  1. Unfortunately the turnout was pretty light, but on the other hand the conversation was good and honest. Most people agreed that there are different issues that have different consequences for different classes and fleets and that maybe it is time to start to consider each fleet or classes needs individually rather than as a whole. One major topic discussed was the dillution of competition across Maine as something that might be unique to this area. While everywhere seems to be suffering from overall down numbers in the sport over a 10 to 20 year time line, something that may be unique to Maine
  2. Please spread the word about the 22nd if you are interested in the discussion.
  3. Jan 22nd at Brian Boru. 5pm. No one has missed anything yet.
  4. Jangles, I was yelling!! I think there are a number of topics to cover but I think the biggest concern is how to get more people on the water. Period. This thing is not going to fix its self. We certainly have a tough economy on our hands and people have seen their discretionary spending drop, food or yacht racing, is not a difficult question for most, though many posting here might be the exception. With this being the case how do we make it more efficient for people to participate at a level they feel comfortable. If people are participating because they want to and don't feel they have
  5. PLEASE NOTE, DUE TO A SCHEDULE CONFLICT BRIAN BORU THE "BRAIN DUMP" SESSION WILL BE THE FOLLOWING WEEK, TUESDAY JANUARY 22ND AT 5PM. PLEAS INVITE EVERYONE YOU FEEL WOULD OFFER PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATION. I WILL BE SENDING OUT A NOTE ON THIS BY EMAIL TO ANOTHER GROUP. I THINK WE ALL OWE IT TO OURSELVES TO LET IT ALL OUT.
  6. There will be no agenda and no one representing any group other than themselves. My hope is that we can begin to explore, objectively, what people really want as sailors to make things more competitive, fun and the like. We can be open to discussion. We are not calling for any immediate changes but rather trying to figure out what people want rather than telling people what they want. As I said before please remove your yacht club or organization hat at the door and enter the discussion as nothing more than an enthusiastic sailor. While we will certainly touch on the past, the goal here is wha
  7. I am ready to move on from the award. It is fairly obvious that the YoY trophy has been rendered obsolete. I have completed the survey every year an while I applaud your efforts to use it as a tool it simply does not invite the type of critical thinking that is needed. I think we should have a non-sanctioned mid winter "brain dump" session. This will create open and honest conversation without the restrictions placed by a governing body. I have plenty of thoughts and would love to share them but no longer find it effective to answer a few questions by ranking my feelings on a scale of 1 to 10
  8. Embarrassed? I hardly think I am the one who should be embarrassed. I just finished explaining how we all should be a bit embarrassed and if anything I should applauded for saying what everyone will say in private. Just because I dont post a lot doesn't give my post any less credence. I have been a reader and a lurker for a while and up until now never thought anything was worth chiming in on, i.e. whether or not you have topless photos of your significant other. I am glad that you think your 1722 posts give you something to stand on but they dont. This is a very important indictment of the sy
  9. To whom it may concern, These are the criteria that people were given to make nominations for the Yachtsman of the Year: 1. Displays an infectious enthusiasm for Boating. 2. Is a model of good sportsmanship and fine seamanship. 3. Upholds the finest traditions of yachting. 4. Is a good ambassador for the sport. I will address these one at a time. 1. Displays an infectious enthusiasm for Boating - to me this would suggest someone who, no matter the conditions is willing to participate no matter what. However, this applies to most of us who race countless hours in the rain and wi
  10. He wanted to get paid! Can you believe that! No way would I ever pay anyone, except Milty ( he excepts Monopoly money) This is the Gulf of Maine- It's corinthian here.... Well you had him at the helm last year... I snapped this when you guys were prepping. That's a wheel... Must be with the artist formerly known as Prince, and the Revolution.
  11. Kitty, were you able to get things confirmed for Rockland with Russell Coutts? I want to be sure we are putting our best foot forward.
  12. Rumor has it that Revo 395 may already be heading to a new home. Anyone have any insight?
