  1. Out of curiosity, what does one of these half hull run? Just a ballpark estimate. In case I want to add it to my christmas list.
  2. Oh yeah, and this. Don't build your own boat. At least not yet. You're gonna need WAY more $$$ than you probably have, unless you're a bitcoin millionaire. Im being very honest, I promise, I was in the same mindset as you were not too long ago.
  3. 8ft retractable keel with an 8ft beam which "unfolds" to 11ft, and I can tow this boat with any half decent SUV. It's very possible to have both performance and transportability, just need a little imagination... Now whether or not you need to be towing an "ocean" racer around all the time, I'm not so sure. But a coastal racer? Sure.
  4. SPEED You'd think they would be selling some other features of the boat... Any other feature really...
  5. Holy cow that rig is tiny. A hard chined melges with half the sail and twice the weight? It was blowing out there in that video. Of course if it's cheap enough, may just make sense. Otherwise just buy a J80 and go faster...
  6. I thought about buying the one on here a couple of months ago. Looks super sweet to me, although needed a bigger, carbon stick if i remember. Ended up with a winged sportboat, but for the right price (and a bunch of mods? these little guys don't seem terrible.
  7. Some even argue that you can produce righting moment with an inverter top section... Either way it's probably best just to reef (if possible), but don't tell that to sport boat owners. Hell, most don't have a reef.
  8. Follow up, where is Sail like a girl at?! Don't see them listed, would be a big shame for them not to make it.
  9. I'm still on the fence about joining. For sure doing R2AK next year, so this could be good practice? But in reality, I've sailed around here in circles many many times as all of the local races and regattas are around these parts... More importantly, not sure my new to me boat will be in shape to race 3 straight days! Still have to get my pooping bucket all set up. Who else is joining?
  10. This thread needs more pictures and or videos! Awesome boat.
  11. I'll be in the process soon to get a PHRF-NW rating (just brought it into town in January! Currently finishing up the new water ballast system). Will be interesting what it will be, rated 54 in the east coast. Oh... that's the first time I hear about this! Interesting, thanks for the heads up. Better than hearing from their tech team that "my boat breaks the VPP" I added the water ballast, so while the boat had an official ORC rating in the past, it won't reflect the higher downwind speeds now that I can send crew overboard. For the moment, I'm mostly interested in ORC to be
  12. I have water ballast. My problem is that apparently, as one of the ORC techs wrote me in an email the other day: "Boats with movable ballasts need to be measured because and when the RM is entered as Club (as default) the VPP doesn't recognize it and it will crash. To be able to enter the weight of the ballasts a fully measured boat has to be used." I'll be at the Ballard Cup races, and I wish I could use an ORC rating. But I can't get one unless I go through the hassle of all this. A shame, because I really do like the ORC system. Let me know if your trial cert can help. O
  13. a. Is it too cold/humid to re-paint my deck here in the next couple of weeks? Thinking 2-part Perfection, but it "says" it has a 50deg min limit... b. Would it be possible to rent for a couple of days an indoor, heated type of space where I could do this? I have a tarp setup already, but that's not going to help with the temp issue...
  14. Does anyone have the specs of this thing? That new mainsail is beautiful.
  15. Is that ts5? No, wait, a ts42. Nope. Ts3. Not that small... Man everything Marsaudon builds seems to look exactly the same. Anyway wish I had one, but just like a 1968 beetle (or a 2001 Civic), you can tell one apart from a mile away. Or on this case 2 miles away as they will be sailing away from you fast.
  16. That is a FANTASTIC cockpit for dogs. Probably no better boat that this other than a more stable catamaran (reynolds 21 - 33?) Unfortunately it doesn't have a place to sleep or poop (cruise), but for only 2k that leaves you PLENTY of dollars to spend supporting all of the fantastic hotels - and bars - all up and down the sound.
  17. MOORE 30... What did that rate? Anyone know? (preferably the rating before the keels dropped off ) I bet its higher than this stonkCA crypto420
  18. But then again, LWL seems more and more irrelevant as the years go on doesn't it. Not sure if you've seen, but their not in the water very much nowadays You don't see cars, smartphones, or even vacumes named by their specifications any longer. They should make up some sick names. The AC Sky Raptor. The AC Pillager. The AC Anarchist. I miss sail changes...
  19. This is incredible. And here I think I'm cool because I'm able to install a thru hull. Let me know when you want to build my new boat, and keep us posted! Can't wait to see this thing sail.
  20. I just can't understand how a set of foils goes for half a mil. Someone is making a KILLING. I know the engineering aint easy. And loads of carbon involved. But man... 500k. That's nuts. I built an entire carbon motorcycle frame for all of 12k (including my time as cost). I just don't see it. Although, I am one to complain about my dock fees being $50 too much. Clearly I'm not the target audience. One vote though that this will never be past the rendering stage.
  21. Never seen this before. Whoa. So, what about top down furlers? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing (keeping the forward portion rolled until deployment)
  22. Can you please please get a friend and do some side by side racing with a "normal" imoca. Pretty sure someone has to have a replica of that. Beautiful model sir. Bravo.
  23. Foilers are definitely, absolutely faster. No doubt about it. Of course the range in which they are faster is also pretty narrow... So, the question is... Is the extra speed worth the exponential cost/maintenance/reliability? I would imagine for most, like myself, it isn't. I like my $2k carbon bike. A $10k carbon bike would certainly be faster and smoother, but not 5x faster and smoother. Maybe 10% faster and smoother. Same with these boats. After all, people still sail J24's. And that's not because they are the Pinnacle of boat design I myself have gone back and forth on
  24. Yyyyyup. That's the reason I went with an entire extra thru hull + pump for my water ballast system (different application, same concept) as it was half the price as a fancy sofomarine. As great as those things are... I even went with the extra efficient "flush" thru hull from Forespar, and it was still cheaper...
  25. AC75 for the masses J/Boats and Melgi better look out... They coming for you.
