if it's a short sprit consider a fixed attachment point. If it's more traditional look into going 2:1 with it

thought I was going to have to do the same but after blasting the base of the mast on my 105 it cleaned up nicely and nothing was needed

GGYC Midwinter Results http://www.yachtscoring.com/event_results_detail.cfm?Race_Number=3&eID=566
I'm sorry to say that it isn't even close.
Unfortunately I don't believe SF has seen the potential yet of a well sailed FT10. No offense to the owners up there but the one you are using in your results has never sailed in a OD event. The level that the upper ends of the fleet sail at in SoCal and the PNW are more on par with what eightball did in your example. Really doesn't make much sense to compare the boats unless you have equally talented teams. Not to knock any of the boats I think the J/111 is a great boat.
-
keep in mind we have a 3 rating system in SoCal. The delta between the bouy rating and the offwind rating is greater depending on the downwind potential of the boat. The J/111 was given a provisional temporary random leg rating for this race only since it doesn't have an approved rating yet. If the boat ends up rating 30 Random Leg then it most likely would have a rating in the 36-39ish region for bouy. I believe this was also the owners first race.

What is happening in a few days?It would be the 1D35 Turbo.....few days and it will all make senseIs this the 1D35 Turbo EWS is eluding to? The story is featured on the SA home page this AM. Cool project...

But didn't the J111 KONTIKI 5 beat the 1D35 REVOLUTION in Key West (albeit the 111 had a 42 vs the 1D's 36 PHRF)this year?
Rag Bag's 111 is rating 36 here in SF...not sure what a 1D35's PHRF is here...
According to norcal phrf
36 with sym
42 with assy
There were two 1D35s in last weekend Corintian Midwinters, one rated 36 (standard) and one rated 21. Neither one hung with the 111 on elapsed time, and we were sailing no where near our race potential for various reasons. I don't know what mods the 21 rated boat had.
The 21 should be the old Double Trouble. Square top main but with a shorter prod and OD ISP's
-
the boat has been rated at 33/27/18 in Socal without the square top main & 30/24/12 with the square top. Didn't mean to derail the J/111 thread so please continue on

That's the boat I was refering to. Obviously not much 1d35 in it anymore.

Many many years ago, my kid would ask me these dumbass questions: "Dad, who would win a fight between a great white shark and a grizzly bear?"
I could never answer the question to his satisfaction.
So, who would win a fight between a J-111 and a 1D35?
It would be the 1D35 Turbo.....few days and it will all make sense

pretty good "ON-BOARD" youtube footage of hull # 5 surfing in Halifax...about 4 mins.
ya but I had to mute it after about the second "puff on".....I'd be searching for that button if I was on the boat
-
keel bolt backing plates cut away....stainless tube runs to the deck with an internal G10 rod....pretty standard practice these days
-
i thought the point of not putting a real bulb on there was to keep the keel from catching stuff and to avoid the cost of a kelp cutter. and, what is adding a kelp cutter going to do for OD?...
A vertical to near vertical foil is always going to catch kelp regardless of the bulb style. You can restrict it's use during OD events but to race that thing in SD PHRF events without one is not going to help their phrf game much. Might as well not even leave the dock.
-
Whats this?
It's called a kelp cutter....welcome to San Diego

Anyone have a pricing sheet that can be shared? Interested to see what the 111 has in terms of options, upgrades and the costs, etc. I know what the base price is, just looking to price the whole thing with options, etc.
DG
It appears that the cheapest you can get one on the water with little to no options is around $285,000 with a basic sail inventory. Factor in your sales tax and it's over $300,000. This is bare bones minimum from what I have seen.

Fun day but not a big boat or ULDB day for sure. Congrats to the winners.
-
hasn't been the most exciting race pressure wise but it's great to see how this one has unfolded. Lotta talent out there....a little luck....and some hail mary's. The 125's are a weapon. Good luck guys.
-
good luck up there you guys......heading down to the boat soon to throw on some extra lines. Surprisingly enough the boat rides out the big breeze fairly well on the hydrohoist

This reminds me of the discussion we had aboard my dad's Erickson 35 32 years ago (last time I did the SB-KH) when we had to race against a couple of Santa Cruz 27s and Moore 24s in our class for the first time.....both those boats rated about level with the Erickson 35 at that time (PHRF 150). Hopeless (for us) was what it was.
I look forward to racing SB-KH next year in my freak sprit boat. Maybe we can get a bunch of the FTs up for the event next year.
Paul,
Lets do it...I'm down. To really sweeten the deal I could talk to SBYC to see if they could get us a OD start for the Fiesta Cup the weekend prior although I know it may be tough for the out of towners. Did it this year with the Farr 40's and SBYC really throws a great event. Beach party afterwards, live band, free beer.....perfect Santa Barbara weather. It's a OD regatta and this year they hosted the Farr 40's, J105's, and Melges 24's. Great venue.

Shit that sucks........lost a good friend a few years back doing the same thing. You can never be too careful when going up the rig especially on a boat that you are not familiar with. Hope the guy makes it through it.
-
If that's the case...........
New team to the FT10.........I absolutely have no idea but I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say the outboard door? Haven't damaged mine but those operating it have to know what they are doing and be careful when operating it. Also the boat should be parked before using it........

So.....you finally figured out that Samba bailed out. Your slow but you get there
They dropped out 12 hours ago
So you guys bringing the J100 or the Tiger for LBRW?
