of Trump. But difficult to do when the other guy isn't even acknowledging you won and is hunkering down in full Hitler in the bunker Downfall mode.
  4. I'm pretty sure his gang told him "hey Donnie it's a nice day, let's go golf!" around the time the race was going to get called so he wouldn't have a stroke in front of the TV. Or he realized himself he needed to get away from the TV at that time.
  5. Odds of Trump recovering his security deposit are low. I can only imagine the brutal hammering the White House toilets have endured considering how much Trump dwells on the topic of water pressure in his rallies.
  6. Two theories: As King Midas Moneybags Trump didn't even have cash to bus his elderly supporters out of the freezing cold after his rallies at the end, the landscape business owner is some donor who let them set up there and use the property for free. Second and more amusing theory is that Trump tweeted out that the presser would be at the Four Seasons Hotel, thinking it suitably classy for him, they told him to sod off, and he had to make alternate arrangements. Some serious Coen Brothers movie vibe out of the whole situation.
  7. This is, uh, not exactly consistent with the tone of his tweets since the election got called: But, yes, as much as most of us (including me) would enjoy watching Trump dragged out of the White House by his ankles in his underwear, it would be a far better thing for the country if he conceded as this would go a long way towards defusing potential violence from his more deranged supporters.
  8. A pretty good place to see the results of most big state and national polls show up is this twitter feed: https://twitter.com/Politics_Polls You can click the links in the individual tweets to go to the source material from the pollster. Two sites where election polls are aggregated and averaged are fivethirtyeight.com and realclearpolitics: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-general/national/ https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/us/general_election_trump_vs_biden-6247.html

Just look at these guys, I guess this is what you get when you go bargain basement to hire mercs:

Over the last few weeks, it has started to appear as though, in addition to abandoning the states to their own devices in a time of national emergency, the federal government has effectively erected a blockade — like that which the Union used to
  11. This continues to present a huge problem for all the world's navies: https://news.usni.org/2020/04/15/two-u-s-sailors-on-french-carrier-charles-de-gaulle-test-positive-for-covid-19 A COVID-19 outbreak on French aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle (R91) and its carrier strike group has ballooned from 50 positive cases last week to at least 668 today, with 31 service members hospitalized and one in intensive care. The French Navy (Marine Nationale) began testing suspected COVID cases on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier on April 8 and found 40 initial cases. On April 12 that

Navy officials would not specify where the sailors have been moved, but confirmed the crew members in close proximity to the infected sailors have since tested negative. Treatment of patients onboard Mercy, which arrived in Los Angeles on March 27, will continue as planned, officials said.
  13. I think Trump is losing it, even more than usually, because he's starting to realize the walls are closing in and he can't just bullshit his way out of this situation. Even with the curve beginning to flatten here in the U.S. (assuming it's not just due to testing limitation) there's a long time and a lot of deaths, illness and economic suffering that are going to dominate this year despite whatever reopening he may want to try to do. Between reporters starting to call him out on his bullshit to his face at his propaganda briefings, and outlets like the NY Times laying out very clear

"There's been a very small number of breakouts on the Nimitz, and we're watching that very closely," Air Force Gen. John Hyten, vice chairman of t
