    Wipe or just flush?

Given a choice after a long time pot sit maybe a good wipe does aid in personal comfort.

    The Texas experiment

Maybe we can see it another way. It is a Texas admission to real life. Covid is not going away. Already the many of the most vulnerable and valuable in our community have be vaccinated. Herd immunity has started to take hold and soon we will all have access to shots by May 1. Business and schools need to open, youth need to have open hookups, baseball games need crowds, musicians need to tour, and old men need to meet for morning coffee. Death comes to us all - if we are lucky with family and loved ones have gotten their shots, we no longer have to die alone since we can now hold the hands of our loved ones as we succumb to a covid variant in the E.R.

    Vivid + Graphite?

Doesn't though. I was shocked when i heard the total bill. Rolling or spray? Not much difference as many have mentioned here either. I am reminded of watching my friend fill up his high mileage commuter car, a 2011 Kia Soul with high octane gas. He said he thought the car felt sportier with it. The real factor in paint for racing is the crew who uses the boat. Since no two boat crews are the same - the paint type is such a miscue factor. Clearly far, far less important than freshness and fit of the sails and rigging or the skill, awareness, and strength of the crew. At 400 plus a foot, the owner/syndicate could have rolled cheap on sale west marine ablative, paid for 24 hour gym memberships with fitness trainers for the entire crew, provided catered nutritious breakfasts, saved thousands and most importantly would have taken better finishes because of it.

the boat was towed 6 miles, rinsed and dried so it could sit in yard. I can tell you there are always a more than few boats every year that are so fouled they lose steering and clog intakes. The drift with the current and get assistance from passer by. about three or four times a year when I am out in my super dinghy, I am the one who tows folks back to the dock at Jack London square, Fortman and other marinas in Alameda because they neglected to brush the forest or beard away from their bottom and rudder.

And. Do it. it is fun. you do not have to show your face. Have a cute nerd or better a hot chick fondle the helmet with a voice over. This is a business and you are selling to a select crowd who will spend whatever it takes to have one. Send one to me - I'll get it done beautifully. I may even return it.

That is a sweet bike. Where is your next ride. Appears you come out of the keystone state. Lots of options. I would love to do a Canadian maritimes ride.

Those are nice high end pieces. There may be a few hookers needing these helmets in Silicon Valley and Austin TX. Heard masked Cosplay is big during covid.

I do have those. Direct deposit ruined my sly slush fund since we commingled the checking account and she loves being the bean counter. The one thing I refuse to argue about is money - this works to keep the marriage happy.

    Autopilot use during singlehanded racing

50 cent autohelm. fast set up, held the course while racing for me to eat lunch, seek relief and open - finish a beverage.
  12. Maybe I have been under a sailing rock for nearly 40 years but I never used an autopilot in cockpit tacking while doing short tacking or using to tack to apparent wind while racing single handed. I felt that it violated rule 52 and alway hand steered while tacking and under most operations other than when I went forward. What i am realizing it isn't only power winches but a whole slew of tech pieces that are used in competition that making in the difference when i felt it was somehow not corinthian in spirit. I am coming around to realize why I get my ass handed to me on longer sailing days as I believe there are many who are using every single power and computer advantage. Paul Cronin explains how he does it in his video. Many feel it isn't an issue. https://vimeo.com/239719187 What say you?

I do most of my own work too, the airheads nearly all of it. The Guzzi would be a good bike to swap with a bike I have been road touring with in Europe that needs to come home. The other option to consider for me that is similar is this one. I have to be careful cause my wife only allows one bike at the house at a time.

I always thought that bike was pretty sexy. I heard dealerships and stock parts can be a little hit or miss - still a great bike. Can you tell me a little about the servicing aspect. I hold out hope to get one for a fun ride in the Piedmont before the clock runs out.

    Wipe or just flush?

