Absolutely no sane person has ever gone into the Business of building small racing sailboats because it was seen as the best financial possibility for investment.

in fact, that statement pretty much applies to anything having to do with sailing.

Those of us who serve sailing do so because the personal rewards exceed the value of the money we could have accumulated instead.

If you think there is a person doing something anywhere in the world of sailing who is in it purely for the money you are a misguided ignorant person.

Gouv doesn't seem to remember a fellow by the name of Rastegar...

So, I've heard someone is circling their wagons in NA to become an ILCA builder.....I think the next 6 months will be interesting.

I doubt that this idea will come to fruition.

Too many builders as it stands IMHO; I would not be surprised if one of the current builders will throw in the towel before too long.

I see a lack of “doing the things I believe are necessary to build the game.”

a few people are doing some stuff locally but I simply do not see any of the National or North American level support ( I think is fundamental and necessary)  from anyone.

Scott W has done an excellent job as secretary of District 11. I am confident he will do the same at the North American level.

After an extensive evaluation process analyzing every single detail of the boat both on and off the water we are glad to announce that The Laser is officially being produced in Portugal!

    #laser #laserperformanceboats #laserperformance

Those will be picked up (at a discount) by resorts etc.

Not sure how big a market that will be.

  5. Redress was given in most cases, although there's RRS 62.1.

At an earlier Sunfish Worlds the connection between my tiller and extension ('universal') broke. Without a functioning tiller extension, one cannot be competitive and I had to throw in the towel.

My request for redress was rejected because, according to the Protest Committee, I was responsible for my boat, even though it was chartered (and new). They cited RRS 62.1 (b).

I was told that if another boat had caused the failure, I would be given redress.

    Confusing, isn't it?

So do they at least have decent build quality? Relatively speaking, of course, being that we're talking about Lasers. Or is that aspect in the toilet too?

Nobody knows. LP is building Sunfish hulls without internal foam supports. Old timers are not happy; that's for sure.

  7. The Laser Class will soon have some vacancies in their leadership.

Both Beat Heinz (chair) and Andreas Döring (executive secretary) will resign at the next General Meeting.

This seems like a great opportunity for Wess!

Members only: FREE tickets to the upcoming Zoom meeting (Saturday Oct 30 at 1400 CET).

Who would want to pass that up...

  8. Wess isn't well informed about developments within the Sunfish class.

The fact is that Sunfish are now manufactured in Portugal (nothing wrong with that) BUT the build process has been changed significantly. No more internal foam structures. Many knowledgeable Sunfish racers predict that this will effect the longevity of the hulls. The class (ISCA) can only provide input, but has no rights since they don't own the plans.
