Looks like our Friday night beer can races.
  3. Way back when, I stopped by the "Chicken Coup". There was a long skinny boat being built upside down. I asked a young bearded builder what it was and he said "a trophy machine".

^ To funny. A simple NO would have answered his question.
  5. ^ Back in the days we used to buy Maui Style Pototato Chips in California that were the exact same as California Style Pototato Chips in Maui.

My non J, non sportboat rates 234 here in Nor Cal. Not a multiple of 3. I think most adjustments are done in 3 second multiples. [Pedant maths hat] [Cough] 3x78 = 234 Never mind.

I don't get the deck stepped mast. If its not a trailer sailer whats the point?

That's exactly where I am. I like the 88's cockpit seats - my 92 has a dinghy-style cockpit and my wife hates it. But otherwise it begs the question "Is it enough of a step up?" It's a great-looking boat though. I see a bit of Figaro II in it. I better move my 92 back down Bay so I'm ready to spar with the demo boat when it arrives. We fixed the crane.
  11. Thx for the reply but I don't spend enough time in here to notice who's missing or know why. Worst forum I ever read was the FT10 one when akagp was at his worst.. Hopefully things didn't get that bad here.
  12. Unbelievable This one went in the water today at our marina. Now I know what it is.
  13. I absolutley love this thread. what a cool boat. I am curious as to what Tom Rays qualifications are. What boats has he designed or built? What boat does he own? Does he sail?
  14. 2 of them doing the Pac Cup this year. http://www.pacificcup.org/
  15. I get the impression the are trying to do as much as possible in house. This is a boatbuilding class right?
  16. J108? Am I the only one who hasn't heard of this boat?
  17. Would be fun to see a video of the roll over.
  18. Yes I think 22 %. I used my comp screen to do the rough measurement. I shoud have been more precise and said the rudder shaft exits the top of the rudder @ approx 22 % chord. As I mentioned in my post the rudder has no feel/feedback. Sorry all for the slight hijack.
  19. Ment to add that rudder stock is at approx 22 %
  20. Yep my suspicion exactly. Here's the stock rudder from my Santana 22. I've been telling people the rudder has very little feedback and with a liberal application of grease will spin in eather direction if released. Yes I know all about weather and lee helm. I've actually removed some of the grease to create a little bit of feel. edit thats water draining from the rudder shaft tube after just being hauled.
  21. #4 Invisible Hand, #17 Mad Men...is the new SF Bay boat #39? Stopped by today and its gone.
  22. Looks like a new J111 getting commisioned at Grand Marina, Alameda, Ca. I think that makes 3 in the bay area.
  23. What is happening in a few days? Is this the 1D35 Turbo EWS is eluding to? The story is featured on the SA home page this AM. Cool project... https://picasaweb.go...kgE&feat=email# But didn't the J111 KONTIKI 5 beat the 1D35 REVOLUTION in Key West (albeit the 111 had a 42 vs the 1D's 36 PHRF)this year? Rag Bag's 111 is rating 36 here in SF...not sure what a 1D35's PHRF is here... According to norcal phrf 36 with sym 42 with assy
  24. I see NorCal PHRF has given the SC 37 a rating of 27. That means she gives the J111 (phrf 36) 9 seconds a mile. Should make for some interesting racing on SF Bay.
