Clearly the Appeal Panel did not think much of the evidence.

I hear Mr Jones has resigned from Australian Sailing

Another gain for the sport, not.

It’s officially time to buy a powerboat...

they are going to take out a loan and replace all the illegal hulls with new ones re-using all the hardware / rigs / trailers etc and that cost will be amortised / paid off over the next how ever many years.

But who’ll repay that loan? The M11 owners? The association? Via fees paid by M9 owners and the rest of the fleet?

Who gets rooted up the bum without the courtesy of a reach around?

Ben Ainslie spent much more than that on an unsuccessful AC75 campaign.

No doubt, but does Mercedes ever build a new F1 car with the aim to be “the same as last season?” Or how about Red Bull? “We didn’t win last year, so this year we’re going to try changing nothing. That’ll fix her!”

Did Sir Ben build an AC75 team with the aim of being the same speed as the other teams?

So the association wanted to create a new (costly) mould and then convinced a bunch of people to spend good money building new boats to go the same speed they’re already going.

It’s systemic, bureaucratic bullshit to deny you wanted to go faster and in this case it starts with the association stakeholders (who I’m assuming are boat owning members).

That’s twice this has been claimed but no reference provided.  @Livia is there a link to this study please?  Unless someone has spent the cost of a new Etchells validating the CFD results then it is likely that the conclusion that M11 boats are faster is simplistic at best.

Flip the logic - would you deliberately build a new mould (and subsequent boats) to be slower? In a one design class?

What’s a new Etchell worth? I’m guessing (just guessing) it’s north of $100k. So how do you convince pro (or top flight amateur) sailors to spend that much cash on a new, slower boat?

If you can do that, my friend... I’ll buy that bridge you’re selling.

  5. We’ve just been given a real world example.

The real world Livia is charming, verbose and very good at what he does. A genuine expert in his field. Knowledgeable and well respected.

The Sailing Anarchy Livia rages against the machine and agrees on many points with LB15.

So which Livia penned this post? The mould 9 version or the mould 11 version? “But!” I hear you cry... “are they not the same Livia?”

The Mould 11 ballot pushed hard by the Australian Association has been rejected by its own members.

That should send a message but it won't.

The whole handling of this thing is completely fucked up.

The Australian Association refuses to countenance that the Mould 11 boats are not legal, but all the evidence is started to stack up against that and in any event almost 47% of their own current membership think that they are. (remembering that many Mould 9 owners may not have renewed membership as there is no racing at present  that requires it)

Instead the Australian Association and the Mould 11 owners keep blaming the International Association and saying everyone else boats are illegal as well.

    Take the hint.

And I am really sick of the justification that it is the rigs, the sail, the sailors when the Australian Association own reports say Mould 11 boats are not the same as Mould 9 boats and the CFD analysis shows the boats are faster.

Now we are told there will be a further ballot and new proposal from the Australian Association.

Can someone just suing people so we can get past this and get on with the Class.

Too many people have been lying for too long about why Mould 11 did not simply replicate Mould 9 as would have been the proper thing for a Class Association to do when all your existing boats are from Mould 9.

It was supposed to be a one design class after all.

Instead we have had 10 years of bullshit which has killed the class and made boats next to worthless.

So I should NOT buy the 2000 Pacesetter? Is it an EtchelK or an EtchelM?

well if you travel long distance ,it'll be the recharge time,  who wants to wait 1 hour at a rest stop and have to do that 2 - 3 times a trip..  7 hour trip now becomes a 10 hour trip..

but fossil fuels aren't the answer either...

I took our Tesla M3 on a 500mi road trip. With a 3 year old and a 7 year old in the back a 45 minute stop to let the little demon spawn go apeshit in a playground was a must.

The car just gave me an excuse to stop.

So Glen, is any AS money going to enrich the life of the AS coach that got a head sentence of 13 years yesterday.

    Flowers for his cell maybe.

So this one doesn’t sink without a trace... 13 years is a pretty hefty sentence?

Great stuff, fantastic application of your tax payer dollar. Enriching lives through sport, no less.

Good God, I hope you’re being sarcastic.

A fantastic application of my tax payer dollar would be upgrading our local schools, hospital or the local Morris Dancing studio. Enrich my life that way.

And this may be the first post in this thread that isn’t specifically targeted at Australian Sailing or the AST.

But I have an issue with using tax payer dollars to send guys like Nathan Outteridge to the Olympics so that they can then translate that into America’s Cup rides where they get paid significantly better than a living wage, without ever returning those Australian tax payer dollars as they’re a resident of Japan, Sweden, America or Tuvalu.

Oh. Darn. I guess this post was a hack at the AST machine after all. Although, I don’t really care if it’s Sailing, Javelin, Basketball or Skateboarding. Using tax dollars to send people to the Olympics is a huge waste of money, in my (not very) humble opinion.

But go ahead... tell me how Olympic Skateboarding is building a better quality of life for my family?? At least women’s beach volleyball has ancillary benefits.

100% of HP funding for Enoshima comes from government grants, sponsors and patrons. Nonetheless, we can be proud of them too.

The sponsors and patrons? Or the government?

.We've got a lot of great sailing going on in AUS. Everyone here should be proud of that too.

    Goldcoast 2020 - cancelled.

    Hobart 2020 - cancelled.

Goldcoast 2021 - as good as cancelled.

    Go team!

    You missed the (small) qualifier

*Clubs currently under Covid state restrictions/lockdown. All sites across the country will only proceed if it is safe to do so, pending COVID restrictions across that State or Territory at the time.

Which isn’t going to be any time in the next month for Sydney. So the email is a pointless “hurry up and wait” exercise for someone.

  13. I also got an interesting email from Australian Sailing today telling me which yacht clubs in Sydney I can gather at to watch some Olympic sailing.

Which would be great. If we weren’t in a fucking lockdown. And those clubs weren’t closed.

The blood sucking pro’s will be fighting it all the way. A boat with a spot for one pro only, not something they will support. Unless they can find an owner willing to just fund it, then there are still only two spots.

Plus it’s hard to point the finger elsewhere when there is just you and the owner to chose from.

You’ve got it all backwards - imagine a program where your minimum pro quota is 50% ?

Free hotel rooms and flights for all!

Just don’t ask me who delivers the boat home...

Ah yes these young people to day. Back in the day we would sail through a gale in our taft plastic jackets, eat the homing pigeons and take turns to roger the bow boy in the forepeak after a few tots of rum.

But will the young people today listen to you?

    Noooooooooooooooooooooo Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I thought it was “Roger the Cabin Boy?”

At least, he said his name was Roger....

I recall that someone converted one of the last IMS maxis a decade or so ago into a pilot house motor yacht. I think it was one of the S&S boats, but you could buy this hull for $10k and spend $2 million to get a $500,000 boat?

Matt Allen has partitioned AS to permanently BAN Mark Hipgrave due to him "speaking out" regarding the legal proceedings.

He was especially ticked off by Hugo Van Krestschmar's comments of support on the GoFundMe page.

It will be interested to see how this plays out especially considering money talks.

It’s played.... check the front page.
