  1. There is something missing from this photo: What is missing? I was quite excited to hear that NYYC had submitted a competing Challenge but next sentence I was no longer. This is actually worse in the important bits than the BS GD & Ratcliffe came up with.
  2. So RNZYS just reposted TNZs statement rather than making their own? They didn't even bother to rewrite the first sentence: 'RNZYS is proud to announce we have received and accepted a challenge for the 37th AC...' A question: What is missing from this picture? Edit: while its the case that its missing the answer isn't 'A caption saying who the fuck that guy in the middle is?' https://rys.org.uk/the-rys/flag-officers Seems to be Rear Commodore Yachting Robert M Bicket But who fucking knows because they didn't bother to put it in the pr
  3. One is just being a professional sailor like several other kiwi pro sailor & ex-'TNZ' sailors had done before. The Great Charlie Barr was Scottish and sailed for both British Challengers & US Defenders, this is a part of the patina of the history of the AC. The other is actively shitting on the 170 year history of the AC & the wording of the DoG. 4. It absolutely was an outrageous breach. (AC55 btw) I wonder if GD was an only child? Because those of us who were from a multi-child family of limited means know that fucking off your parents by being a churlish little cunt throwing your toys out of the cot every time you don't immediately get what you want doesn't get you what you want. It gets you sent to bed early/grounded/otherwise punished. The Govt is the parents here. And the RNZYS is 150yrs old this year but their membership & flag officers apparently are ok with letting GD bring their i
  5. On the bright side: With the nationality rules effectively locking out EB there is no need to go shopping around the hosting now right? As they told us that large hosting fee they're seeking was necessary to get in early salary/retainers for key team members from being poached. But now current teams are basically locked in/out so we don't need to worry about that anymore & GD can confidently announce Defense in Auckland tomorrow thus removing a large amount of cuntyness from the whole situation
  6. It's taken me a long time to catch up to this thread because I read a few posts and have to take a break to cool off my incandescent rage & then there are a bunch of new posts to catch up which rage me up again This. Is. Not. OK. Because doing so is a breach of This is crystal clear: NO CONDITIONS OF SUBSEQUENT MATCHES MAY BE EVEN CONSIDERED WHILE THERE IS A CHALLENGE UNDECIDED. That language is the controlling language, no AC related agreement can overrule it. If they know that and are just trying it out to see if its accepted its
  7. As an independant pre-event, possibly associated with an ACWS round this would be fine. If RYS representative syndicate wants a DoG, this would also be fine. (I've been trying to think what you would build for a DoG now) But if they want an AC raced on the Solent the ONLY way that should ever happen is if they actually win the damn thing themselves first.
  8. Whatever else my opinion on the LE/RC era of the AC the idea to quickly mass-produce a bunch of relatively cheap & portable OD AC45s for a touring pre-series was brilliant. It was a great shame that GD didn't try to emulate it.
  9. Actually I retract that, watched the stern cam & the audio has them surprised to not be laying just after the gybe so it seems they assumed LR had gybed on lay & probably would have continued if they had realised LR wasn't laying.
  10. There are now 5* AC winning boats within a couple of hundred meters at the Viaduct *KZ-1 was ruled winner by NYSC before losing on appeal.
  11. A point about this race: It wasn't just the start on the right or TNZ speed, the leg 2 leeward mark where LR fell decisively behind was an intentional move by TNZ. LR had closed the gap a lot, had good pace but wasn't laying & TNZ could have easily gone a few lengths past the LR line -> 1 & in round the port gate. But they chose to gybe right on LRs line & then right in front of them to round the starboard gate shutting down the split. Already before that gybe LR had to hot up the angle, they were very high & down to 22kt coming out of it. LR was lef
  12. There were a LOT of ppl in the bars around the Viaduct though.
  13. Just back from the Viaduct. Everyone got a lift & a drink, including the shore crew. Bit sadly the crowd started fading after the first few, at least half the crowd & not much clapping by the end.
  14. LR actually gained a bit but thats it. Commiserations to Italians, it was a hard fight.
  15. TNZ were out 550m coming onto port lay but got a bit soft, back down to 400 at top.
  16. TNZ out to port lay not super quick, LR did a good JK but still 450m & TNZ near direct to windward.
  17. TNZ clearing away to 500m with a long 41kt gybe with LR doing 39, 3+kt vmg advantage to TNZ
  18. LR gained with a really good tack & TNZ had a not great came back to 250m but then TNZ got an extend to lay back out to 300m at top.