Boat was blown onto the rock wall in Alameda during a windy day last week (02/21). We were sailing in the south bay and heard the call over the radio on channel 16. The boat bottom was quite fouled with a very heavy beard which lead to poor handling over thinner waters and lee shores. The boat prior to this beaching was actually nice. The boat was plugged, pulled off the rocks and brought to Grand Marina and taken out of the water. She has been draining for 5 days, will be cut up soon and insurance collected. Good chance a half effort wipe before leaving port would have saved this boat.

    Vivid + Graphite?

Questions for you. Do you dive your own boat? Do you haul out every couple of months? If yes, then maybe black widow might work for you. Black Widow was a failure on the freshly painted 1D35. Over 15k in a three coat spray job at the Berkeley Marine yard. Orange pealed really soon once it hit the water , brandishing didn't do much to luster or slipperiness and most importantly the slime to barnacle speed was faster than one could imagine. During the wintertime, the boat was not cleaned for 2 months and the growth was unacceptable. Given a choice Micron 66 would have saved 10k including hiring a diver for the period rather than DIY, not made a difference in overall performance in PHRF, would have saved numerous afternoons diving the boat and would easily last 5 years using a professional diver with a careless powered scrubber. Vivid overall is very good but to be able to see to a clean bottom with a mask and snorkel half the year and using a tank the other part of the year is where the value really is. If you factor in a simple one hour haul out every 6 months for a hand wash - you should have a bottom equal to anything that others who throw Black window money to race at a fraction of their cost and use. The marketing crap and internet hype does not match what most sailors want or need. Leave the Black Widow to people who want to believe in mythical power paint in recreational beer can racing.

    Vivid + Graphite?

My vivid white lasted 4 years with boat in the water in San Francisco. I hauled out yesterday and will redo it again with vivid. To me a far better value than black widow (never again) since we dive our own boat. You can see the dirt and wipe it off with a soft carpet remnant. Add a bit more paint around the water line. 3 plus years with high visibility paint is good value to me. The prep time to redo the bottom will be minimal. give the paint time to dry between coats.

    head replacement- suggestions?

Airhead. One less hole. No more messing with clogged pipes and pump out stations. Bag up and drop off at the dumpster at marina.

    SSS 2021 Corinthian Regatta

With you Alan. I was reminded how much focus I lose when sailing by myself. Not taking better note of the breeze on the water, searching for relief or help from the tidals and ultimately not making larger headsail changes cost me at least 45 minutes off my total course time. I should have been working to sail fast rather than sailing for fun and photos.

I too went for Raccoon Straits. I was spun 360 in 8 kts of wind while still making 4 knots just south of the Ayala cove just after recording over 9 knots entering the straits. The boats that were near me at SHS at 4 were no where to be seen at Little Harding including the full keeled Tortuga as they when passed Point Blunt again. The wind died while heading to Blossom rock. My 20 minute lead was gone and Tortuga passed me on Starboard. We ended up neck and neck with me giving room to him to round at BR. We both short tacked up the city front and perhaps his full keel worked to his advantage to beat me by seconds at the finish line once i came to finish under the X mark.

    SSS 2021 Corinthian Regatta

Spent Friday night with friend Shelly hand sewing up the mainsail luff that i ripped in a hoist on Thursday so I could race. Great long day in solo non spin class in the last group to start, spending time in sun, drinking coffee and finding every wind pocket on the bay. Was too lazy to make a headsail change. Went with the blade when I shoulda gone with the 140 and been done a hour sooner.

Hare has pro sailor buns. There is more to this chase - can we can boil it down to why we would sail a boat like this - proof of prosperity, class, dominance, emotional state & ego. Without true data and based on biased conjecture, middle aged competitors secretly prefer IRL french toast girls (boys) to remain for more than a daysail rather waking up solo or unevenly short handed. When your french toast girl pops up on deck tied to the race dock on late Sunday morning, who cares about the regatta pickle dish. You already won. Yeah, I went there. She makes me happy.

    Sun Fast 3300

I really do appreciate the boat for many reasons. The design is fast, the sail plan great, the line layout seem right. But for $300,000 after sail away delivery and taxes could they have made the cockpit a bit more comfortable for the target market of professional men & women in their late 40s to 70s who have the funds and time to sail them?
